Amusing snippet on Boomer and Carton on WFAN this morning. Carton expressed the belief that November 6th marks the day that starts the clock on the end of Mangini's reign as manager. He cited the fact that Mangini has ordered full practice for today on the Jets bye week, and believes that this will remove any last vestige of loyalty within the locker room. Everyone takes Tuesday off during the playing week, and expects 4 to 5 days off at the bye. Boomer pointed out that 7 days off did little for the Ravens last night.

What started as a whisper with Vilma is becoming a rumbling in the local media, although I still believe Mangini has a Get-Out-of-Jail card for last season's overachievement.

I have to admit that Mangini has done a lousy job.

I think he wins through gimmicks such as motivational stuff and video where he can expose a team's flaw. Give me a good gameday coach who will focus on using Xs and Os and focusing on the player's strength and weakness not stuff like that.

The fact that he and his staff have failed to use Thomas Jones is an indictment of the bad job that he has done.

i think even the pats are practicing today and taking 5-6 days off. Doesnt seem out of the normal .

The problem is that Tannenbaum is a close friend to Mangini. It looks like he and Mangini staged a coup to oust Terry Bradway and put Tangini in place. Will Tannenbaum pull the trigger on his friend?

The only way I see Mangini fired is if Woody Johnson steps in and forces Tannebaum to fire Mangini. My guess is the likely scenario is that Mangini fires his coaching staff in the offseason (imagine Mangini throwing someone under the bus to save his own ass) and gets another year by claiming there wasn't enough aggressive play calling by his coordinators.

Steeler fans still think their team is among the elite despite losses to Denver and Arizona. I'd like to see them brought down a peg.

The Jets have the worst halftime adjustments in the league. That goes directly to coaching. Granted, I am betting that Mangini throws his coordinators under the bus on that one.

I think he is a factor in the fact that all the players see what is wrong with Mangini. He is not putting his players in a position to win. He has 4-3 personnel and trying to play the 3-4. Guys like Vilma went from rising stars to bust because of the scheme. If players feel that Mangini and his staff are hurting their career without any benefits with winning, guys like Vilma are very much a factor. Just like Pete Kendall is a factor eventhough he is no longer with the team.

"More competitve than an average 1-8 team". You know, I hear this kind of talk every year. Almost every team with a terrible won/lost record is "better" than other teams with a terrible won/lost record.

In other words, even the bottom dwellers are above average.

It's ludicruous.

Mangini isn't doing much of anything to change to a 3-4, either. In two years the only player he's added who looks like he'll stick for their front 7 is David Harris. Aside from that he's playing Robertson, Ellis and Vilma out of position and he's brought in Kenyon Coleman who doesn't make any sense on that team either. In other words, after 2 years David Harris is the only member of that front 7 who should be playing a 3-4.
