Re: Good Curran Column

Absolutely terrific column.

I swore I never wanted to read anything about signals being videoed ever again, but Curran does as good a job talking about it as it's possible to do and he is spot-on about the officiating of the Colts game.

Thanks for the link and thanks, TC.

Re: Good Tom Curran column [merged]

Yep. He's right.

However, he makes a couple of boo-boos. It's NOT know that the Pats' coach-to-QB communications were "jammed", and even if CBS played games with the broadcast background noise, that added noise wouldn't have wound up being piped into the stadium and affecting the game (except to the small extent that folks in the stadium itself were listening to the CBS broadcast).

Officiating questions abound following Colts-Pats game
By Tom Curran
NBCSports.com Updated: Nov06, 2007, 01:18 PM EST

The NFL needs to realize it’s on a slippery slope.

The three hot button topics emerging from the biggest regular season game ever played have been…

1) The one-sidedness of the officiating
2) Allegations of pumped-in crowd noise
3) Jammed radio frequencies

Suddenly, there’s an air of doubt among casual and even more rabid fans about the legitimacy of the product. And there’s rampant skepticism that everything is always on the up-and-up.

It all has its roots in the Patriots Week 1 sin at the Meadowlands where they got busted for using a video camera on the sidelines against the Jets.

Re: Good Tom Curran column [merged]

Thanks for the link. Very well written. Finally a rare nice column in the mainstream media that was balanced and artfully summed up what the 'spying' in cameragate reallly equated to.

Re: Tom Curran says Pats/Colts game was Suspect

1) The one-sidedness of the officiating, 150 yards in penalties vs. 30, rookie refs.
2) Allegations of pumped-in crowd noise
3) Jammed radio frequencies (allowing for the Colts to possibly steal Pats signals during the game)
---

All 3 are obvious and legitimate issues, the mass media herd cannot ignore these without coming off as completely biased hypocrites.

Also, how about intentionally putting in a rookie ref crew, you're telling me they couldn't find Ed Hoculi to ref this highly anticipated game?

That the Pats came back 20-10 to win 24-20 with everything against them shows just how tough they are.

Reading is truly a lost art.

My mistake, I didn't see it on the front page and assumed it was new. I guess I can't read though which is why I posted an article

Except that they didn't intentinally put in a rookie crew.

What crews ref what games for the regular season is done by computer before the season begins. The crews are made up, and then a computer makes a schedule within a number of parameters so the the same crew doesn't have the same teams too often.

Sorry, but this is like the complaints that the NFL deliberately gave the Pats (or the Colts) and easy (or difficult) schedule.

'Tain't so.

Maybe, but it's like that Bill Simmons column about the NBA where David Stern always puts in a rookie crew in a heated playoff series to help the home team.

You folks are too much.

Is whining the norm in Boston?

I watched most of the game and I felt the Patriots got way too much calls. It seems everything the Colts did was a flag or penalty.

please don't give this troll the satisfaction of responding to him

Must be a JETS fan weighing in, no wonder that franchise is a perrenial shambles.

Re: Tom Curran says Pats/Colts game was Suspect

You're delusional. The Pats have at least 3 legitimate gripes in that game, all pass interference calls.

4 penalties for 25 yards.
Please Manginuthugger, give me 1 Colt's penalty that was suspect?

Re: Tom Curran says Pats/Colts game was Suspect

Great stuff from Curran, as usual.

I loved the line about the Pats getting caught for "aggravated jaywalking".
