Patriots offense looks like its never looked before, sure the pats would most likely still be 6-0 with #81 but lets take a closer look at what Randy is doing to most defenses. The TV does not show what is really going on, it only shows the snap/o-line area at hand. Randy Moss was being covered like paper on glue, the safety's rolled out to his location when cowboys played double nickel and in their 2 front zone blitzs..the weak side DB blitz was just a decoy and would follow randy moss throughout the game..Moss has *always* 2 bodies on him and for alot of the game, 3 bodies!!! How easy can it get for tom brady when Welker is being covered by LB's and then zone once he gets past them, and donte stallworth 1 on 1, those two guys only see double coverage when they run into a zone that is cross-patterned by a randy moss route OR in the redzone. I was at the game and I must tell you guys, which im sure you already know,Moss is a huge asset. Moss will never get more then a TD or 40-60yds with the way defenses are covering him, and if he does, it'll be on a brady bomb that moss fingertips. I am a Cowboys fan but Ive loved Randy since day one, its just amazing on the conflicts he can create.

Yup, he's as responsible for Welker's and Stallworth's success as the O-line is to Brady's success.

The only weird thing about it is that he seems totally OK with that. :)

yea, and dont get me wrong..Welker is amazing with Run After Catch, he has great hands and can run routes diligently, Stallworth is also great RAC and is very strong and pesky. Tom Brady is more accurate then what you could ever ask for in a NFL Quarterback. But the truth is, with defenses covering Moss like they do, it will be hard for everybody. He can impact a game with 0 catches and 0 yards.

And that, I imagine (as per Reiss) is why he's been in there on 83 per cent of offensive snaps (338) compared to Welker's 231 and Stallworth's 224.

NOTHING teams are doing ... is stopping Moss

Glad you enjoyed Randy's personal performance.
You were conflicted, so perhaps didn't enjoy it QUITE as much as we did.

The strange thing is ... however accurately you are describing the intense coverage he draws ...
it's only because of other accidents
that Moss' numbers are "down".

Two bombs overthrown after #81 had beaten that coverage.
The (correctly-reversed) tip-toe touchdown.
The TD annulled by a phantom offensive PI call.

Gotta agree with you. That man is unreal.
But nothing even a top team like the Cowboys is doing ... is stopping Moss.

Not that weird, since the Pats are winning. That was probably part of his frustration in Oakland, in that he was doing the same thing- drawing 2 or 3 defenders, yet the Faiders kept losing.

i guess your right psychoPat, he would of had alot more yards if brady connected..the pats are a complete team though, i really dont see them losing in the playoffs unless key players get injured. hopefully we will see you guys again soon ! ;)

Well the difference with the Raiders is that they A) don't have a good QB B) don't have a good OL for pass protection and C) don't have good receivers that will make plays when Moss is drawing those double/triple teams.

Which adds up to D) Moss getting demoralized and playing like crap in Oakland.

IN New England, Moss is just another weapon in the quiver that Tom Brady draws from, a Class A weapon, but still he is not the only playmaker on this offense. And as long as this offense is scoring and the team is winning I think that Moss is just fine with that.

We have a running game right now where any decent running back can gain 4-5 yards per carry. That is also all about Randy Moss. Teams are playing us back away from the LOS. They have no choice.

We went thru a lot of years with a screen play passing game due to a lack of skill players and a shoddy run game due to the crowd at the LOS.

Randy helps make every aspect of our offense MUCH better.

Thanks for posting an intelligent post. We don't always get those from other team's fans, especially after a game!

I imagine Wes Welker is developing into an incredibly frustrating and irritating aspect of the Pats offense. All those other guys demanding attention and Welker not only floating around for check-downs and going across the slot, but then turning and twisting and grinding out 3 or 4 or 5 extra yards a lot of times.

I remember how INFURIATING it was watching Chrebet always open or a last-second outlet, seeming to always get a few extra yards with canny running and hustling. Nice to have our own faster, superior version.

I realize what you mean by saying Moss is just another of our weapons, but I think that understates the situation a lot. As this Dallas poster suggests, Moss is essentially making our whole offense work better.

The reason he is always on the field and the reason we take wild bomb shots down the field at Moss is because we are reminding the other team that they cannot take their eyes off Randy for a single play or we will take a wild shot down the field.

That means our running game works better, it means Welker catches way more balls, it means Stallworth has time to ease into his role, it means Gaffney is completely forgotten by the other team. It means Kevin Faulk could be our running back and we'd still have a run game.

Moss is WAY more than just another weapon. Yeah, we do have other guys that are pretty good. But Moss is to WRs what Brady is to QBs. The best of the best. We don't have any other players at any position that define their position in the way that Moss and Brady define WR and QB.

Moss has a chance with NE to write himself a ticket to the HOF, if he sticks around and stays healthy.

In Moss and Brady you have the ultimate WR who shifts the formations of defenses...and the ultimate QB to find the holes and openings that are a result of that shift. Its probably a very, very helpless feeling for defensive coordinators right now.

Re: NOTHING teams are doing ... is stopping Moss

Some people(few) have said that Wes Welker was the best addition this offseason but hands down it has been Moss. The offense would be nowhere near as successfull as it is right now without Randy.

Lets not forget Moss could have had about 180 yards again last week and 3 TDs had Brady not overthrown him on a couple of bombs because Moss was open ready to catch the ball and stride right into the endzone.

I would seriously question the football knowledge of anyone who would say that. The presence of Randy Moss opens up holes for the slot receiver more than it does for any other WRs or the running backs. Welker has obviously been great nonetheless, but when you don't have to worry about safeties it definetely makes your job easier.

lol......welker is the perfect compliment to moss/stalwothrt and vica versa

There's no doubt Randy Moss creates huge problems for opposing defenses, and he's been a very good addition to NE's 2007 roster. That being said Wes Welker was double teamed on his first TD, split the double team and ran right by both DB's, so I wouldn't say all of his success is coming against LB's or single coverage because Moss is taking all the coverage with him.

He's had quite the effect on NE's offense but Welker and Stallworth are talented enough that opposing defenses can't always just double and triple Randy.

I think what you'll start seeing about around week 9-10 is teams mixing the double coverage on Randy, not doing it on every drive or on the majority of drives, which has been the case the past 2 weeks, particularly against Cleveland.

You know what's great about DCs saying, "Let's make Stallworth and Welker beat us"? They do.

Exactly.

There's no effective gameplan for this offense. You need 2 guys to cover Moss. Welker and Watson demand more than LB coverage. Stallworth can outrun 95% of the corners in this league. No matter where you focus your attention, you're gonna get beat somewhere.

"The best defense is a good offense." Defending us reminds me of our brilliant gameplan against the Colts in the playoffs of 2004. Unfortunately for opposing teams this year, we have a very good defense as well.

"The best defense is.....a forfeit?"
