Just a guess

Mel Mitchell , Eugene Wilson and Billy Yates all go to IR

Brown, Chad Jackson and Eddie Jackson will be active..

you will see Brown's contributions more on defense this yr..

I just think Wilson is in the dog house and this inj , will be used as a way for him to go on IR.. This may not be decided will be in 3 weeks, but this could be the ultimate choice..

why would those 3 go on IR when they didnt miss practice? Mitchell might have but Wilson was back..Yates wasnt on injury report was he? just an inactive to get to 45

we have a bye week..players have more time rest up. Those guys arent going anywhere

why would Brown get activated if he hasnt even practiced YET and why would he play defense? You realize we have
-Samuel
-Hobbs
-Gay
-Harrison
-Wilson
-Meriweather
-Baker
-Sanders

thats a very good group of guys..Eddie Jackson might depending on Mitchell's injury to fill a DB and ST spot(cut Ventrone)

Yates isnt going anywhere...especially with Neal and Koppen missing games earlier in the year. I can't see us having 7 wide receivers active especially when only 4 have been playing in the game...that seems like wasting roster spots to me. I think Rivers gets cut and either Mitchell goes to the IR or Ventrone get cut in order to activate Eddie Jackson and Chad or Troy. I could also see Baker getting cut as it always seems like he is on the field when something bad happens on defense. On the other hand there must be a reason why he is out there over Merriweather and Andrews....

Rivers + Ventrone gone

Chad Jackson in

maybe even a DL gone..like Kareem Brown or LeKevin Smith(more likely Brown because he doesnt play both DL spots)

Baker wont get cut. hes ahead of Meriweather at safety it seems and is a good ST player.

I'm sticking with my prediction in yesterday's PUP thread...

"Gotta activate Troy Brown and practise him this week (tomorrow). Start the 21 day clock.

Meanwhile the jacksons must be placed on the 53, placed on IR or cut.
My bets: the WR Jackson replaces Washington and the CB Jackson replaces Ventrone whom BB activated to get a game check and be willing to re-sign onto the PS."

NFW we cut a TE

What makes you think Wilson is in the dog house? Just because he may have lost his starting job to Sanders. I haven't read anywhere that the Pats had him in the dog house. In fact, they used him a lot in the big nickel vs. the Cowboys.

His injury could end him up on the IR, but based on depth at the safety position I wouldn't be IRing him so quickly. Meriweather is a pretty big disapointment so far with Rashad Baker getting far more playing time than Meriweather. In fact, did Meriweather even see the field on Sunday?

yeah Meriweather was in on a few plays in middle of the game

Wilson rotates at SAfety..its a 3 man rotation. Meriweather gets snaps at CB in pregame, etc

Apparently, Wilson and Meriweather moved down on the depth chart. What does that have to do with being in the doghouse.

Yates isn't going anywhere, certainly not the IR after missing no recent practices. Yates has started for us. There is no reason to cut depth at OL.

DECISION ONE - Mitchell
He's been hurt. He is certainly an option for the IR.

DECISION TWO - Ventrone or Eddie Jackson
Presumably this is an easy decision, but Eddie Jackson could take Mitchell's roster spot.

DECISION THREE - Who does Chad Jackson replace?
I will be shocked if he isn't activated. He's healthy and ready to play. Unless the team enjoys grievances and pi$$ing off the league(I suspect that they do), Chad Jackson isn't going on IR.
Options include Gaffney, Washington, Ventrone, Mitchell and Alexander.

In the end, my guess is that both Jackson's will be activated in the next couple of days, and two really injured players will be put on the IR. My guesses are Mitchell and Alexander.

Troy Brown should also come to practice, but a decision is not needed for three weeks.

Ventrone could also go (in addition to Mitchell and Alexander), if we sign a free agent. We need a backup, emergency running back, no that Morris is officially gone.

That's what I had been thinking but Reiss (mailbag) speculates that Mitchell will be back by the Bills game. He also speculates that Eddie Jackson isn't healthy enough yet to contribute. That makes things a little more complicated.

Chad Jackson takes Rivers spot - I think that's the no brainer.

From there, I guess you reserve 1 spot for one of the following: Mitchell, Eddie Jackson or Ventrone.

That leaves Troy and they have three more weeks to figure that one out.

This is something that kind of annoys me. If you're going to talk like you know what's going on with their snaps, then at least know if the guy played. I watched the game, Meriweather was in there, and it was well before the last moments of the game. He didn't show up on the stat sheet though.

Anyways, if you want to know if someone played (because for some reason you didn't notice them), then go read the Patriots gamebooks. It's kind of like the people who asked if AD played, when he had two tackles, lol!

SPOT ONE
So if Watson or Kyle Brady were hurt, just who would have suit up at TE the next week. Two TE's is simple too thin. Rivers has a job, which includes being a healthy scratch in every game. barring injuries

SPOT TWO
I agree that the choice is among Jackson, Ventone and Mitchell. I'm fine with Mitchell and Jackson on IR. It is great news for the ST's if Mitchell is almost ready to come back.

Reiss just updated his blog with news that Rivers was released: http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/reiss_pieces/2007/11/rivers_released.html

I'm as surprised as anybody that we're down to 2 TE, but if you think about how the offense has changed and how we're about as likely to go to 4WR as 2TE at this point, it makes a little more sense. Here's hoping Rivers finds his way back onto the PS and will be ready if Watson or K. Brady gets hurt.

This decision makes little sense to me. I agree that 4 WR is more likely than 2 TE, but we do run both. We have at least one backup WR (perhaps soon to be two). We have no backup TE's.

I also don't like what this implies for the running game. We NEED two tight ends in running situations. TE's also help the OT's protect Brady. The THIRD active tight end is a lineman or Vrabel. I don't like not having a Plan B if there is an injury.

I don't think Rivers has any Practice Squad eligibility left.

Not as surprised as I. You called it and I missed it.
Upon reflection BB obviously feels that Rivers is a street JAG and will be available on the shadow roster (not PS) if needed in a TE disaster.

If wide receiver Chad Jackson is healthy, I expect him to be activated.

This is a nice problem to have, IMO. In the past, we would have a depleted secondary by now or a banged up OL and DL. Now we are debating about what we are going to do to open roster spots for HEALTHY players coming off the PUP list. It's a very nice problem to have for a change. :)
