When Belichick had to bring Brady back into the game I felt at the time it was a message to his defense for standing around because they had such a big lead. What do you think?

Re: A message to the defense..

I think you're wrong.

Why?

Brady had already done his job for the day and then had to enter the game again because the defense was standing around sucking their thumbs.

what are you talking about? Did you watch the game? Belichick brought Brady back in after Cassell threw an INT for a touchdown. WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH THE DEFENSE? Should they have jumped onto the field to tackle.

He didn't trust the D with a 21 point lead. How's that?
He actually hit 2 birds with one stone on that one.

True...our defense allowed a one dimensional team with a QB who had only started 3 games to score 21 points and rush for 179 yards on us. Not very impressive.

Maybe, but what he actually said is "one more turnover (by the offense) and it's a 14 point game." That seems like he was more concerned with the offense turning it over causing points than the defense allowing points.

BB is a master of doublespeak....that is, when he does speak.
How many times have we seen BB heap praise on a player only to
cut him the very next day.

Believe me. Belichick was pissed at the D. Specifically the linebackers.

As Reiss mentioned today, we've basically been playing nickel and dime packages the last couple of weeks. With the huge leads we have, that's what we've had to do. So teams have been able to run the ball on us. Big whoop.

When it comes time to actually stop the run in a situation in which it matters, I think the D will be fine, particularly when Seymour returns.

Re: A message to the defense..

Belichick explained this fairly well on EEI. They put out a nickel defense because he knew the only shot Miami had at getting back in the game was by passing the ball. Miami decided to just play "their" game rather than throw it 40 times in the 2nd half, and while they had some success, it wasn't the kind of success they'd have had in a 0-0 ballgame against the base D either.

Re: A message to the defense..

I'm not sure it was only Brady that came out of the game either. I'm pretty sure I saw LeKevin and Pierre and some of the second team defence out on the field trying to hold down the fort.

Re: A message to the defense..

Let's keep in mind that this is the same Defense that held the Cowboys to 3 points for the remainder of the when they found themselves behind 24-21.

Whether it was designed to send a message to the offense, defense or NFL as a whole - only BB knows.

But this D can play well when it needs to - no question.

Messages?

And here I'm so foolishly thinking he put Brady in to make damn sure they wouldn't lose an away game to a division opponent.

No doubt in my mind about that.
I do keep forgetting that it seems the
worse the D was performing was when they
were defending a huge lead.
Hard to stop the run in a nickel package.
But BB still expects to see the D make tackles
and they were missing plenty.
So he he wanted to bust some balls.

Then why were Bru and Say-Ow!
yukking it up gleefully on the bench
with a lot of time still left in the 4th?
