Good quote about the Patriots' Wes Welker from a scout I talked to. "They found another Troy Brown. He's what Brown gave them eight years ago." Welker might be the best receiver I ever saw adjusting to hot reads. The really good ones have to be well enough timed up with the QB so they know exactly where to be, and then they have to be prepared to make the awkward catch, since the pass will be thrown under duress. Welker not only does that, but he can also put a move on a defender to make him miss, as he's making the tough grab. He saved their ass against the Cowboys. Sure, Brady was terrific but Welker was my MVP of the game.

How could the Dolphins have let him go? When they drafted Ted Ginn in the first round, they said they wanted someone who could move the chains and return kicks for them. Hey, they had one already, His name was Wes Welker. Actually Cam Cameron saw him, once in Miami, once in San Diego.

There will be games when Welker absolutely cleans up.

Dr. Z was partially right when he said that Welker saved us on Sunday. The management decision to get Welker months ago was what really saved them. What saved them Sunday was that they knew how to build a team with good underneath presence with a very smart receiver.

The Pats got Welker particularly to neutralize the cover-2 defense like the one the Colts employ. When an offense has a top notch slot receiver like Welker it puts tremendous pressure on cover-2 safeties and allows the offense to control or dictate the defensive coverages that are employed.

Wes Welker in the slot will mean that Bob Sanders won't be in our backfield anymore. What's more if Sanders is doubling up Welker then Moss (or Stallworth) is/are likely open outside.

Hopefully... Oh, and having to worry about Moss and Stallworth instead of Reche and Gaffney as the main threats just might help too. :)

yes, i see welker as being are go to guy, sure we have the amaizng catcher in moss, and i see stallworth as being the guy who gets the small catches to go the long way himself...

but welker is the X factor...u cant cover him without a cb, and when u use a CB, the running game will dominate

I assumed that all of us already knew this stuff... but, yeah, Welker is good.

Funny how insightful Dr. Z found that scout's observation a few days ago.

64 posters right here said EXACTLY the same thing the moment Welker was signed.

This is why I tend to go easy on the Dolphins...

They're like a JV team that good players "graduate" from to join the Patriots.

I wonder how many Fin fans are still insisting we got ripped off on the Welker trade?

You mean Aquagay and his ilk?:D
