Why does everyone think Dallas is the best of the NFC?

After watching the Dallas game I did not come away with the feeling that Dallas is the best team in the NFC.

As a matter of fact I am not so sure they are even the best team in the NFC East!

The Redskins have a solid defense and a young promising QB in Campbell who has shown everything positive you could want in a starting QB,The WR corp is very fast and the running game is adequate

The Giants have shown tenacity on defense since they were buried in their first 2 games - Manning to Burress is a lethal combo and Droughns has given them a very good rushing attack in the pre-Tiki days

As long as the Eagles have Westbrook, a quick elusive wideout in Curtis and a smothering secondary,they are always dangerous.

Going on to the other teams from the NFC its Green Bay with an unbelievable ageless Favre and Minnesota with possibly the next great RB in Adrian Peterson (reminds me of Emmitt Smith in his rookie season) who may be strong contenders as well

You have the surprising Tampa Bay Bucs with another QB that does not realize his days should be over but still playing great with Jeff Garcia.

New Orleans is far from done,That dismantling of Seattle was very impressive

I am sure I am leaving out a few others that can make a sudden turn for the better like Chicago,Seattle ect...

I say Dallas won't make it to the dance - Romo is not trustworthy for continuous solid efforts,Crayton drops too many balls,T.O. is still a near no show in most big games,Barber is a good RB but can't do it all,that secondary scares no one and Ware is the only true danger on the front 7.

So this bears my question...

WTF Is everyone putting Dallas as the likely NFC Rep in the Super Bowl?

I for one don't understand why they stand out among the NFC like many think - IMO the NFC is a parity driven as in any year I have seen.

One more thing is that I believe that only 11 teams have played each other in the regular season and went on to play each other in the Super Bowl - Thats 11 out of 41 - Its only a stat but its a interesting one.

You can't be serious with some of these suggestions... Philly has looked god awful so far. They'd have to have a complete turnaround for them to even get to .500 on the season. The Redskins should be very good on paper but are still a very error prone team. The Cowboys beat the tar out of the Giants in Week 1 and even with the Giants mini-run they're still a sketchy team at best. New Orleans has the worst secondary, one of the worst linebacking corps and just an overall awful defense to go with their offense which has shown up in one game so far. Tampa Bay just traded for Michael Bennett to be their starter. Green Bay doesn't have a running game either but is a pretty clear #2 in the East.

Romo has his problems but he's as good as any QB in the NFC. They have a strong running game, solid O-line, good receivers, a top TE, one of the best pass rushes in the game and pretty good run stopping. They have secondary problems but so does all but like 5 teams in the league.

You can't go by what happened earlier in the season like in your reference to the Giants Dallas game.

Some of the good teams right now will stumble and some of the bad teams will arise up-it ALWAYS happens year after year.

Just like San Diego in the AFC who looked like crap early but are starting to put themselves back together and may be looking more like an elite team by late this season

Beware of the Giants, everyone-since their abysmal 0-2 start, instead of quitting on Coughlin(yet again), they've played with alot of heart since being spotted 17-3 @Wash. The combo of Jacobs/Ward has emerged as a 2-headed monster(and Tiki is not missed b/c of this), Eli is finally reading D's alot quicker, Aaron Ross is every bit the blue-chip corner they've hoped to be, the D is FINALLY responding to their new, albeit more aggressive DC, and even though it's been a long 3 years, the players are finally responding to Coughlin's philosophies(don't know why it took so long).

As much as I hate to say it-the Giants could emerge as the team to beat in the NFCE. It seems like Tiki was ALOT more than cancer in that G-men's locker room(they just look more focused this year.

An emotional fanbase means the fans are excited every season for a winning team and thats what every owner wants - Fans that believe their team can win it all every year.

It picks up sales on merchandise,Fills the seats and makes it hard to play at the home stadium when the fans are going bonkers.

Its all good for the organization to have that kind of effect on its fans every season instead off fans like the Bengals,Lions and Cardinals fans who just expect the worse to happen to the season shortly once the opening game kicks off

Coughlin's Giants teams start fast and fade late in the season due to attrition from the "Camp Coughlin" effect. That they started out so crappy was, I think, kind of a red flag.

As for Washington, I think they're slowly falling apart. They've got an old defense and O-line, and that O-line has already taken some big hits, and they've already used their bye. That Skins offense is pretty ho-hum, and with one more injury to the O-line, it will fall apart a la St. Louis.

I see no reason to pick against the Cowboys right now, especially in the East.

When it really comes down to it its all about coaching imo. I just heard Wade Philips say his game plan sunday was to take away our running game,and make Brady,and the recievers beat them. He said he was Challanging the Pats passing attack.With him as the coach making critical decisions Dallas may not be the best down the road at crunch time.

The NFC is awful, so I easily put Dallas in the top slot. Washington is intriguing as Campbell doesn't look half bad and the D is frisky, but I don't think they are overall better than Dallas. Green Bay and Tampa are also intriguing for the same reasons...good play from old QBs and better-than-expected play from the D, but I also don't think they're better than Dallas. Philly and the Giants just don't do it for me.

Right now, the pecking order in the NFL is something like:

NE
Indy
(big gap)
Pitt
(small gap)
Dallas, Jacksonville, San Diego (pick your order)
Tennessee, Washington (pick your order)
Green Bay, Tampa (pick your order)
(all of the rest)

I've put four of the top five teams in the AFC with three of them clearly above everyone else and two of them miles above everyone else. The top of the NFC fills out the bulk of the 6-10 rankings.
