Just heard this from ESPN"s Shaun King. He said that he would pick the Pats offense, but that Indy was very close. But that Indy's defense was by far better and that Indy also had the better special teams.

I stand by the fact that NE's D has not been playing lights out by any means, but saying Indy's D is "By far" better is a little much I think. He also claims that if you take away Wilfork and AD that the D is made up of guys who accomplished things earlier in their careers but are not athletic anymore. Have to disagree with this and wonder if King actually watches these games.

Re: Shaun King:Indy's Defense better BY FAR

clearly the man is a moron.

Re: Shaun King:Indy's Defense better BY FAR

Shaun King practiced every week against a St. Dungy defense.

But that Indy's defense was by far better and that Indy also had the better special teams.

How many kickoffs have Indy returned for TD's? Gost has made everything since Week 2. Hanson has been great in the past two games. Jeez, try not to be such a homer Shaun King. Why are you on ESPN anyway? Rohan Davey is avaliable.

What's that saying...opinions are like *******s, everyone has one.

Re: Shaun King:Indy's Defense better BY FAR

King's just pissed that in his entire career he was unable to thrown more TD's than Brady has thrown in just 7 games this year. :p

If he had, he probably would have noticed:
Asante Samuel 3 int
Junior Seau 3 int, 1 sack
Mike Vrabel 4 sacks
Jarvis Green 3 sacks
Rosie Colvin 2 sacks, 2 fumb
Randall Gay 2 int, 1 fumb
etc.

...so I'm guessing he doesn't. :)

Indy can't stop the run-'nuff said.

Re: Shaun King:Indy's Defense better BY FAR

Does anyone care that about half of the points scored against the Pats count as garbage time points? Seriously, when you're up 28 points all you're looking to do is play vanilla and remove the big play from the equation. A long, time-consuming TD drive by the opposition is almost as good as if it were your own.

The Pats' D has been dominant when there's actually a game afoot. Look at the first half of every game, and look at the second half against Dallas (right after they enjoyed a short-lived lead) when the 'Boys got absolutely locked down.

Oh, and two defensive scores.

In all honest, how does anyone know how good the Pats' defense really is. We have only been behind once all season in the second half and we are in a lot of soft defenses with a lot of nickel and dime in the second half.

All of this would be a reasonable counter to a reasonable claim. But the claim is so unreasonable that you don't even need to go that far.

Indy's defense is better BY FAR...except that they're giving up more yards. And more points.

Re: Shaun King:Indy's Defense better BY FAR

Heh. Well most of the time their is only one "correct" opinion so logically speaking most opinions are probably wrong and hence stink. :p But let me say that our defense hasn't looked great but we don't have Seymour back yet.

That guy is a team changer.. When will he come back and how is he doing? those are the questions I have.

Pete

Re: Shaun King:Indy's Defense better BY FAR

He couldn't recognize defenses when he was playing, why should he start now?

Re: Shaun King:Indy's Defense better BY FAR

This is great. BB is going to say to the defense: "Based on your last performance, people are saing INDY has a better D than you guys."

I can't think of a bigger insult or bigger motivator to the Pats D. :D

Stats wise it's basically a push. It's something like 4 yards and 1/2 point per game.

I don't know what he is talking about special teams wise. Our coverage units have been really lacking.

The vast majority of yards and points scored against the Pats D have come in garbage time. They seem to have the ability to suddenly turn it on when they get angry.

Hopefully somebody will seriously challenge the Patriots and we'll get to see how good they really are (especially after we get our defensive player back from injury).

I'm going to be seriously shocked if, faced with a serious opponent, our Defense doesn't behave like one of the top two units in the league.

I expect (and kind of hope) that the Colts will hang with the Patriots long enough for us to get a genuine sense of how good our defense is.

As far as SK goes, he has been dreadful, and should be canned. Only the presence of Emmitt Smith mitigates my contempt for SK. In recent weeks NFL Live tried out another commentator sitting where SK often sits. The replacement was far more cogent and offered genuine analysis (but seemed to be adjusting to the teleprompters). I'd like to think that SK's days are numbered.
