I think six months ago, most of us--and most pundits--would have guessed that Dallas would have an extra top-5 pick, and the Patriots an extra pick somewhere between 16 and 30.

Now, though, it looks like the situation is almost exactly reversed--the Pats appear headed for a top-5 pick, while the Cleveland pick looks to be middle of the pack.

So, here's my question--do you think that a swap of first-round picks (more or less straight up) could/would/should happen?

The Patriots should do it in a second, unless the get a better offer. Dallas would only really have interest if Mcfadden is available.

why would Dallas draft McFadden when they have a great 1/2 punch in Barber and Jones? I would think they are looking D

I agree with Boston Boxer. They are fine on Offense with the exception of some aging WRs..Defense and especially the secondary are areas where they will be looking for immediate upgrades.

I cannot see them trading up for Mcfadden but if they really want to I have no issue reuniting Barber with Maroney. Love the aggression he runs with.

I don't think there is any defensive player in the top 5 they would consider, I think they like McFadden as a feature back and Jones would become expendable.

Jones is an unrestricted free agent who probably won't be back. But I think they'd rather let Barber be the man, and maybe draft a part-time back or true 3rd down RB later in the draft.

If Dallas were to draft in that spot, they'd almost certainly be looking for offensive line help, or defensive line help.

But I don't get the question? Is it suggested that we trade (roughly speaking) #5 for #18 and #29? I don't like that trade, from a value perspective (I'm not consulting the chart) Of course we won't know until the draft order is determined, but while BB might not want to pick fifth, I'd bet he'd like a shot in the 11-15 range. Especially when you figure the bonus of the added year to the contract for being in the top 16. We would need to pick up another pick from Dallas to make this worthwhile, probably their 2nd rounder considering how late they'll be drafting, or perhaps their second in 2009. Or maybe their third and fourth.

But given the talent on this roster, I could easily see BB trading up to #3 or so to get Long, if he thinks he's going to be a great player. He would replace Britt on the roster, shift Light to the right side, and make Kazcur the swing tackle. That's a solid upgrade if Long's projection is correct.

That would be a great move, or put Long at RT for a year. I case could be made for a similar move for McFadden. If they think he is a difference maker, ala Adrian Peterson. If the pick is 4-8 we should have no trouble trading down to a team seeking QB help.

I realize we have Maroney already but McFadden would look great in a Pats uniform.

I think Dallas needs are similiar to us. Need help in secondary. Though, they could also use a DL. I know that nobody wants to hear it. But, I think we'll trade down to a team that wants a qb. We'll get their 1 and 3 this year. And, their nr. 1 next year. This board will be in meltdown. People will be calling Belichick an idiot. Even thought we will be coming off a 19-0 season. Some likely candidates who need a qb; Minny,Detroit,KC,Chicago,Carolina,Jax(Del Rio publicly admitted they probably should have considered B.Quinn..my prediction). The teams at the top all have qb issues. Miami, St.L, Jets and
Atlanta. I think Atlanta is the only one that has qb at the top of their needs. But, those other 3 have to consider a qb if they consider any of this year's qb's franchise players. I don't think any of them; Brohm,Ryan or Woodson are franchise players. But, qb's are usually over-rated and drafted too high.
