There were 2 seperate episodes to prove my point that either Jim Mora is getting Altzheimer's disease or he is just plain dumb or not paying attention to what he is getting paid for - To follow and comment on NFL Games

Earlier this week he was asked on what he thought if NE and Dallas were to meet again and he said "Of Course they will" and then he was interrupted by the other commentator (forgot his name) who said "You mean the Super Bowl?" to which Mora quickly came back to say "Yes,The 2 conference leaders meeting again" - It appeared to me that Mora was not thinking these 2 teams had different conferences the delay in which he made his response.

The other comment Mora made was when he was asked what he thought of Vinny Testeverde having a great game in his comeback and he said "Yes,Vinny looked great,he now plays for...uh,uh - is it the Carolina Panthers?"

His excuse about not knowing Vinny was playing at was because so many players have changed teams this year its getting confusing to follow where everybody is going.

If thats the case then I am confused as to why the NFL Network continues to keep a guy not focused on or at least informed of what goings on are happening in the NFL.

Mora stinks as much as he was Saints and Colts coach - If only the Philadelphia Stars of the USFL were still around

He also said he had the Pats ranked #1 in his power ranking and when they popped up he said 'I mean the Colts' and talked about how the champ has to be un-seated

I don't think it's alzheimer's, though. (Maybe he SHOULD check to see if he can smell bananas just to be sure, though.) I think it's his schedule. He's on there all the time, sometimes late at night and then again early in the afternoon. I think his sleep schedule is messing with him. I know mine is messing with me and he's pretty much on everytime I watch.

I know that it was meant to be a joke, but couldn't

you have used a description other than "altzheimers"

in your thread title?

I think a lot of 50+ men cringed when they read this.....Not taking a shot, but it was insensitive, imo.

I didn't even notice. So what does that mean? :bricks:

It means, a lot of people who are on the other side of 50 have noticed that their memory is not what it once was. Calling out their children's names right down the list till they get the right child. Having a parent who is often confused even though they can tell you historical events to a tee. Seeing a friend who no longer recognizes you. That is what it means, next question.

Yikes I didn't at all intend my comment to be taken that way. My sincere apologies.

Just as a point of reference, the smelling bananas thing is legit. There was a study done recently that indicated people with alzheimer's have trouble with that smell. (Apparently that study also indicated lemon and cinammon might be an issue.) http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2007-07-02-4133219052_x.htm (I read the study elsewhere but think this link talks about it.)

Just wanted anyone to know there was no malice intended and half of what I said was completely serious.

Altzheimer's !? Altzheimer's !? Dont talk to me about Altzheimers I'm just trying to analyze a game!

ROFL For my money the Mora meltdowns (there's a good one from his time in Norl as well) are the best ever. I wish I owned an NFL team just to hire the guy, frankly. And if he said no... then Mariucci. (Maybe Harrington would be my quarterback. Muahahaha)

Hell, I'm 19 and I kinda cringed. :(

Ummm, puh-leeeze.

Quit the politically-correct over-sensitivity and learn to laugh.

Becoming forgetful is part of getting old...alzheimers or not.

It's OK to point it out when a sportscaster might be going south in the memory department and make a joke about it.

Lighten the heck up.

I agree about lighten up part

C'mon how many of us have heard this joke a zillion times...

What advantage does a person with Altzheimers have over other people at Easter?

Answer: They can hide their own easter eggs

My father and father-in-law both had it....and I wasn't laughing.

It'sh probably for the shame reashon they keep showing that shtupid commercial with Shingletary exshplaining what took plashe in his huddew while Cowher whimpers like a 5 year old that lost his Tonka Toy.

Stay away from aluminum if you want to have a good memory then... aluminum is the main cause of altzheimer's.

Ever since hearing that I discontinued using antiperspirants that contain aluminum chlorhydrate.

And barley pop cans are made of what?

exactly...

if you drink, bottles are a better choice.

OK... enough of my rant.

The cause of Alzheimer's is unknown. And people need to either learn to take a joke or shut themselves up in a home without access to the outside world. Despite what the politically correct crowd would have you believe, there is no right not to be offended.

Apparently the original poster has never listened to a game on WBCN. Gil and Geno forget things at 10x the rate Mora does. But focusing on the mistakes misses the point, people that age are still doing what they do because their talents and experience is valuable and usually far outweighs their negatives.

And yes, forgetfulness is part of getting older, but people who immediately mention Alzheimer's are just showing their ignorance. All older people eperience increased memory problems, but Alzheimer's is a much bigger deal that eventually involves the entire body. The reason so many people are sensitive about it is it's a long horrible process to witness and many here have been through it. My own mother died of it, years ago, at a very young age compared to most. The night of the Super Bowl, oddly enough.
