Chances Moss will be back next year?

99%, the front office won't let him get away unless he demands ridiculous money, which he won't.

i just hope he really loves new england and winning and will take less money that other teams will pay in order to keep him.

I just dont know why they havent signed him allready. The more TD's he gets. more money he will want. Could have 20 td's! sigh him!!

I'll go 3 in 4.

The 1 in 4 is reduced to only "you never know."

The rest? Moss has said he has enough money already. More is good, but prolly won't be the deciding factor. He's always gotten a bad rap, some might have been warranted and most has been written by bitter journalists for bitter readers, all salivating for a reason.

He's older now. While far from being a pissed-off kid with a few bucks in his pocket, he's still a bit of a pissed-off man with a desire for respect and legacy, I imagine. But...as his mentor in Minn has stated, repeatedly, and his teammates in NE now say, he is driven, intelligent, misunderstood, and...well, they don't understand what all the fuss is about.

Moss had stardom thrust upon him because of talent. There is little to show that he has ever saught stardom. He just is a star. With the good and bad that comes with it.

He's never had a better situation in his life. The big, bad (and some pro-athletes, some publicly, prolly most privately will say cold to blacks) Boston media has been good to him. The fans adore him, even the one-time nay-sayers who thought he was the debil. Except for Manning, there is NO debate about quarterbacks. The Pats are perennial challengers or holders for the NFL championship and appear to be so for the foreseeable future.

Moss is the gifted kid who prefers to sit in the back of the room and just do his work without being bothered with stupid sh.t. The Pats have the A's to hand out to him. If Moss is not back in a Patriots uniform, it will only be because he will be in Colts uniform. This can not be allowed to happen.

Hey all...first post here...

re. Randy, how's this sound to go along w/ our new "Evil Empire" image we now sport (and I happen to love): 666

No way Kraft and BB let Randy go, both from a performance, as well as a business standpoint, and I doubt Randy wants to go anywhere else after tasting this. Balance it out, and Randy stays for a contract that is:

$6 million/year
6 year contract

and wtf...a total of 6 rings for Brady and co. That makes 3 for Randy over those 6 years. Tough, but doable.

Randy is playing nice this year, and cooperating, but my take is that Randy does have an ego that will need some tending eventually. What will check that and bring him into the fold over the long run is prospect of what could be accomplished w/ this team, coach and w/ Brady. Glittery enough for any ego, and besides, the endorsements he and Brady could one day make together would probably dwarf their current paychecks.

666, yeah baby!

Totally awesome, dude! Moss was bad for business when he was signed. The die-hards thought he was the debil, the fair-weathered said "Hey, I've heard of THAT guy!" Of course, in Pats history, the die-hards are a pretty slim breed.

To stop being a total axs: IF Moss signed for 6 for 6: I would stop wishing there was a way that I could write a letter to thank him that he might actually read, I would make every certainty that I would find a way to thank him personally for ever coming here in the first place, nevermind staying.

Id give Moss realistically about a 98% chance of signing. He's always wanted to play with Brady. he's always wanted to play for a winner. he's always wanted to play for titles. he's never wanted to be a leader by more than by example. he respects the other players and the other players respect him. and he's gained everything from football a player could want besides a ring and a legacy. he'll be a Pat for the rest of his career. There's a 2% chance something flukey could happen like Moss retiring after the season. Possible. Just not likely. I think he'll probably sign a 4 yr deal with a base of around $3 or 4 mil a year with bonuses that can get him to around 6 or 7. he understands financial sacrifice is part of the Patriot way, and he's made a mint already. He'd probably be signed already if not for collective bargaining.

This is Randy Moss we are talking about. If he thinks he can get ridiculous money he will try to get it. If the difference is a hundred thousand it probably won't matter, but if the difference is a million-plus he won't pass up that kind of money.

Hes not A-rod aka A-fraud or A-money. He loves the Patriot way and he realizes that the Patriot way, is the only way.

