We've seen enough of the greatness, let's lock up Randy long term before he rides off into the sunset next season with some mega-deal from some other team. I don't expect the Pats to resign Stallworth simply because the Option dollars on his current deal are incredibly high. I see Chad Jackson slipping into Donte's spot next season.

Wouldn't they have to make some mid-season cuts and restructuring of some deals to make something happen before the off season?

They would, but they can structure the deal right now to take a small CAP hit this year and spread it out over 4 years.

If I were you, I'd probably want to see Moss locked into a long term contract before Snyder comes sniffing around willing to throw a ton of draft picks your way. He's an awesome player. Imagine what he could do in a Skins' uniform...

My guess is his contract gets extended for a few years before the season is over.

Don't think that's an option. They're not allowed to redo a contract twice in 1 year and since he's only on a 1 year contract he will have to become a free agent after the season ends and then the Pats can sign him.

No doubt about Snyder, but here's the funny thing, he wouldn't have to give up draft picks, Randy would be a UFA at the end of the year if we don't ink him up now, we can't let that happen.

stallworth i thought signed a multiyear contract. . I do not understand resigning stallworth comment.

if stallworth performs and gets cut i assure you that will be the end of deals like stallworth ,dillion, washington and even moss for the patriots. they could never say play 1 yr and prove your are worth your contract in the future.
30 million for a 26yr old stallworth with the cap growing is close to market value.

Moss - he might stay or he might leave but i think its once he gets his ring he might change his tone .too early to predict. One more the CBA will not allow more than 1 contract change in a year .Moss came over in his old contract and redid it alreay for this year.

You can keep imagining because it's not going to happen. Moss will be right along side Brady again next year.

I would hope so. And I don't think Moss would insist on breaking the bank, either. Moss seems to be genuinely enjoying football for the first time in a long time.

Here are the Stallworth details: Bottom line, big bucks......

For the Patriots to retain Stallworth for the 2008 season, they must pay him an option bonus of $6 million by Feb. 25, 2008. There is a subsequent roster bonus of $2 million due March 1, a second roster bonus of $1.6 million based on playing time, a base salary of $1 million and a $400,000 workout bonus. That totals an exorbitant $11 million for 2008, or a two-year total of $14.6 million.

To keep Stallworth for 2009, the Patriots would have to pay another option bonus, this one of $2 million, by Feb. 25 of that year. In terms of bonuses and base salary, the 2009 season would be worth $5 million to Stallworth, for a three-year total of $19.6 million.

20 million for stallworth for his services in the age of 26-29 is very good. He will be a productive WR who will be the goto guy when moss is out. He does have the skill and speed to do it.

You can compare this to colvin deal , colvin has been in the top 10 defensive players to pressure QB in the league for a few seasons and his contract will not be redone .Scott and BB are real good when it comes to contracts and do not fill them with empty numbers that causes problems. If you perform you get your money.

No way unless dillion like 2 yr of no production is shown that one gets cut.

Also, 6 million was offered to deion branch in 05 season and in 07 and above with cap increase he is a bargain.

Not much.....

Miguel has a breakdown of Stallworth :

Big bucks but not freaky big. Similar to what Branch turned down.

Thanks for that dollar grid. Bottom line is this, BB will not invest top dollars into 2 star wideouts, the CAP room just isn't there and I highly doubt both guys will be willing to take the home town discount. BB will have to choose which guy makes more sense for the long term and go with that guy and let Chad Jackson move into the other role.

Which begs the question in 2008 season
27 yr old stallworth vs 32 yr old moss for a 4 yr contract.

I agree, I love Stallworth and what he brings to the table as well as his age, he's still very, very young by NFL standards. But if the Pats pick up his option, I just can't there being any money left over for Randy Terradactle.

Huh? He wouldn't be any better in a Skins uniform than he would have been in Oakland. He's better because he has a HOF QB now. Campbell is hardly someone who is going to help Moss' numbers.

The problem with both Stallworth and Moss is that no one knows what will motivate them after the season. Stallworth's contract indicates that he wants to be paid. I am not sure if he will be quick to renegotiate. Moss may or may not be truly buying into the Pats' system. The problem is whether if he really is or he is trying to rehab his image for a new contract, he would be acting exactly like he is.

It will be interesting come the offseason what the Pats will do. Chad Johnson may be on the trade market too. Belichick likes the guy and I am sure Johnson would love to come here and win.
