Dungy seems like the kind of guy who holds on too long.

Ya know the type?

You just want to move along, and they just keep holding your hand, telling you things that your really don't want to hear.

How is this not a "proper handshake?"

Since there is no limit to the Commissioner's burning desire to railroad the Patriots at any, and I mean any, cost, it begs the question: Could he suspend Belichick for not giving full eye contact and the obligatory 2 second small talk/handshake to Tony Dungy after Sunday's game?

Would it shock me? No.

They've changed rules and interpretations on the field, why not go for post-game behavior, too.

No, he wouldn't.

If Dungy feels jilted, he could get Polian to bully the competition committee to make a rule change requiring kisses and hugs between coaches after every game.

I really wish somebody would put a youtube clip together of a large sample size of postgame coach handshakes. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that the vast majority of them could be characterized as being pretty similar to the Belichick handshakes that are apparently so disrespectful.

Seriously can anybody provide any kind of baseline for what an appropriate handshake at midfield is? I'd actually really like to know.

I know guys like Herm and Dungy probably have some pretty extended embraces because they are friends. I'm sure there's a few similar examples. But I don't think Shanahan ever really goes out of his way to hug it out with any of the Raiders coaches does he? I mean why isn't that a big deal?

Anyone watch the Monday Night Football Pre-Game show last night? They had Parcells and Ditka on there and both basically said that the whole hand shaking thing has been blown way out of proportion. They both said that in their coaching days most of the time they would just nod across the field at the other coach and occasionally shake hands. This whole thing is rediculous!

That would take the p!ss. No way that would happen. You dont even have to shake hands, it's just Sportsmanship.

I've been following football since '92 and had never once given thought to or had the handshake brought to my attention until last year vs. NYJ. It was a non-issue.

All of a sudden the freaking coach handshake is a sacred ritual and BB is a blasphemer.

Of course Goodell wouldn't suspend him. If he thought it was an issue he'd send a memo or give the Patriots/BB a phone call.

What is the big deal here? BB shook the man's hand and even said a word or two to him. I saw that on my TV. What else do they want? Give me a break.

What a great idea for a new thread.

Actually, if you look at the photo archive at the Patriots website, you will see a photo of the two coaches engaged in a reasonably warm postgame handshake (presuming that you can believe the caption).

Seriously, we are talking about handshakes? Handshakes!?

Yes this whole handshake thing is ridiculous. Who cares? That is just the way BB is. I bet he kisses his wife with the same cold demeanor. That is just who he is. He is a stone-hearted SOB...that wins games. That is all that matters.
