Herald: Dillon open to returning

When asked if there had been any communication with the Patriots since Morris went down to injury in the Dallas game, Feldman clammed up.

“I’d rather not comment on that,” Feldman answered.

I do think we need that hammer around the goal line and someone to run the ball 5-10 carries a game.

Can Dillon accept the role? You wonder if BB wants him back.

I would not be surprised by an announcement either Monday or Tuesday. We are WAAAAAAAY to thin to be comfortable at RB and Dillion (as old and slow as he is) is still a way better option than cast off rejects like Barlow.

...and there is no LEARNING curve since he knows this offense.

Kinda funny, because in the Globe this morning, Feldman was giving a Full Monty on it - no reticence there. He was definitely talking it up to Christopher Glasper!

actually, we aren't any thinner at RB today than we were for the last 2 weeks--we blew out Miami and Washington with balanced attacks if you don't recall

if NE brings in a RB, it won't be until around Thanksgiving

My only question is:
Dillon knew he was playing going into last season, and his conditioning wasn't up to par.
Now, what does that say of Dillon's 'working out' with only 2-1/2 weeks notice?
I just wonder if, at his age, he can put in the work it takes to get a 30-something body into NFL shape at his position.

Without knowing BBs thoughts. I do think it it is 50/50. Three things need to happen in order for CD to come back. He needs to admit to himself that he will be a backup on this team and not whine about it. Second, he needs to show the staff that he still has the pre-req physcial skills. Last, he needs to show the emotional commitment.

If Dillon wants to come back, that mightmean that he did part on semi-decent terms with BB.

I agree, he wouldn't be activated til after t-giving. But if they are thinking of him realistically, they'll want him in conditioning sooner, rather then later. Maroney and Faulk, while both great players, is one play from putting us in a RB crisis. Dillon is depth, and probably has limited value in what he has left, but he's still a better option than cast-offs

That's my opinion.

Why do you say his conditioning wasn't up to par? I don't get this kind of pop psychology mentality that goes against facts - - kind of like the "Patrick Pass had one glaring error so he stinks", or "Caldwell dropped two in the AFCCG so he was a total bust" kind of thinking.

Dillon had 899 yards, 13 TD's and a 4.1 Avg while being used as a battering ram on short yardage situations last year.

Meanwhile, many on this board are still in love with Heath Evans for some reason.

Sure he's lost a step. Who hasn't at that age?

Still, he deserves to be a part of this year's run. He deserves to taste the domination. Even if he isn't in for many snaps, he deserves to celebrate with the Pats. He gave us so much in the past.

I'd love to see Corey come back home to New England.

Not sure at this speed eckel or evans are very close to what he can offer.We need 220-230 LB 26-29yr old RB who can run.

Nah! I think I would pass. The guy is done and hasn't exactly been a great guy to be around the last few years. Rumors are that he wasn't that popular guy in the locker room as it was made out to be. He wasn't a cancer, but not a popular player either.

Personally, I am hoping the Raiders cut Domanick Rhodes. I think he would be a better back up than Dillon at this point.

Unless Corey has been working out all off season and training camps, I don't want him back. There's no way he'd be able to get into game shape in just a few weeks. I'd be afraid he'd get killed out there, with the way our guys are getting headhunted!
However, if he's been busting it and staying in shape for a return, then he11 yes, it would be great to see him stiffarm'n his way down the field again!

From everything that's been said a couple of things are pretty clear:

Corey likely remained in decent shape, but he didn't start working out with an eye towards even a possible return until a week or two ago.

Given the dearth of RB injuries this season there is little left on the scrap heap that would be a clear upgrade over what we have in Evans and Eckle - who have a leg up in that they are familiar with the new blocking scheme.

Corey in shape and healthy would be that upgrade. However it takes more time and usually much more work to get in shape to play football in your 30's. Corey hasn't put in that work, so whether he can get in football shape in the next month and whether that player would be conditioned well enough to avoid the little tweeks and be a player you can count on remains to be seen.

The Patriots are likely interested, but they aren't going to tie up a roster spot down the stretch on a RB who can't take the field. That is why Morris went on IR.

Corey would have to be prepared to fit in and just do a job. Maybe coming off the couch that opportunity would be enough to salve his ego. While I do think the players liked him and he worked as hard as he could, I think it was a bit of an effort for them to manage his ego. They don't need the extra work. Maroney doesn't need the crutch. That's why there were no tears when he left, just gratitude for what he did in 2004 - which was huge.

I think he's a worst case cover your bases fallback, and they will add him to the roster late if they feel comfortable with his condition as mid-December approaches and the condition of the rest of the roster, including ST and receiving backups, heading into the playoffs.

I don't think they have to do anything more than that. I don't think he's interested in signing with any other "contender". His agent is just spinning it that way to get as much as he can for his player if and when he signs.
