Hopefully the Patriots win this sunday against the Colts, and that's really where my focus is (as a Pats fan), but I've also been thinking about something else. Could this weeks matchup affect the Colts simularly to how the SD game effected NE last year?

Think about it, the Colts will be coming off a very physical game with NE (after playing two other physical teams in the Jags & Panthers), and will then have to fly out to San Diego to take on a very physical Chargers team that is playing pretty good right now. NE on the other hand gets their Bye week after playing the Colts.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Colts were to drop that game in San Diego, which makes this Sunday's game pretty important for both Indy and NE.

Has anyone else had simular thoughts?

Yeah, I think it all depends on which SD shows up. If it's the team that started 1-3, the Colts will beat them anyways. That said, I really think that the Chargers have turned a corner, the way LT has gotten locked into his game, and how they've been demolishing opponents recently (funny thing though, I live in SoCal, and after the 1-3 start everyone gave up on the Chargers. Even now, nobody's talking about them), this is a team that seems to have turned a corner. If this is the case, then a tough game vs. the Pats could really wear them down and leave them vulnerable.

As a Colts fan - sure it's a concern. That's why I think it's important to get at least one of those two. Interesting though, I picked us to go 12-4 this year so we only need to go 5-4 the rest of the year and my prediction would come true. Somehow, I don't think I would be satisfied with that now.

I am thinking about this year and how teams have responded after the Pats humiliate them.

What will happen to the colts if they are humiliated?

It should be fun.

yup, not really a concern however...

if (when) we beat the Colts this week, they will lose again next week...2 in a row would be pretty bad, but i dont see colts beating san diego...

if colts win (not gonna happen, but arguments sake) then they have a better chance beating SD

I was thinking about this too. If the Patriots were to win this week, and the Colts were to drop that game against SD, then NE would have a two game lead over Indy. That my friends would be huge when it comes to the Patriots chances of securing HFA.

I believe this phenomena regularly happens when a team plays the Pats - win or lose. These games take something out of the opposition.

I don't have statistics to bear this out, but when paying attention (a spotty sport with me!), it's something I've noticed over time.

Call it a gut feeling, if you will, but I think it's more than likely.

The big exception, of course, was Indy and the AFCCG last season. But there were 2 weeks between that and the Super Bowl, so I don't know if the layoff would invalidate the premise or not.

Well, doing a spot check on this kind of thing, just for this season, it's 3 - 3, but that record is a little misleading.

2 of the teams that have wins following a game with the Pats had games that they should have won beyond all question - Buffalo beating the Jets in week 4, and Cleveland emptying Miami's pool in week 6. Only Dallas, defeating Minny in week 7 appears bona fide. Cincinnati was bye in week 5 following their loss to the Pats (they did lose the next game).

Washington, our latest victim, has a rendezvous with the Jets Sunday, so if they show up, they should win.

Going back over previous years would enlightening, I'm sure, but I don't have the time right now.

Hope this was helpful, at least a little bit...

I wouldn't be surprised if Colts lose to San Diego either but SD has only won against average to poor teams so far so I don't know if SD is really any good yet.
