Shaun King: Indy's Defense better BY FAR

Re: Shaun King:Indy's Defense better BY FAR

Patriots 274.9 yards per game.
Colts 278.2 yards per game.

Patriots 17.1 points per game.
Colts 17.6 points per game.
Keep it up! Thru five games the Colts have faced pop gun offenses as evident by the fact their opponents were missing their best weapons:

Houston - Andre Johnson
Denver - Javon Walker
Tampa Bay - Cadillac Williams

Need some more statistical evidence the Patriots defense is superior?

The Colts are playing tonight. Let's all wait until after the game before attacking Colts supporters for daring to defend their team in a respectful manner. At least then it will only be one week too early for the nonsense. Sheesh. Bash the trolls, not the respectful opposing fans.

Stats wise it's basically a push. It's something like 4 yards and 1/2 point per game.

I don't know what he is talking about special teams wise. Our coverage units have been really lacking.

Yeah, I'm not screaming from the mountaintop the that the Colts' defense doesn't belong in the same rank as the Pats. But the "better than NE by far" business is just silly.

The Patriots' special teams, meanwhile, look the best they have in years.

Re: Shaun King:Indy's Defense better BY FAR

I've been watching Colvin and it seems that since he got nicked up, he hasn't been the same coming off the edge. Usually, he just engages with the tackle that slides out to him and that's it. I guess if the QB tries to run he can disengage so this weak rush doubles as containment, but I thought we'd see him make the blocker work harder. Hopefully, he's playing rope-a-dope for the Colts game and BB will have him come up the gut, from both OLB spots and other twists the coaching staff is saving for that game.

Regards,
Chris

The Colts defense has played 3 games in which their opponents are in the bottom quartile of scoring offenses.

Tampa Bay #24
Denver #26
New Orleans #27

Those are stats? Nearly every team is playing injured. It's not like the Pats have played a whole lot of offensive juggernauts and everyone was full strength.

I agree, but to say the Colts D sucks is too much the otherway.

Does any freakin' Colts fan do any freakin' research whatsoever?

The New England Patriots have already faced three of the top five scoring offenses in the NFL:

Dallas #3
Cleveland #4
Cincinnati #5

Re: Shaun King:Indy's Defense better BY FAR

Patriots 274.9 yards per game.
Colts 278.2 yards per game.

Patriots 17.1 points per game.
Colts 17.6 points per game.

NE's opponent's average ppg: 23.7
NE points allowed average: 17.1

NE Differential: +6.6

Indy's opponent's average ppg: 19.5
Indy points allowed average: 17.6

Indy Differential: +1.9

You were saying?

Not only that, but Indy has faded these lower tier offenses when they were even more depleted than normal. For all the talk about the lousy defenses NE has faced, Indy has faced offenses just as bad, if not worse.

Nah...over on Indy Star they are spoonfed stepford type drivel by IU, and at the first sign of dissent Jilla launches a series of pom pom threads to distract even the few reasonable posters left like horse.

I've got no problem at all with you debating him. However, there are only about 2 Colts posters who aren't trolls, and we shouldn't insult those rare creatures when they aren't being disrespectful. He's not wrong in his numbers and you're not wrong in your numbers: you're both simply arguing from a different set of numbers. It's why I mentioned tonight. It's entirely possible that the Jaguars will change the numbers and make things easier to compare.

Do you read my posts before responding? I said "whole lot", not "any". BTW, since you are so big on injuries, the Bengals were without Rudi and Cleveland was basically without Lewis. And Cleveland and Cincy have numbers that are skewed by that game that they scored 100 combined.

Re: Shaun King:Indy's Defense better BY FAR

i read this whole thread, and i gotta say....u both bring up good points, but i thinks its undeniable taht the pats D is BETTER then the colts D, im not saying by a lot or by a little, but its just better...

King needs some evidence to make an argument, if he hasnt learned that yet...well...hes known...maybe an elementary school somewhere in teh nation will take him in...

Most Colt Fans on the PatsFans message board denigrate the New England Patriots THIS season based upon the result of last year's AFC Championship Game. The Patriots were missing the following defensive players in the aforementioned game:

Eugene Wilson (injured reserve)
Rodney Harrison (injured reserve)
Randall Gay (injured reserve)
Junior Seau (injured reserve)

Thus, the Patriots were missing three of their top five defensive backs which incidentally are all healthy this year.

Furthermore, for some unknown reason Corey Dillon was AWOL in the fourth quarter of the 2006 AFC Championship Game.

Funny how the Colt fans ignore the fact the following players were added to the Patriots roster via trade or unrestricted free agency:

Adalius Thomas
Randy Moss >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Reche Caldwell
Dante Stallworth >>>>>>>>>>> Jabar Gaffney
Wes Welker >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Troy Brown

This your quote:

"It's not like the Pats have played a whole lot of offensive juggernauts and everyone was full strength."

Actually that statement is more the case for the Colts opponents this year than the Patriots.

While the Cincinnati Bengals were missing Rudi Johnson the Patriots were missing Laurence Maroney. That's an even loss, first string running back for first string running back. If you think otherwise, then refer to rushing totals of the two running backs from the previous meeting of the two teams.

Funny how the Dallas Cowboys were fully armed against the New England Patriots. As for Cleveland, Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow both played against the New England Patriots.

Re: Shaun King:Indy's Defense better BY FAR

I think we can all agree, though, that King's assertion that Indy's defense is "better by far" than the Pats' is probably impossible to justify based on objective measures.

Facing three of the top five offenses in the NFL is not a whole lot? The Patriots will face the number two offense in the Indianapolis in two weeks. Thus, the Patriots in their first nine games will have faced 4 out of 5 top offenses in the NFL.

You forget that they face the league's #1 offense EVERY WEEK in practice! :D That's gotta take a lot out of ya.

Let's face it, aside from Champ Bailey, no cornerback in the NFL can cover Randy Moss one on one. In addition, I'll take the Patriots cornerbacks any day of week over the vastly overrated Colts cornerbacks.
