Not much said recently about how his game has dropped. Didnt see him at all in the game v Miami . Can someone please tell me whats happened to him ? Was such a vital player in our D , now it seems his not even part of it although being healthy. Thanks. Abdul.

Re: Eugene Wilson !

He's been surpassed by Sanders.

Re: Eugene Wilson !

Yeah, I'm not sure his play has dropped since he hasn't been much for a few years now. He is what he is.

Re: Eugene Wilson !

He was great once, in his rookie year. I don't know what happened. INjuries; groin surgery, broken arm...I'm not sure.

Be nice if we had someone who was really agressive, fast and could make interceptions. Don't get enough ints back there.

Re: Eugene Wilson !

He hasn't been a vital player in our defense going on 3 years now. In '05 he sucked, without Rodney (well the whole secondary sucked until Hobbs and Hawkins jumped in), '06 he was up and down until he was IR'ed and this year he hasn't been anything special.

We're actually tied for the league lead in INTs right now.

Geno was solid in 2004 as well....

I think that is why we drafted Merriweather.;)

That's interesting. Course 3 of them are Seau's and one is Colvin's I think.

But still surprising.

And here I was giving you the benefit of the doubt and believing that you were referring to the Safety group with those comments.

I should have known...:bricks:

Wilson has not had a good year...he's been OK at times, maybe a little better than OK, but at other times the solid tackling that was in 03 and 04 has vaanished. When June Jones made large back to back runs last week, it was Wilson who failed at making the tackle on both runs. He flat out missed him on the first and on teh second, it seemed like he stopped him, but Jones somehow stayed up and bounced off of him for 4-5 more yards.
Meanwhile, Sanders has been a solid tackler and in position more to make plays. SO...Wilson has more or less been demoted. Given that in 05, he seemed lost with Harrison around and in 06, was on IR after some games, he has not come back strong as he should have,
Maybe he's already thought of where he could go as a FA...NY NY!!!

for a team having issues stopping the run the past few weeks, you would have thought his name would have come up more. But I agree with a majority with you that his overall level has dropped.

Even when I play Madden 08 he looks lost :)

Yeah, he did seem to get him on the second play. He tackled so bad that the league changed the rulebooks for that play alone and made it so eventhough Jones' elbow was clearly down, it wasn't down by contact.

People need to get this right already. Wilson made the tackle on the second tackle. The refs just blew the call because they didn't see Jones' elbow hit the ground which was clear on the TV replay. That isn't Wilson's fault. It was one of many bad calls and non-calls refs make on any given Sunday.

Unfortunately, if we are going to bench players for repeated poor tackling over the last two weeks, we would bench most of our starting defense. Heck, half of the starting defense missed tackling Marion Barber on that one play that should have been a safety which actually ended with Wilson making the tackle for a two yard gain.

Wilson is still a better coverage safety than Sanders. Sanders is just better right now close to the line of scrimmage. The last two weeks, we have been concerned about the run. That is probably why Sanders got the start over Wilson.

I noticed much more of Meriweather on Sunday. I think he played most of the 2nd half.

We have a good rotation of C+ and B players at Safety, none of them are without their warts. Wilson has missed a lot of tackles this year, BB is just trying to find the right matches. In reality they will all see a lot of action in a rotation.

Harrison - B+ - terrific in run support, difference maker as a blitzer, lost a step in coverage
Wilson - B- solid in coverage, misses tackles
Sanders - B- good tackler, caatious in coverage
Merriweather - C+ - very good tackler, lost in coverage

I believe Wilson is a free agent as the end of this season, so i think he's gone and Meriweather will step in to replace him.
I hope he becomes one of those Miami safeties (ed reed, sean taylor) who knows

Yea, he was on the field for 27 of 70 defensive snaps. So far in a reserve role he has 15 tackles with one tackle for loss.

Julius Jones. It's been a long time since June Jones ran the ball. Or threw it, for that matter.
