Exactly. And "miraculously" everyone is nice and polite over at Extremeskins because..........?

Because it's impossible for opposing fans to get in within 2 weeks.

Once again, the orderly Soviet Union analogy.

They'd be doing the exact same thing if they were getting visited so often by other teams' fans in the same situation.

If PUJo and others are so upset about the tenor, perhaps Ian should institute the very same policies that Extremeskins and most other fansites have.

Then we'll be "as good" as them.
Why should we be "as good" as them? We should be better. Meaning treat every poster on their own merits. It's really not that hard and has nothing to do with Skinsfans.com or the Soviet Union. Just act like a normal person unless someone gives you a reason to be an ass. Then be an ass to your heart's content.

He Ban Me gives me plenty of reasons.

No argument there, He Ban Me deserves it. But don't be an ass to someone else because He Ban Me deserves.

It's a very subjective thing isn't it? Some people enjoy He Ban Me and some people don't. Some people think Be Logical is insightful and some people see him as posting or spamming irrelevant statistics of bygone eras to somehow prove that the Redskins will do well on Sunday.

Attitude is subjective. Once again, Pujo, if every other fan website allowed other teams' fans on in the split second quickness and ease that Patsfans.com allows, you'd see plenty of open discord at those sites also. The Patriots are the number 1 target in American sports (hands down) at the moment - - you have NO IDEA what we Mods have had to delete and ask Ian to ban ever since the Spygate story came out 6 weeks ago. There are some really motivated trolls out there with alot of time on their hands, let's just put it that way.

The only rules are no politics, no harsh vulgarity, no personal threats or insults, no spamming and no senseless trolling.

It's amazing you post this, since the Redskins fans who are flowing here are coming from a website that doesn't even allow opposing fans to jump in.

Once again, bad analogy but I'll use it - - it's like the old police state Soviet Union crowing about how nice and orderly everything was there instead of the messy United States where people argued all the time.

In a free and open marketplace of ideas, you are going to get a full range of people and styles. The people at Extremeskins.com and so many other fan websites don't understand this at all. Had you read the discussions in other threads regarding this very issue, you would have seen several of the Redskins fans grudgingly agree on this very point.

I think the reason some fan sites don't allow other teams' fans is simple - their football is their escape from the drudgeries of every day life. They don't like to read bad things about their team or argue about it. They only want the good and to dream about what might happen in the near future. It also has to do with why opposing fans who come here get attacked. Let's face it, most fans who go on websites are real homers - very devoted to their teams. I know after a Pats loss I can't bear to read the press for a few days. I read the first few lines of TMQ the other day and stopped reading. Another columnist on my "banned" list for the year.

I don't want the site rules to change but people being more pleasant to eachother would be a welcome change.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm not talking about everyone-on-the-whole, I'm talking about particular posters.

If a particular poster isn't being a douche, don't treat him like one. You don't have to treat them all like douches just because some, or most of them are.

In regard to the trolls and morons,I dont care what the Patsfans crowd says to them,I agree that some fans of other teams have come in with reasonable posts which are not trash-talking or making idiotic comments and have been jumped on.In some cases I thought it was undeserved...my 2 cents...

Guess what? We don't regulate attitude on this board.

I'll repeat: No politics, no harsh vulgarity, no personal threats or insults, no spamming and no senseless trolling.

Hurting someone's feelings, while regrettable, is not our police beat. In society, there will be some harsh critics, some unfair ones, some kind ones and some Pollyannas.

It's the risk that exists with an open and free board that welcomes fans of all teams. I think that freedom is a strength of this board and the closed doors of other boards are their weakness.

Give me several instances of fans of other teams who were treated disrespectfully BEFORE they came here with insults and trash talks.

You act like this happens all the time, and it doesn't.

Also, you say that you have never been treated poorly at other stadiums but have seen other fans being treated poorly here. Here where? At Gillette? I doubt it. I have had nothing but good times with fans of other teams at Gillette.

You cannot compare in-person experiences with internet experiences. The trolls that come here with Brady is gay, and Belicheat and trash-talking would not do so in person. They are simply cowards who hike behind the anonymity of the internet, coming back to mock the Pats when we lose and disappear when their team loses.

When Patsfans are having a discussion of the Patriots, and trolls break up hte discussion with, "You are all homers" and "You are blind/stupid/in dreamland" how is that being disrespectful.

To say that trolls are treated badly here but they don't treat us badly on other sites is simply an ignorant thing to say. Not ignorant as an insult, but ignorant as in ignorant of the facts. I do not frequent sites of other teams, but have clinked on links posted here for specific threads. If you were to investigate before saying that other fans treat us with respect, then you would NEVER say such a thing. The worst things said to trolls here are NOTHING compared to what other fans say to and about us, including calls to go in low on Brady and put him on IR, and my favorite, the threads mocking Bruschi with "Serves him right" and "Too bad it wasn't Brady" after his heart attack..

The solution is simple. There is a forum here for fans of other teams to come and talk smack. All that needs to happen is the first time a troll comes here and talks smack, he/she is restricted to that forum. Then we will only have fans of other teams who wish to talk football here, and insulting trolls won't be here.

The last sentence is a remarkably hypocritical thing to say when you are finding fault with others for not being respectful.

"Stop being an ass. You should be respectul of people, like I am."

I think it is important to understand that there seem to be different definitions of what a troll is.

Some people seem to think that as soon as a fan of an opposing team says something about their team having a chance in the game against us, they become a troll even if they say it in a relatively respectful manner or have some semblance of an argument behind their position. Those some people then jump all over them, call them a troll, and are significantly more rude to them then they ever were to us.

