I believe if things continue as they have been for most of this season I think there is just a 2 man race for comeback player of the year.

Brett Favre and Randy Moss are IMO the ONLY two you can think of that qualify for this honor.

Comeback player includes a guy who has virtually been a non factor in a few past previous years but has now regained his vigor and playing like his best days again.

I am leaning towards Favre - Even if you don't like the guy you got to admit he has been a pleasant surprise this year,I think he is a good guy, soft spoken for the most part and a family man - At the age of 38 he is playing better than 90% of the leagues QBs and without him the Packers are at about 3-5 right now - for much of his career he has shown class and dignity,a devotion to his team and family and a guy that does not usually mouth off and definately does not get in legal trouble that at least anyone knows about.

On the other hand, Randy Moss was a virtual nobody in Oakland after a legendary beginning of his career in Minneapolis,Randy has found a home here in New England and with the best quarterback he has ever had the priviledge of getting passes from in Brady he has resurrected his career at 31 years of age and is a major reason why New England is 9-0 - Without Moss I think the team is still very solid but 8-1 or even 7-2 might have been the story without some of his miraculous catches , also his presence alone on the field helps open up gaps in the secondary for the other fine receivers the Patriots have.

So take off those homer glasses and be absolutely unbiased - if you had a pick of these two guys who is more worthy of comeback player nominee thus far - or maybe someone else you have in mind like Roethlisberger or ????? - explain that as well if you wish -

Remember UNBIASED opinion or don't answer at all - Thanks

I'd say Favre

Heres why.... the Pats can win without a Randy Moss, sure hes had a huge impact, but you can't say the Pats would be a losing team if they didn't have Moss.

Favre on the other hand, along with his WR's, is main factor as to why the Packers are winning, so that makes his comeback a much bigger impact.

Moss probably should win it, considering the complete 180 he's undergone this year. Favre will win though, and he's definitely a deserving candidate in his own right. Won't agree with that decision, but I won't have much of a problem with it either.

Although I love Moss as much as any hetero man could, I don't think coming back from "I don't feel like playing" counts.

Favre sucked last year, but at least he was trying.

Your post highlights a larger point, imo: why the hell do they even give out this award? I suppose it makes a bit of sense to reward guys who come back from injuries, but in the case of a Favre or Moss, the award is pretty much contingent on having sucked the year before. Who would want that distinction?

I am not really sure exactly how they rank a comeback player but IMO its a guy who has more than quadrupled his productivity from a few previous years - If thats the case then Randy qualifies, even if he took plays off - that does not really show in paper stats so I don't know if words expressed to the media counts as well.

Both Favre and Moss are incredible athletes and Favre is a 1st ballot HOFer - Moss needs a few more years like this and he is in for sure.

Maybe its to instill confidence should that player continue to play the following year or two or maybe to Showcase his earlier talent that was lost among many during the players lean years, nevertheless an award is an award for acheiving greatness in a season and should still be considered an honor per say.

Sure, that's a good enough explanation for me. I'd think the possibility of a multi-million dollar contract would be a greater incentive to continue playing at a high level, but if an award's what it takes, then that works.

Also responding to Pats64, I agree the criteria of having sucked the year before takes a little luster off, but a lot of people thought Favre was washed up and battling injuries or father time are both noble quests in my mind.

Moss might win the MVP (if Brady didn't exist) but I have a problem with giving an award on a comeback, when a lot of the original suckitude was self centered pouting.

Just my 2 cents.

As far as I can tell the only one who should even be considered is Ben on Pittsburgh. Favre and Moss were both 100% healthy last year, and anyone else that was injured last year really isn't playing that well this year (or injured again).

I think the only reason to give this to a guy is for making it back from injury. (Like Bruschi-- did he get it? He should have.)

Staying with that theme, then I'd say Priest Holmes pretty much regardless of production.

As for Favre and Moss-- I'm soooo tired of hearing about Brett Favre. I don't think he's coming back from anything, really. His team is a year older and he's throwing enough touchdowns to make up for his INTs again.

How about we give it to Brady. He's bouncing back nicely from that shoulder injury that kept him on the injury report all last season.

If Brady was having Favre's year we would be disappointed. Moss is having a season that could very well be the best ever at his position. Green Bay might be having a good year but so did the Jets last year and for the same reason. Favre is an egomaniac who loves to hear his own droning monotone voice. And you misguided people are feeding his ego and he will never retire. Please,I frickin beg you PLEASE stop all the Favre love, let him go away.

p.s. Listen I admit I hate Lord Favre but the truth is if you keep stoking his desire to play he will never retire and get that lip transplant he so desperately needs, I mean come on are you not saddened to see this man at his hourly press conferences speaking through what appears to be a horizontal slit in his face?

If you want to pick a guy 'ONLY on the Patriots' for Comeback player of the year look no further than Junior Seau - He is having a better year than any stats show,Father time is knocking but Jr. ain't answering the door - Bruschi on the other hand looks older and slower than Seau but I still love Tedy.

Yeah I didn't mean this year with Tedy. I was wondering if he won it after coming back from the stroke. But wasn't that last year? And didn't Pennington win that?

But what about Brady's shoulder injury!? He's got so many touchdowns! LOL Sorry I'll stop with that.

I don't think the Packer fans care if Farve could not even speak - What he has done for his team on the field at 7-1 is about all the talking that he needs to do.
Except for Brady and Manning, what other QB in the league can win 2 in a row at the toughest stadiums in the league in back to back games than Brett Favre - No matter how below average teams they are, beating AFC teams Kansas City and Denver back to back on the road is about as impressive as it gets, especially since the Packers don't play them all that often.

Junior's amazing, no doubt.

It is a funky kind of award. Sometimes inspiring, sometimes it's a crock.

Yeah,Didn't Curtis Martin win it when he was with the Jets in 2002?

I think that was the year I was not happy with the selection,I can't remember who it was but they deserved it more than #28

I said Stop it!

I dont get it when you guys are like .."If moss keeps this up, he is definately a HOF for sure"

are you guys kidding? is this some sort of sick joke? Moss was a HOF like 4 years ago..by the end of the 2005 campaign..Moss had better stats then about 95% of the Recievers in the HOF, get real guys..