Depends on what price he puts on winning rings, on glory and being beloved by a loyal fan base and on being in the Hall of Fame, all things that will be his if he stays in New England. I think Randy Moss wants all of those things. He will retire a Pat.

The Patriot Way is not the only way. It is just the Patriot Way.

The Colts are not the Patriots, and won a super bowl last year. The Steelers won it two years ago. Throw Moss on either of those two teams, and think how he affects the balance.

That said: does Moss understand what he has with Tom Brady? Yes.

Does Moss insist on top dollar? Nobody has this answer. We are silly to speculate. He seems to want to be happier, not richer. But that's during the season, and not under the influence of his agent.

Does the NE front office pay any amount asked for? History says no. So Moss could find a way to overestimate his value, by NE's calculations. Will he do so? I don't think so. I think the Brady/Moss connection is in everybody's interests, and there will be a way to make it work.

My question is what the percentage of the cap going to the receiving corps is considered "normal" for the new airborne Pats. Will Stallworth, for example, be gone? Welker is smartly cornered to start with.... how about all those guys on a produce-or-leave deal? K Washington is likely gone or else renegotiated south. Stallworth? Watch the second half of the season. Chad Jackson - will he produce anything, or just be considered a bust? What's left when that WR corps is settled down, and who gets what? Or, to phrase it more accurately, who gets cut? (See ya Asante...)

But these are pretty good problems to have :)

$6 million/year
6 year contract

666, yeah baby!

If they offer 6/6, he's gone. I highly doubt he'll work for less than deon branch money.

He took his 3 mil + incentives one year contract mostly because he wanted to get out of oakland and play a year for a real team, and to prove that he's still the best when he's placed in a good situation.

Pats will be the front runners and he'll give them a discount. But he's not going to play for a 50 cent contract - since there's other good teams who will offer him lucrative contracts..If Marvin Harrison's injury + old age cripple's his ability to perform highly, I'd see Indy (other other teams) offering Moss 11+ million.

8-9 will be what it takes to get it done. 8-9 is a respectable amount, yet still millions less than what he gets on the open market.

I just hope terms are agreed to prior to free agency, and the contract is signed in the first minute

Adam Vinatieri has proven you can leave this team, get the money, and get the glory (he's got more super bowl rings than anyone on the Patriots now)...Its not always an either/or. If you want top dollar, then most likely you'll go to a non-elite team (since most team's aren't elite, and all team's are equally likely to offer the best contract at any given position). Adam V got lucky in that that team was the 2nd best franchise of this decade. Other players (Law, Mcginnest, Milloy, etc) have not been so luckly. But if you want only 90% of market value, then you're able to pick the team you want to play for.

Are you serious? Are you really serious?

Straight cash homey.

$10,000 to the average US of A citizen: 1/4 of a year.

$10k to Moss: <$500. <$100. <$10. What you spent on lunch. At Subway. For you and a friend,

Do to the math.

He's cool, man. Thing is, he's never won. He's never been able to be the star student and still be able to sit in the back of the class.

Everything Ive heard about Moss is that he's not really about the money. He signed an 8 year , $75mil contract prior to his 4th year in Minnesota. So, outside of his rookie contract, he hasnt been caught up in a slew of contract demands over the years. But after 3 years in the NFL, it was pretty evident he deserved to be the highest paid player at his position. He left 2 years on that contract when he came to NE which would have paid him 19 more million. So, that would mean in his first 9 years in the league, he earned over $60mil. He'll make about 5mil this year. Im sure he's earned atleast 5mil more during his career in investments and endorsements. He's made over $70million. Not bad for a football player. I just think he knows now more than ever, its not all about the money. Some things money really cant buy. He can take more money and go play elsewhere. Or he can keep playing with Tom Brady. Moss wont take long to make the choice.

If they offer 6/6, he's gone.

I agree.

It is hard to argue that he isn't the best WR in the game right now. I wouldn't be surprised if he can get substantially better than $30M for 3 years on the FA market.