I personally take a more narrow view of what a troll is. I think it takes more than one post (unless REALLY egregious) to become a troll. A troll is either someone spamming up the board with repeated posts of the same nature and no reasoning behind their position, someone who is disrespectful to us on our board, or someone who simply refuses to engage in the debate.

It's not assinine to think that the Redskins have a good D. They do. It's not assinine to think they have a decent running attack. They do. Do I think this means that they will win the game? Of course not! But I'm willing to listen to the argument. BB and the Pats listen to the argument, which is the very reason that they don't fall into trap games, and should be the reason that we don't either.

How stupid does TO sound after losing to the Pats because he ran his mouth before the game. Why would people on this board want to look that stupid if, god forbid, we do lose a game?!?!

And here's an example of a Skins fan who went out of his way to be nice and still got shat on.

http://www.patsfans.com/new-england-patriots/messageboard/showthread.php?t=64848

Got shat on????? WTF  A little sensitive are we?

Follow along.

post 1) Troll posts a respectfully sounding "I think we're gonna win" post with a link to "rah, rah, sis, boom, bah...." thread on his HOME forum. No supporting thesis, no facts and figures, NO X's and O's FOOTBALL TALK, just smack basically.........

post 2) Pats fans basically in an equally respecful way, say's "you got no shot, I think we win big". Equally, he provides no supporting thesis, no facts and figures, NO X's and O's FOOTBALL TALK, just pretty much smack back talk.

post 3) Skins troll instigator posts.
It seems that there is definitely a line between confidence and ****iness/arrogance.

Pats fans have crossed it.

Thread spirals down from there. The initial poster was posting SMACK, and got Smack in response. Nothing wrong there, until the next douche comes along and lines up with "No class pats fans" in our house.

If you wanna be a pansy fan who lets guest talk to you like you are a b*tch, fine.......... Don't try to make the rest of us to it buy into it.

This analysis is spot on.

We are overanalyzing this. Maybe next week in Gillette fans shouldn't be allowed to do things like hold up signs that say the Pats are going to win, or a sign with three rings on it, or a picture of the Lombardi because it's arrogant and ****y and it might offend the Redskins players. :bricks:

We need to stop being so damned sensitive. If this were a playgroup of three year olds, maybe there would be cause for concern. But this is football.

What bothers me most is when one of the Pats posters sinks to the level of the trolls. Never get into a pi**ing contest with a skunk! Ignore them and they'll go away.

This is a great site for intelligent football discussion. I've learned a lot. Why don't we keep it that way?

It is what it is.

I can't think of a bigger Indianapolis Colts fan then myself. I live and die with my boys. I've been flying to Indy every year since 1990. Sometimes two and three times. I've paid my dues and am enjoying the rewards now in the Manning era.

That being said... I can no longer visit a Colts message board I was a part of since 1997. Why? Because I don't wear rose colored glasses. I don't buy into "Spygate" and the "cheaters" argument. Maybe it's my backround in journalism but I look at both sides of sports debates and try to post my thoughts somewhere in the middle. Just because I bleed blue, doesn't mean I have to be forced into hating the Patriots and their organization.

Everytime I posted, there was someone their to call me out for being a "Chowd" or "Patriots ass kisser". It's absurd but that's the nature of the beast with fans and message boards. So I choose not to contribute anymore. Fans are passionate. I just wish more people could take one step back and argue the POINTS of the game, rather then exchange insults.

I may be wrong.

For every jerk who drifts on here with f*** all to say, and evidence of mental ******ation in saying it, there's someone here who jumps a relatively articulate guy who is respectful on first posting.

Think about it this way: read the post, flip the teams around, and think about how you'd feel about a poster's ideas if he were talking about the Patriots.

Granted, that doesn't work with the "Cheater"/"Asterisk" contingent, but those guys are pretty easily dispensed with.

One other phenomenon to note - someone who might be a great adjunct to the board, albeit for another team, could be pushed into utter ***holery if we're the ***holes first. When I see this it makes me cringe, because in lots of cases they come in toeing the line just fine, then deteriorate when they draw fire.

I agree, I've seen "our side" being ***holes to people that don't deserve. It's no excuse that "some of these trolls deserve it," when you're responding to one of the guys that doesn't.

But about the arrogance point, and acting like we're the ones responsible for the team's success... well of course we're not but we're fans. That's part of what fans do. If I could throw 27 TDs in the NFL (or, well, one,) I wouldn't really need to be a football fan anymore, would I? I get to pretend my great team is somehow an extension of me. That's the psychology of it for all of us, and I'll be damned if I'm going to get all real and realize these are likely the guys that took my goddam milk money in 3rd grade.

I have been reading alot of our threads especially those in which other teams fans come to join in friendly conversation.

I have to say that this season seems to bring out our worst.

our team is 7-0 and perhaps the best team in the NFL this year if not ever.

But the tone of our responses is extremely arrogant, demeaning, and bullying.

The problem is this really reflect bad on our ENTIRE FAN BASE. The Patriot players are responsible for the great season mates not us. Yet we thump our chest like we have some part in their success. I say we should start acting like the Patriot players do and respect our opponents.

We can surely find a way to tell Skin fans that we beleive the patriots will win without say "BECAUSE I SAID SO" or "HAVEN"T YOU WATCHED FOOTBALL".

MAN it is only week 8 - How will we be acting 6 weeks from now....

PS - If you are a fan from another team please refrain from posting - you should know by now your opinions may be discouinted

ouch, very ouch, that hit a spot...
