Re: Brad Childress and The Vikings: One Compassionate Organization

Childress is a bum. He locked out Culpepper from their facility then had some nice choice words for him. This is ridiculous.

Re: Brad Childress and The Vikings: One Compassionate Organization

Just so I'm clear, BB and the Pats are evil, disgusting blah blah blah, but this guy and organization are okay? Horrifying.

Re: Brad Childress and The Vikings: One Compassionate Organization

Wow I knew Childress was a horrible playcaller, I didn't lmow he was a horrible person.

He'll be out of a job soon enough. Took him how many weeks to ride Peterson? What a jerk.

You mean like how the Dolphins handled a similar situation involving Culpepper earlier this year?

We, the media, and the men involved get caught up in the NFL, and rightfully so at times, but people need to realize that this is just a game. Some things are more important than playing football on Sundays. I appreciate the quote from Williamson.

You are out of your mind. Culpepper refused to do what the team wanted him to do. He should have been locked out, they decided they did not want him on their team any more. Basically, he was fired, and it appears to have been a very smart move.

Re: Brad Childress and The Vikings: One Compassionate Organization

Childress is probably forced to comment on it as the head coach, but I very much doubt it's his decision. That's the organization's decision.

Re: Brad Childress and The Vikings: One Compassionate Organization

I dont understand what is so bad about this.
He was allowed to not play in the game.
He is paid to play in games. Why would you pay him to not play?

Maybe I am missing something, but I do not understand how an employer who grants an employee permission to leave their job is wrong to not pay them for the work they didn't do.

You don't have funeral pay? Most companies I know give 3-5 days paid off for death of a family member.

No, not like that. Culpepper was allowed into the facilty all off-season and was working hard to get back.

The reason Cameron had him escorted off the field was because he had no plans on keeping Pep and if Pep got injured the Dolphins suddenly became liable. Completely different situations.

Its very different though. There are 16 footballs games a year. He is paid to play in them. Football players do not have vacation, sick days, etc because they work less than half the year.
Im not saying he should have played, thats his decision, but its odd to me that someone who is paid to play football would expect to be paid when they chose not to play in the game, regardless of the reason.
He wasn't available to his team that day. Should he be paid money he didnt earn?

Good, Culpepper is a sleazy piece of dirt, he deserves to be degraded by everyone.

Is this how it usually works though? That if a player misses a game for a personal reason, he's not paid? Does this usually happen? I can't recall other situations like this, but it must happen.

Nah, Culpepper worked hard, the only thing I don't like is the way he acted when he scored against the Fins this year. It was a business decision to let him go and him acting like that was totally childish and unprofessional.

I'm not sure, but it doesnt seem wrong to me.
Really, think about it, he is paid to play. Wouldn't paying him for this game be giving him money he didnt earn?

Childress is certainly a lot smarter than the Miami organization that traded for Fumblepepper.

And the fans that came here to brag about it.

Well, I remember that Dungy missed a game after his son's death. Wouldn't it have been wildly inappropriate to dock him part of his pay because of it?

I guess you make a good point, it just sounds awful to me.

If he came down with the flu, they'd still pay him. Seems small on their part, but maybe there are other factors involved.

Its something called human courtesy and decency, not everything needs a hard business line drawn around it. The $435,000 they docked him is beyond peanuts for an nfl organization, so to go ahead with docking him the money while using the terms "business decision" is extremely tasteless, considering it would've been a miniscule sacrifice.

I love how its ok for organizations to be all about the money and decisions being just business, but when players are all about the money they suddenly become pricks and bad people. The great NFL double standard.
