Dr Z:Patriots risk backlash on field

If someone intentionally tried to hurt Brady or anyone else, like when Jerome Brown bodyslammed Jim McMahon after the whistle, they would be suspended for a year or more. They might be upset, but they're not going to put their livelihood on the line because we scored an extra touchdown against them.

And the story that Len Dawson was talking about - he got some beat up ribs - those sort of injuries happen whether the other team is mad at you or not.

When you think about it, it's a hell of a way to keep people focused.

"Remember, these guys are going to try to kill you after what we did to them last time. Show them what you're made out of."

In BB I trust.

All this hate, rage, anger at the Pats being so much better than everyone. It's all going to dissipate in five years when people get on the, "man, all I know is I saw the 07 Pats play" bandwagon.

I like how he initially points to a game where Gibbs ran up the score, establishes that coaches have long memories about this stuff, and then looks into why Belichick would run up the score on Gibbs's Redskins without considering that it might have been payback. He seemed to obviously be leading there and I was surprised when it wasn't even tossed out.

Either Z didn't see the obvious conclusion, or it didn't fit where he wanted to go so he ignored it. So he's either dumb or disingenuous. I'll go with the latter, since that's the expectation with the modern media.

I have two words for anyone who wants to throw a cheap shot at Brady.....

Logan Mankins

If you think the shot to the balls last year was bad, wait and see the beating that he puts on anyone who tries this crap.

I would have to say that Stephen Neal could kick Logan's butt. That would be the guy I worried about.

Not me. Goodell can only fine and suspend you. Meanwhile, the Patriots would be without a QB. There has to be an enforcer on the field to make a player physically fear for their career.

I am sure "Z" was going to make that point but he probably fell asleep on the keyboard before he could finish and the copywriter just printed out what was there, not wanting to wake him.

Seriously, of all the people to either get mad at or gush about, this has been is one of those that just doesn't bother me. It is just not important what he writes.

For me personally, I would take a punch in the jewels over losing a few hundrend grand, never mind a million or more.

Actually if any team were to even accidentally take out Brady after all this hoopla about it I think THAT team's quarterback would have a coronary!

Football is an "eye for an eye" sport and there would probably be some severe repercussions immediately.

If they think the Pats are pissed now picture how they'd be if they think somebody took out Tom on purpose (and we all know if he did go down it WAS on purpose so make the ******ds pay)!

Jesus H, what kind of mentality is "if you can't beat them, hurt them"?

Charles Martin (GB Packers)

In 1991 I was covering Atlanta-Washington in the playoffs. I talked to the Falcons' defensive end, Tim Green, and he said, "Ask Glanville about Joe Gibbs throwing the out and up in the fourth quarter when they were ahead, 42-17. He's been using that as a motivational tool all week.
Ten years later I met Glanville at a party at the league meetings in March. He didn't remember me. I asked him, casually, about Gibbs throwing the out and up, leading 42-17. Rage once again, only this time it wasn't directed at me.

"That son of a *****," he said. "I'll never forget it. Someday I'll get even."

Here's one for the stoopid hall of fame. Glanville vows to get even in 2001? Problem is, his coaching career ended in 1993.

I bet Jerry put a bag of flaming dog poo on Gibbs' porch.

I'm looking at this from the point of view of a Patriots fan, not a player. Players MAKE money when they pull this stuff because it helps their team's win. No Brady? Your chances go up.

We have the ultimate one.....Rodney Harrison. He will lay waste to Peyton Manning on a safety blitz when the wistle was blown 5 min. prior.

One sure way of protecting Brady or any of the others - put Belichick on the field. Problem over.

This is my view exactly. What a pathetic statement on the moral bankruptcy of much of the NFL punditry/institution. The idea that because you can't stop another team, you are justified in going out and trying to injure them is ****ing crazy.

Look, it's reeeal simple. You guys on the other side are paid really well to do one thing: stop NFL offenses. If you can't do that, it ain't the Patriots' fault. And if you think that gives you a right to put their careers in jeopardy, you are nothing but a petty thug who deserves jail time, not a signing bonus.
