Omg Running Up The Score!!! Off With Their Heads!

Oh my!

The defending state champion has outscored its opponents 640-0 so far this season, including a 69-0 win over Plainville earlier this year.

That was the amazing part. Maybe they're playing in Pop Warner and no one has told them yet.

Some jerk had the nerve to write I was glad to see he didnt keep running up ther score for 3+ quarters like BB, and they only scored 2 more times the rest of the game.

If we go up 76 to 0 in the first quarter, the backups will come in, and the entire other team will get fired.

Is the local media telling HS kids they should take out the QB?

In Connecticut, that will be a big no-no. There is actually a rule forbidding scoring more than 50 points than your opponent. Absolutely pathetic.

Either that article is slightly inaccurate, or the rule was modified after that article was written.

What the rule now says--and I think it is a fair rule at the HS level--is that if a team goes up 50 points, the coach will be suspended for a game unless he made a bona fide effort not to keep running up the score (i.e., start running the ball every down, pull out the starters, etc.).

I can think of at least one instance, either late last year or earlier this year, where they mentioned the rule, but noted that the coach would not be suspended, because he had pulled his starters late in the game.

You guys will never understand. High school sports teams have perfect regular seasons all the time. I heard one local team went 20-0 and but lost its first playoff game last season.

In professional sports, this can NOT happen. It would not be fair to the players for this to happen because of two things: 1) it's football, and 2) at a professional level. Imagine one team going 16-0, or another losing every game. It just is not fair. It's not fair! In fact, I would go as far as to say that the undefeated team is likely cheating, while the team that can't win has bad luck.
