A make-or-break game for Adalius Thomas

Thomas was signed for one reason, I believe. That was to control Dallas Clark. The Patriots knew they could beat any team in the league with last year's team. Except Indianapolis. So they went shopping for players that can beat Indy. Thomas can neutralize Clark, just like he neutralized Witten.

oh stop. We've stopped Clark in past. Thomas didnt neutralize Witten..that was Rodney Harrison playing on him most of the game

we didnt get any of these players to stop 1 player or one team. What..its illegal to sign players without having the purpose to stop a player or a team?

As far as im concered..Addai had a nice game.So did Reggie Wayne. Who did we sign to cover them?

This is a make or break game for the entire defense. The first 8 games of the season can't even be judged because teams have all been throwing late.

Thomas should have things covered
By Christopher L. Gasper, Globe Staff November 4, 2007

...

Ryan, who concocted a game plan for the Ravens that held the Colts to 261 total yards in Baltimore's 15-6 loss in the divisional playoffs, said part of that plan was putting Thomas on Clark, who only had two catches for 41 yards.

"In that playoff game last year, he covered Dallas one-on-one and he didn't catch any balls," said Ryan. "Then we took AD off him and he caught a couple of balls. He's covered Tony Gonzalez one-on-one. AD might be able to cover better than any DB. He's an unusual guy."

I am glad someone is watching besides me - Harrison will be the Nickle> Safety>LB in slot coverage to help stop Clark.

AD has been a monster this year, improving with each week as he better handles his responsibilities. It is no accident that Vrabel is running so free.

Now with the return of Seymour - we are SCARY good on "D" and it will show today.

The point of my original post was not to bash Thomas, but I do think he's been a bit of a disappointment.

I think that mainly for 2 reasons:

(1) I can't help but compare him to our 2 additions (Moss and Welker) who have made BB look like a genius, and
(2) He was the #2 marquee defensive free agent (behind Clements) in the entire league!

Still, I think he's been a solid addition. It's just that 'solid' isn't going to cut it. We need 'great', especially today.

Remember, AD is the only major addition to a defense that gave up 38 points to the Colts in the last playoff game!

AD was brought in to fix a problem. Now he has a chance to show us that BB did the right thing in signing him. I want to win this game. I want to see AD bring his best game today and shut down the Colts.

First of all, this thread sucks.

Second of all, did anyone else catch Merril Hodge on EA Sports NFL Matchup this morning on ESPN? He said that if the Pats put Thomas to Clark, Clark would have 100+ yards receiving.

I'll have to give that to you, if AD had double-digit touchdowns this season he'd certainly have made Belichick look like a genious. But he plays linebacker. Who do you think the media's going to focus on? You need to start paying attention to how he's been playing instead of paying attention to how much attention the media's paying him versus Moss.

I think Thomas can limit Clark's touches. He can play the run AND the pass. This allows the Pats to have someone on the D to protect the seams without drastically changing their personnel packages. This is especially useful if the Colts decide to run some no huddle offense on us.

You know the Colts will definitely run some no huddle this game.

Who cares what that loser Merrill Hoge has to say?

Hoge has no idea who Thomas is and some of you guys have no idea who covered who. We did not assign Thomas man to man with Gates. Nor did we do the same with Witten

We played normal with Harrison being the man on Witten most of the time..and a few times against Cooleyl ast week

I think Thomas has been outstanding this year.
Ditto....in spite of having a bad ankle problem....he will get better!!! Make or break??? laughable thought...

Long term could Adalius be more effective outside? Its seems as an OLB, there is more wrinkles in the gameplan to take advantage of AD's versatility.

right cause comparing 2 WR's to a LB makes SO much sense.
