DeAngelo Hall talking his way out of town?

When Hall was told Petrino said the move was a football decision, he responded: "If that's the case they need to cut about 52 [players], they can cut me too, they can cut all 53 of us. Ain't nobody playing the way they should be playing right now. Obviously. We're 1-6. To single out Grady is asinine. It's ridiculous. We got so many players that haven't made a play around here. It don't make no sense. We gave a lot of people jobs. To sit there and single Grady out and say that's the reason why, that's ludicrous. If you've got something else better and more concrete to go off of, I'd love to hear it. I'm not buying that one."

Now here is the question. If Deangelo gets cut by the Falcons or put on the trading block, would you be interested in adding him to this Patriots team? Looks like another disgruntled Corey Dillon type situation to me. If Hall comes in here he would give a lot of leverage vs Asante Samuel. Or Imagine if we kept em both,the Pats secondary would be SHUTDOWN on both sides of the field! Thoughts?

hall has been abused the last few years. hes very fast but that doesnt translate into being a good cornerback. not sure if its the scheme or just his lack of playmaking ability but he just hasnt impressed me.

I think he'd be great here. Once he calms down and fits into the system and gets some better coaching, he'll be great.

Wonder what we'd have to give up for him? He has one year left on a rookie contract, so probably not much.

Not interested. Hall is hit or miss. He gets toasted too much and he should get knocked out by one of his teammates.

Hall is the most overrated CB in the NFL IMO. He's abused all the time and all he does is talk trash which is why he's so popular.

I'd take Carlos Rogers over him any day of the week.
And Terence Newman, and Lito Sheppard, and many other CB's that don't get the recognition he does but are better than him.

I am kind of glad Atlanta is going with new talent over veterans. The abundance of wr's that cant catch passes has been disturbing over the years, thats when vick did actually connect. Finally somebody steps up Roddy White, not sure where he was on the depth charts, but I never heard of him. Hall had a really good monday night game against TO a few years back, kind of gave him the "really good" corner tag. If I recall it was more or less Hall getting inside of TO's head, which TO ended up spitting at Hall. Next time around TO made hall look a fool (not sure if it was this years game).

Roddy White? I actually liked him in the draft. He was taken in round 1, pick 27 of the 2005 draft. We took Mankins at #32 that year.

If Deangelo would only cost a 2nd day pick or is cut outright, I'd say its worth taking a chance on him. He's got the talent. He just needs to be used properly imo.

Hall is the most inconsistent corner in the league...25% of the time he looks like Champ Bailey, but the other 75% he's more like Duane Starks. Also, Hall couldn't care less where he goes as long as he gets his money...that's literally all he cares about...All this being said, I would LOVE to bring Grady Jackson here on the vets min. Jackson will be a great backup for Wilfork, and when we use a four man line it will be ridiculous. Seymour-Jackson-Wilfork-Warren

Atlanta will likely be picking in the 4-6 range next year and the Dolphins will be picking 1 or 2. We can swap picks so Petrino can get Brohm and we get Hall and a 3rd round pick to boot or something of that nature.

Belichick was thinking strongly about trading up for Hall in the 2004 draft. Instead he stayed put and took Wilfork and Watson. The success of those two players puts into perspective the type of talent Hall represents, for BB to even consider it.

I'm convinced that Asante is playing the defensive version of David Givens... the best player in a thin talent pool, who has mastered the system, leverages the few things he does really well to build a reputation among the stat mongers in scouting circles, that he is somehow an elite player.

Hall, on the other hand, is more like a Moss or a Ted Washington or a Corey Dillon. Incredible, rare, HOF-calibre talent that Belichick would transform into a world beater.

Mark my words, if Hall becomes available, he's the kind of guy BB would break the piggy bank for.

The key with getting a player like that (high ability, possibly poor attitude) is risk management. You want to minimize your downside risk if he doesn't work out. So you don't over pay in draft picks for him and you don't sign him to a big signing bonus contract. He's under contract for one more year at a low salary, so you have some leverage to get him into an incentive laden contract where if he doesn't perform, he gets cut and you don't lose.

IF they can coach up Samuel, what could they do for this guy?

On the other hand, some people can't be coached. They don't take well to criticism.

I am not sure he would..a lot of his talk as far as I can see is just lowering his value...and I am not sure that is needed or wanted. but besides that he does seem a bit inconsistent Breaking the bank?? Not sure...I think there's more of a question mark than anything..

Transform it into what? Our CBs have played great that past two years, the Safety play has slipped but that may have been due to injury. Outside of Denver, Hobbs and Samuel are about the best there is.

Old memories die hard, the cornerbacks played below expectations after Law left (see Duane Starks etc.) but at least for 07 we have some very good players.

I won't underestimate the value of knowing the system, Samuel understands the scheme and obviously spends a lot of time breaking down game film. He may lose a push up contest to Hall but will always be more valuable and more productive in the Pats system. Teams are actively staying away from Samuel, I think the play against the Bengals highlights his understanding and preparation.

That being said, my opinion of Hall is much lower than Moss or Dillion, he does an awful lot of talking and can't back it up (use his games against Chad Johnson as a reference). If Samuel leaves and Hall can be signed to a cap friendly deal then he may be a solid option in a very thin CB pool.
