I heard you said Randy Moss is the smartest receiver you've been around. How is his intelligence manifested on the field?

You can play him wherever you want to play him. He can play X, he can play Z, he can play F, whatever you want him to do. You'll see him pretty much everywhere. That is pretty unusual. We've had a few guys who could mentally do it but not necessarily physically do it. We've had some guys who could physically do it but maybe couldn't do it mentally. Randy is really smart in terms of the passing game. He understands DB techniques, how to beat them, how to adjust the timing of his routes, how to adjust his routes to get open, coverages, how to set those up. He understands that in double coverage, depending on what route you have on, there is only one guy covering you—so that's the guy you have to attack and beat. Hand placement when ball is in the air, ball skills—it comes so naturally to him. He knows how to use the whole field, the sideline, the end line.

It amazes me how stupid reporters are. The guy answers football questions. He doesn't answer specific strategies for specific games. If reporters were smart, they'd stick to what he'll answer, because his knowledge is encyclopedic. Ask him historic questions. Ask him context questions. Ask him tactic and technique questions. He answers them all. His answers are, seriously, amazing. I suspect, if one were to compile answers like this into a book, one would have one of the best football coaching books ever.

I always notice this when i watch all access as well. When you stick to the things that won't hurt his chances of winning, his answers are incredibly layered and deep and interesting. They reveal so much about the game of football that I miss because i'm no football guru. I learn when i listen.

Great point, Rod. Ask him about any player on the field or upcoming opponent and BB will go to great lengths about all of their strengths. Ask him about an opposing players comments, a game other than the next one on the schedule or some fabricated media talking point and that's what the reporter will get in return. Yet some insist on trying and wasting their question for an answer BB will not give.

I think those who haven't crapped upon BB just for the sake of crapping on him will realize that they'll have much more access when they treat he and the team fairly. Those that wish to spread rumor and innuendo will get the same curt, 3-5 word answers.

Q: What is Brady doing better this year than he has in the past?

BB: Not much. He has won a lot of games in the past and made a lot of good plays. We threw the ball pretty well the second half of last year. People are talking like we never completed a pass around here. Tom always works hard to improve. But he was pretty good. He makes good decisions. Throws the ball accurately. He throws it to the open guy. He manages the clock. Manages the team. Handles the protections. He's pretty good, and he has been pretty good.

If BB thinks he's pretty good, he must be!

Not sure how he got so many detractors from Spygate, everyone was doing something like it, otoh it is what it is.