Since:

1. He loves working here
2. We can tie him down with a Franchise tag and
3. We will likely offer him a 6 year deal

I think we can get him for around $7.5M/year.

At this point, even acknowledging the risk that such a deal entails, I would be jumping up and down.

If BB/SP can swing $7M/yr, I won't be surprised. But $6M/yr seems far beyond the realm of possibility.

BTW, no way Indy makes a play for Moss. In fact, most of the teams in the league will assume that they can't keep him happy the way the Patriots have and stay away. But there will be more than enough bidders for Moss to walk at the sight of an insulting offer.

I wanted to respond. But after neglible revision, I relented.

Im also willing to give Moss the benefit in applying the logic that his agent actually works for him, and not the other way around. So many of these agents conrol their clients. I dont think Moss is going to let his agent control this situation. He's more than likely going to tell his agent what he wants, and then instruct him to make it happen. So as far as his agent getting out on the market and talking to all of these other teams and then making demands to the New England Patriots, I really dont think that's how its going to go down.

Yeah, I can def. see your point here. For the sorta tongue-in-cheek joking in my first post in this thread, I actually came to those numbers after thinking about it for a sec, or maybe even two.

Vinatieri isn't a good comparison because he only made like $3 million to go to Indy, and he is tailing down. Bad leg, and his raw performance numbers were dropping, ie, not his "motivational factor" or whatever you'd want to call it. Adam doesn't, and never did, need any motivation. He really needed the cash. Kickers just don't make very much. The numbers between Randy and Adam don't really stack up well as far as trying to compare.

Brady himself is only making like $6 million/$7 million per year, and if there is one person on this team who Randy doesn't stack up to, it's Brady. For me, that's where the $6 million figure came into play. Also, for the first time, Randy is not the leader, and no matter what, he never will be here in New England, as long as Brady is around. I'm sure he likes it that way, as was pointed out in another post.

Randy has the opportunity to turn it around for good re. his behavior, reputation, etc., and make decent but not ridiculous money doing it. The second factor I sorta calculated in, seriously, is the endorsements. Can you honestly imagine an American Express ad during a Super Bowl say, like, 10 years from now w/ Brady tossing an amex card to Randy, or whatever? That is like $1 million each for a days work.

No kidding, the endorsements are where the real money is if...and that is a big if...they are long term winners. Brady already is, Randy isn't. I really do think that is something that sticks in Randy's ego. Not in a bad way, but as something to prove.

Third, I was really, really thinking of what history and posterity would mean to Randy vs. the maybe extra $2 to $3 million he'd make per year somewhere else. That is why I mentioned his ego. I do think his ego is a factor, and given his talent/skillz he has a certain right to think that way. He is one of the best of the best. No kidding, if this team keeps it together w/ players, is lucky enough w/ health/injuries...we could probably win 3 out of the next 6 Super Bowls. Hard? Yeah, def., but it is very feasible.

I think Randy--big ego and all--is starstruck at that type of idea. That is the lure. Beyond that, can you possibly imagine what it is like to go from someone who has worked so hard to be where his is, aka, Brady, then going to a whiny b@$tard like Payton($$$), who feels as much like The Annointed One as Randy does, ie, super high level of natural talent???

For some reason, I think Randy has that innate football "Spidey Sense" that going to a place like Indy wouldn't work. Why? Because he has already gone to other places, ie, Oakland, for just the money. What was his base in Oakland, something like $9 million? Plus incentives? I don't know the specifics on the old contract he had, but I know he hated it. I think that Randy honestly wants a part of the long term Glory. He'll make his money w/ the endorsements if he sticks it out. A 6 year contract from the Pats??? haha...but, the end is all fiddly-diddly anyway, so....w/ all the other thoughts, I still think:

666

 :rocker:  :rocker:

Please, for the love of god and all things sacred, enough with the 6s already. If anything, just make em FIVEs.
