After the deep pass to Stallworth on the last TD drive, did anyone notice when the camera cut to BB and McDaniels.
It looked to me like BB was kinda plssed. Ithought at the time, he wasn't happy with the playcalling of going deep, which was going to leave time on the clock after we scored.
Anyone else notice that?
If its true, i guess that means BB was pretty damn confident his offense was going to score a TD.

I think you're reading too much into this.

no i didn't see that.

I know I thought we scored a bit too quickly.

But honestly, at that point, I didn't really care....as long as we scored.

I watched the last seven minutes of the game (all I have on my TIVO). He didn't look any more POed than he would at any given moment in the game.

I did see it but I wouldn't read too much into it. He used to do it with Mangini too.

I was looking at the clock thinking, ok 10 yards at a time, grind it out, kill some clock and score. Then Brady winds it up and I'm thinking or thats ok too.

Did you see the exchange between him and McDaniel?
I have to go back and look at it, but BB looked like he had a 'why don't you f-ing listen to me' demeanor.

I actually like that we scored quickly and gave the d the opportunity to stop Manning and seal the win.
We won more because of defense than offense yesterday, so it was fitting.

I'm thinking they made the decision to score as fast as possible in case of a quick Colts TD (that would put Indy back ahead) so there would be enough time left on the clock for one more drive.

I saw that too. When I replayed it (4-5 times, :~ yeah, I know) what struck me was that McDaniels looked to be giving as well as he got. The kid wasn't backing down to the ole man at all.

I'll go back and look more closely, Andy. I admit with an 11 month old it's hard to fully pay attention even with the TIVO.:)

On the Big Show today, BB was asked about scoring quickly and he said, "our goal was to get into the end zone."

Context:

The worst play call of the game was when the Pats had the ball around the Indy 40 with 1:50 or so left in the first half and a 7-6 lead. I remember thinking "Take as much time off the clock and get at least a FG out of this - - we get the ball at the beginning of the second half".

Instead of managing the clock and controlling the ballgame, Brady immediately throws a hail mary to a well covered Stallworth - -INT for Bethea. Indy subsequently gets a TD to make it 13-7 Indy at the half. That was a killer bad decision at the time......and HORRIBLE clock management.

The long pass with a bit over 3:00 to go in the game (also to Stallworth, btw) may have been perceived by BB in a like manner, but who knows? I will say that looking at that play again (and from the birds eye view CBS second vantage point) it was clear that this was an extremely dangerous pass. Brady did a beautiful job of lofting that one over the CB and in front of the safety - - plopping it down right between the two of them and into the arms of Stallworth. If not done absolutely perfectly it would have been ripe for an important drive killing INT.

Brady made a similar throw on a similar pattern with David Givens in a game in Foxboro against the Buccanneers two years ago. I remember Boomer Esiason at the time marveling at how difficult that throw was and how Brady may be one of the two or three humans on earth who could do it. Of course, THAT throw occurred inthe first quarter of that game and not at a critical time like the one last night.

Maybe BB was pissed that it took McDaniels 3 and a half quarters to figure out that going to a hurry up offense would alleviate the pressure of the edge rushers. Indy hounded Brady with speed off the egdes from Freeney and Mathis, but if they don't have as much time to recover between plays(and Indy doesn't have any comparable backups) then you make them much less effective.

When I first saw it, I assumed it had something to do with the QB/coach communications. Both BB and McDaniels look pissed, so maybe they were frustrated at not being able to reach Brady over the radio.
I can't see BB being upset at a well-executed pass play that put them in position to score. :)

Yes…I noticed it and I think you’re right on the money. The deep pass was thrown with about 3:45 left on the clock. I think the plan was to chew up some time with some shorter routes or even runs. They certainly didn’t want to score as early as they did. My guess is the call was missed due to the QB/coach communication problems they had all day in the RCA dome.

How would you know what pissed him off, if indeed he was pissed off? You just guessed.

I would like to think we eventually abandoned our gameplan and decided to say, "F it, let's air it out like we've been doing all year," and then, from there, proceeded to score at will as we have during the season. Not sure it's as simple as that, but I hope so.

Exactly. Trying to fine-tune the amount of time left is slightly less important than getting the TD in the first place. :)
