Meriweather Secret Weapon?

On Felger show, a caller said that Brandon Meriweather would be the secret weapon this weekend vs. Dallas Clark. Andy Hart confirmed that is a rumor he is hearing.

All due respect to the caller and Andy Hart, I just don't see it. Meriweather got burnt pretty badly by Cooley on that TD last weekend and that is the first time I remember seeing Meriweather on the field doing anything good or bad in weeks. Why would they make a rookie who has been a disapointment so far in as a secret weapon against one of Indy's biggest weapons?

I hope that he does break out in this game and live up to his expectations, but I just don't see Belichick and Pees gambling the defensive game plan on Meriweather being a big part of the overall game plan.

It wouldn't surprise me. Not in the least. The kid hits hard, we can play 5 DBs all game on the Colts, since Clark is not a big bruiser at TE.

Plus, one element of the Colts offense that has been used a lot this year is passes from Manning to Addai. I can imagine that a player like Adalius will be more on the lookout for that sort of thing, as Rodney and Meriweather take care of Clark.

I'm in favor of as much coverage ability and speed out there as possible. I'd love to have Samuel, Hobbs, Gay and Merriweather out there with Rodney. That's 5 but we'll have a lot of Nickel looks against Indy. Is Meriweather ready ? I have no idea but I think he'd generally do OK against Clark; he's been a solid tackler so far, I'm not going to let him being dragged into the end zone one time by Cooley undo all the other solid hitting he's done.

Considering Meriweather hasn't even been the first safety off the bench, I find this hard to believe.

Clark listed as 6'3" 252

Merriweather listed as 6' 195.
He may be a little light in the arse for those matchups.

For this game I want as much speed as possible. Sanders is fine but he's still a poor man's Rodney more than anything else and those two in the middle don't excite me for this matchup.

At least on third downs it might be a good idea for 96 to be in charge of the back at all times if he stays back and is seen engaged in a block then he should try to get in Satans face to knock down a pass or hurry the throw.
I'd give AD that main objective.
As far as Meriweather I have seen alot of things I like from him having him shadow dallas clark might be a good job for him.
It seems to be he hasn't got used to his placement on the field in certain play sets, or can diagnose what the man he's responsible of covering is doing especially if he has to change coverage or he switches assignments with another db during the play.
Having him become Dallas's shadow might give the young rookie the chance to be competitive and have one thing to do.
Take advantage of his physical talents and don't let him have to think to much to a complicated offense.
What isn't their to like about that?

Alexander was inexperienced going into the AFCCG. Meriweather is inexperienced going into this Sunday. We should test our secret weapon against a crappy team like the Jets before we throw them into the fire.

I love this idea that Meriweather is written off because he did a poor job of tackling Cooley. He should be written off a bit, not because of that but because he's a rookie and, for the most part, is playing like a rookie. He'll be okay, but let's not take ONE PLAY to make that judgment. People do the same thing with Cassel.

I was listening to Felgers show as well. A caller called up and mentioned something about Meriweather being a possible secret weapon....and you could tell that Andy Hart wasn't going to say anything...but since the caller brought it up, Hart spilled the beans saying he had heard the rumor might have legs.

Wouldn't that be something if B. Meriweather has been studying nothing but tape on Clark since he got into camp, just for this game. I wouldn't put it past Billy B. That is for sure.

I quite like the idea if true. OK so he made one bad tackle against Washington which led to their touchdown, but dont you think he got singled out in practice for that ? I like how Meriweather hits and he can pound Clark whever he touches the ball. Its about time now he shows us why he was picked in the first round. No excuses just tackle and we know he can.

Yeah, but throwing Alexander into a complex defensive scheme against the Colts in the AFCCG is a little different than saying, "Hey, rook, use all of your prodigious physical skills to stay with that guy, and that guy alone, wherever he goes."

Yeah and experience is a nice quality to have going against the second best offense in the league. Sanders, Harrison, and Gay at this point are much better NFL DB's than Meriweather is. The three will probably rotate on who gets Clark, and they'll get help from the LB's. I kinda hope Meriweather is given this assignment just so we can see what he's made of, but at this point there's no reason to risk it.
