Buckner continues to get blamed

Would you ask me why the Red Sox Nation still harbor bitterness towards Bill Buckner? Your team won two championships in the last four years, but the anger towards Buckner continues. Why? What did Buckner did to you? So Buckner could not catch the ball. Have any of you realize the guy was playing with pain back then? Let's see you guys do that.

Buckner was not the reason why your team lost to the Mets in the 86 World Series. It was Mike Stanley and Calvin Schilardi who screwed up not Buckner.

It's amazing how Stanley and Schilardi gets lack of blame, but it's all Buckner's fault. I don't blame him for never stepping foot in New England. I don't blame him for even attending a Sox reunion. It's amazing that he got booed when the Sox mentioned him last year to commerate a 10-year reunion.

Why don't you guys let it go and try to treat Buckner like a human being?

This is another black eye for one of the worst behaved fanbases in America.

I was not at the game in Week 1.

I am not a Jets fan.

Jets fans were cheering because they wanted to see Kellen Clemens. It was not a diss at Pennington. They did not cheer for him to get hurt. Jets fans respect Pennington's body of work to pull a stunt like that. This was a bad misintepretation from the media.

Only in Boston does athletes get vilified more often than not. It's just a game. You guys over there call yourself a great sports town, but in my mind, you folks are beyond psychotic to go treat someone like garbage never mind it's been 21 years now and you guys can't forgive Buckner. You guys still hate him. This quote by you says it all. Instead of insulting my intelligence about how it's unfortunate and then come up with this stuff about how it's just pro sports say awful lost about Boston sports fans. It wasn't Buckner's fault for the last time. The guy was playing with bad knees. What part of it don't you understand? I am still wondering why Bob Stanley and Calvin Schilardi has not been called out.

Like I said, New York sports fans don't go on long harbor hatred, which is why I am proud to be a New Yorker.

Its unfortunate 'cause I agree Buckner's error has taken more blame than it deserves and puts an awful spin on an honorable and long career ; but he had an equal chance at being remembered the same way Bucky Dent is remembered in NY and the way Dave Roberts will always be remembered here in Boston. Then how come Buckner has yet to arrive at Fenway Park for a reunion with the 86 team? How come Buckner has taken shots at Sox fans when he had the opportunity? How come he got death threats and how come his kids got harassed at school so often back then?

He has been forgiven for a long time and has been invited back to Fenway many times. The fans were angry after the incident but it was the media that kept this issue alive. He would be welcomed back with open arms by most of the fans in Boston. GFY
