“I think we definitely showed the country that they’re beatable. Compared to what they were winning games by, 52-7 and all that (expletive). At least we showed there is a formula to beat them. Now we’ve got to figure out how to finish them off.”

The first thing I thought to myself was, add 5 minutes to the game, and the Pats are up by 11. With the way Manning looked, add 15 more and we're up by 18.

I got news Dwight...we showed the world how to beat YOUR D. I.E...tire your small undersized defensive asses out because you have NO DEPTH in the front seven.

Also, your QB still shuts down under pressue.

honestly he didnt say anything bad. but not all teams have the speed and personnel the colts have to execute the same plan. i think adding 5 or 10 mins is hypothetical . Lots of ifs and buts couldve swung the game either way. The wayne dropped catch for e.g.

Bottomline pats made adjustments and made plays to win. I came away with more respect for the colts defense than before the game.

I agree. It took the Pats three quarter to dial in the adjustments, but once it happened, game over. I expect that if there is a rematch, it will get ugly.

Freeney as usual proves he is a moron by opening his mouth.

He forgot to add:
Get the refs to call 146 yards in penalties against our 25.

Freeney said it. You have to finish the patriots or be pissed off that they came can and beat you. I want to see the COLTS again. I have feeling that when it happens the game won't be as close as it was this time around.

No not bad. Ignorant.

I didn't take it that way either. He said what any leader of a defense would say. Their gameplan was fantastic. Our coaches made the adjustments in the 2nd half and their defense ran out of gas.

FYI to Freeney. Your team won't be getting those lame calls and next time our Coach to QB communication will work.

I just posted in another thread. What I stated was that the Patriots dominated the Colts in the 4th Razor. Finish them off, yea right. You just got blown out in your own stadium when the game was on the line and your thinking your going to "finish them off" in January.

.
honestly i was surprised that dungy could gameplan like that. A team which rarely blitzes or does anything different every week actually threw a changeup on us.

The formula is to catch Brady on an off day, have the D play their worst 3 quarters YTD (yet still settle for FG on your first 2 series down the field), play with Indy Receiver Rules in full effect and have the Pats commit a team-record in penalties. Throw in a new Indy Secondary Rule for good measure. Sounds like a reliable winning strategy to me!

Despite a good game plan well executed I still dont see the Colts D as being anything other than good and playing above themselves. They are not elite or dominant. Freeney can say what he wants, I am sure it will be noted for the bulletin board material, but not many teams will be able to emulate what the Colts did in the 1st half. That is not because they dont have the players or the skills - they will not have the additional advantages that the Colts had on Sunday. The offense game is all about rhythm and they successfully disrupted the Pats O for most of the first half (Moss TD drive excepted). However there were many things that contributed to the prevention of the Pats rhythm on offense including:

Gameplan
Colts D execution
Refs penalty calls (bogus and earned)
Headset non-communication
Crowd noise
Homefield advantage.

Its hard to make adjustments when you dont have the wireless communication and have to rely on hand signals from the sidelines (not that they could be intercepted of course (sarcasm)).

There was a visible drop off in the effectiveness of the Colts D in the second half, but it was their O that lost the game for them. Strange how no-one mentions how Peyton's rhythm was upset for the whole game. He had two or three really exceptional throws, but they were never in the same series and his one passing TD came from a dump to Addai that the RB brilliantly converted into a score.

I agree. They are just soo fast. And they are great fighters too! Relentless is not a word that should be thrown around lightly, but the colts d is relentless. That is a great bunch of players.

I for one think that the pats learned a lot about the colts. He may not have said anything wrong, but he does not seem to be able to flip the coin around and look at the other side if you know what I mean.

One could also read into that finishing them off comment as meaning, "when the offense makes some plays" and this might not be Mr. Freeny's expertise.

Is he throwing the O under the bus?

Because if the Offense got just a few first downs there, it could a been all she wrote.

That would be finishing someone off.

I see nothing wrong with what he said. They did outplay the Pats for much of the game -- the Pats looked like they were laboring for what they got and Indy was making it look easier. When the time came, Pats came up big and Indy could not finish them off.

Colts can say that they hung close enough that it could have gone either way.

Cute exchange on ESPN 890 last night:

Halloran (?): [Some national media idiot] said after the game that there's hope for the rest of the AFC.

Borges: Only if the rest of the AFC are Colts fans.

(Borges can give some good lines when not under his irrational anti-BB spell.)

Imagine Ty Warren or Vince Wilfork making statements like this after a loss at home to their biggest rival, the Colts? Freeney's statements illustrate the difference between these organizations and their ability to hold themselves accountable...unbelievably classless.

He forgot to add:
Get the refs to call 146 yards in penalties against our 25.

BINGO!!

This game would have been over a lot earlier if not for the ridiculous calls.

The Colts defense did play a nice game, but even with that pretty good effort on defense, it took a bunch of BS calls from the refs to end up being a nail biter.

Now, who's to say the Colts wouldn't have driven the ball without those BS PI calls, but I sure know it was a lot easier. I now the BS call on Moss, and the none calls in their defenses favor made it a lot easier for them to stop NE's offense.

I've been thinking about this, and maybe we should look at the close margin of victory (ref aided) as a good thing. We all know the Patriots got shafted, which likely caused a closer score than what should have been. This makes the Colts think "We almost had them", without their realizing they'll likely need the refs help again if they plan on another tight game with NE, especially in Foxboro. Maybe they decide that defensive scheme was fine, and they deploy a very simular scheme in the future :D

My reason for starting the thread was not because he said anything overwhelmingly slanderous.

It was just STUPID. The Colts played well.

But here's the problem. He makes it sound like all they need to do is make a small tweak or 2 and the game is won.

4th quarter, his defense could not stop our O. Especialy against the deep ball which is supposedly their defensive forte'.

On Offense, their running game died and Manning was confused.

Manning STILL had Wayne, Clark, Addai and Keith out of the backfield. Utecht is not horrible. Moorehead is a seviceable receiver. They did little.

Brady was throwing to MUCH MUCH less last year.

In the LAST part of the game........you lost. When it counts.....and the supposed formula you have to beat us was either failing or you decided not use it.

What's the formula? Pay off the refs?

Gimme a break here.

We GAVE that game away in the 1st quarter due to refs, lack of QB communication etc. and you guys FAILED in grabbing it.

Why? Because we're too ******* good.
