Ok, lets break this down on who the pats have beat so far and the other teams defensive ranks.

Jets - 28
Chargers - 16
Bills - 31
Bengals - 29
Browns - 32
Cowboys - 7
Dolphins - 27

Average Defensive Rank = 24.28

Next Game:
Washington Redskins - Defensive Rank = 5 (8.8 yards away from being the #2 defense)

From a Redskin fan's perspective (mine), it looks like this might present a bigger challenge this week for the Pats. Am I delusional and think we have a chance with our decimated offensive line, not sure. If we had our starting offensive line, I think we could win. Do we deserve to be a 16 point dog, probably not IMHO.

Do these rankings mean anything to you? Post your thoughts. HTTR

I think it's safe to say the Skins defensive stats won't look as good come Monday.

They're your numbers, yet you didn't even seem to look at them...

The Cowboys are ranked seventh, we scored 48; the Browns are ranked last, we scored 34...This evidences a lack of correlation my friend. We were the number 2 defense in the league last year, and the Colts put 38 on us.

In today's NFL, good offense beats good defense. At least you'll have most of your sunday free to do yard work, shopping, etc.

I think the redskins defense have the linebackers and safetys to give us alot of looks. the linebackers can clog alot of the short passing lanes and i think you'll see landry in guite a few blitzes. should be interesting

tale away the yards the pats put up on those teams and we will have a more accurate assessment of those teams.

No, Not really........ Throw them all out, except Dallas (who has a comparable D - in ranking anyway). We hung 48 on them. You're offense isn't ANYTHING like Dallas's offense.

You're secondary is very good, but your front 7 is not as strong (as Dallas's). You won't get much pressure on Brady and he doesn't need our receivers to be open to have them catch the ball. You do realize we have Moss, right?

You have the same realistic chance that every other team we face does. The so called "any given Sunday" chance. NE is a better team then Washington. If we play well, execute and finish plays (O and D), we will win.

If it makes you feel better, I do see a margin of victory of about 14, significantly less then our average.

I sure hope they try blitzing their safeties. Tom and the Bunch will eat that up. Short pass out to Donte and let him take it to the house.

Unless you are planning to bet, I wouldn't pay attention to the point spread. I think you are answering your own question.

If the Pats have 10 offensive possessions with relatively good field position, you are going to get slaughtered regardless of how your defense plays.

If the Pats get 7 offensive possessions with most of them starting deep in their own end, you have a very real chance of pulling off the upset.

It is all on your offense. Clock-eating drives, no turnovers, control field position. I've seen quite a few Skins' games and they have the potential to do just that. I wouldn't bet my kids' college fund on it (even with 16 points) but you have reason to be hopeful.

are those "defensive ranks" before or after they have played the pats..?

if those are their ranks after they've played the pats, the high numbers only prove how good the pats offense is.

I do not think Gibbs is THAT stupid (I hope so though). We'll have to win this one honestly.

What is the injury status of Rogers and Smoot? I heard Rogers sprained his knee and Smoot re-injured his hammy last game. I would also wonder if Springs' mind is on the game of football with his father being gravely ill.

This is probably not the game where Skins fans would want to see their top 3 corners be ?

And how badly hurt is that Skins OL?

Springs will be at the game, if his dad doesn't pass. Rogers and Smoot will be ready for Sunday.

OL is in bad shape, still not giving up many sacks though. We've given up 9 sacks (#7 overall) and #1 has given up 4 sacks. Biggest problem with our OL isn't pass blocking, it's run blocking. Just to show you how bad it's gotten, we had to put back in an injured guy at RT or else it was going to be a 4th string defensive lineman playing offensive RT.

Thanks for the update.

Did either Smoot or Rogers finish up against Zona? If either are not 100% you gotta figure the Pats will test them early and often.

In your opinion who do you see matching up with Moss, Welker and Stallworth?

It is after all a fair question......... Take out the drubbing the Pats put on ALL these D's and the numbers might change a bit. You can say that because you haven't played us, yours are artificially inflated on the high side

For instance........ take San Diego (discounting our game).

Yds. per game - 307 (down to 11th from 16)
Pt's per game - 16.1 (down to 7th from 15)

How Bout Dallas.....

yds. per game - 270 (down to 4th from 7)
pt's per game - 18.3 (down to 13th from 21)

See what we mean, Math is fun.

------------------

Conversely, your Defense has faced 1 top 10 Offense (yds/game) this year, Philadelphia (#9, averaging 349/game). Your facing the #1 Offense averaging 80 yds more per game. We'll see how your defense does.

Our defense has faced 3 top 10 Offenses this year (Cowboys #2, Bengals #4 and Browns #7). I might add all three of those teams had fewer yds against our D then their average.

#1 - It's not a fair question, and this is why.

We are 4-2 because we have beaten 4 teams and lost to 2. I could quote foxsports.com and say what they said, how we are 2 plays away from 6-0, but i won't. Why? because we lost, so we are 4-2. Same goes for stats that could have been, should have been, would have been. They are what they are, just basic facts.

# 2 - The teams we played aren't a "Top 10" offense because they faced our D :)

Well, the only two decent teams you faced - You LOST. Oh yeah, and I heard the foxsports guys say that if it wasn't for all those points we scored, we'd be 0-7. Great argument

Whatever dude, I'm glad you have optimism for your team. You should, it's what fans should do. But you need not come in here and post BS numbers about how your team is gonna beat ours. WE ARE A BETTER team. We could lose, but we probably won't. We'll know next week. ;)

Either way, we invite you to come back Monday. I'd be surprised if you do.

Time for fun with numbers.

NE's opponents average allowing 26.6 ppg.

Even knocking the "Eff You" TD off of the scores, NE still averages 32.9 ppg in these matchups, meaning that they score 6.3 more than teams allow. Frankly, considering that NE has shut the offense down in most games, I probably should still count the other TD, but whatever.

But what is most remarkable is this fact: Extracting the NE game from their opponents season drops the ppg number to 20.4.

So NE alone is reponsible for a 30% increase in their season points allowed averages!

Tell us again why we should be worried about facing the Washington defense....

Santana Moss has had a quiet year thus far.
Let's hope it stays quiet after sunday, their other receivers don't scare me.
They have a good football player in Cooley...
They will try to pound the ball with CP while trying to protect their young QB and keep him out of 3rd and long situations.

I think Taylor can be over-aggressive at times and loves going for the kill shot.
With Stallworth & Moss biting on play action could easily mean 6
Landry is a very good young safety. But he's just that, young, going up against one of the best at looking off safeties.
So while both are very physically gifted, they are going to have a hard dealing with staying back in coverage deep all day. If for whatever reason, they are not deep... You know how that story ends.

If they do play good disciplined deep safety defense, expect welker to have a field day again... And our TE in the middle... kyle brady big day? Rivers?
