Can we petition to get Ed ' the guns ' Hoculli's crew for every game? BB always says how he respects him and knows it will be a fair game when he's there!

I'll second that, Ed Hochuli (sp?) is a badass ref if there ever was one.

I do like it when Hochuli is officiating the game, and on "Coffee with the Coach," BB said he thought Hochuli was great. He is especially good at communicating penalties rulings and other such situations to the coaches, and BB said he thought he kept a good handle on the game, not allowing it too get too chippy.

I love Mike Carey, he does a wonderfuly job at explaining the penalties and reviews plus his crew calls a good game. So I go with Carey then Hochuli in 2nd.

Mike Carey is my favorite referee, but I like Ed Hochuli too. Edit - Aqua beat me to it.

I would normally agree with you about Carey, but did you catch that Minnesota-San Diego game? In the first half there were about three penalties called, called back, and then called again in the same series either with an explanation where there needn't be or no explanation when there should be. You're right, he usually is pretty good though.

Yeah I actully did watch that game, that was weird. At least they got it right in the end though. There were some clock malfunctions so blame the clock operators.

What are you guys talking about? It's obvious that tonight's crew was bar none the best refereeing crew money could buy! I'd say they easily surpassed the refs from other high school towns in "Hoosiers" or those Nazi refs from "Victory!" Plus, just like "Victory!", there was pumped-in crowd noise! What more could you ask for from your game experience?

Tonight's game was attempted robbery. The Patriots are like young Conan and Belichick needs to be like Conan's dad. Not the referees or the league or the newspaper columnists in this world can you trust, but this (pointing to a football), *this* you can trust.

The play clock was malfunctioning and Carey had given a delay of game penalty because it was still running when he was talking through a previous delay of game. Not really his fault.

Mike Carey seems to really get into the games more than anyone. Just the way he emphasizes the ''Defense!''/''Offense!'' part.

I think Johnny Greer does a good job. I very rarely see he and his crew make bad calls.

I second Hocculli's crew for everygame. We joke about his guns but his crew usually calls a good game.

I would go with Carey as my second choice.

Acid test

The acid test of whether
gamblers put the fix in or
the league put the fix in ...
will be whether the league launches an inquiry
and issues punishment.
