SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- A future Super Bowl champion may someday be crowned overseas in a game witnessed predominantly by a foreign audience, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said.

"There's a great deal of interest in holding a Super Bowl in London," Goodell told reporters Monday. "So we'll be looking at that."

The commissioner said London's new Wembley Stadium would make a great candidate for pro football's biggest matchup, given the enthusiasm overseas for the game.

Considering that England are a full five or six hours ahead of us, what time will the SB start over there? Midnight locally? :bricks:

Worst idea ever.

Horrible idea IMO.

Not all that smart...Good-hell is pushing this international thing WAY WAY too much..I think teams will take a few weeks to adjust back... NOT good if you really want top notch football...

Talk is cheap. Thank God.

Regards,
Chris

Why don't we move the White House while we're at it. ************, it's OUR sport it should be played in OUR country - is that too much to ask ?

Badell SUCKS.

Worst idea ever.

Well, as long as the stadium is filled with American fans, and the broadcast jives with American time, I don't have a problem with it.

I think that's a lousy idea. You're just forcing those wealthy enough to afford the SB to buy an extra plane ticket. It would probably still end up with a predominantly American audience. And how would Californians get to watch it? They'd have to be up at 10am

Although I don't like it, I'd MUCH rather have the SB overseas than a regular season game since HFA should be a push in the SB anyway.

I don't really see the point...they're 6 hours ahead, and I'm from England lol. I realize this is to expand ratings, but until there is some genuine interest from them in the games they already have access to it doesn't make sense to force it on them at the expense of American fans.

I'll be in favor of a SB in London as soon as they host the FA Cup Final in the Rose Bowl.

this makes me wonder what this sport would look like if it were played internationally. And I don't just mean Canada and Mexico. I'm talking overseas, where people would have to watch their teams games at all crazy hours of the day, every week they go to play in some foreign stadium.

I'm all for expanding a little bit and making the game appeal to audiences outside America, but this is getting ridiculous.

He's such a dork.

But all the tickets go to league, network, and sponsor insiders anyway
... to be re-sold to gullible fans on e-Bay with no capital gains tax paid.
Given this ...
aside from the start time, which like overseas Olympics, can flex to suit USA tv ...
who cares ?

if a fa cup is soccer, please don't!

excellent point
goddell just wants to make his own mark on the game. rozelle/tags made football leapfrog over baseball in popularity here.

maybe jolly roger thinks he can make football more popular than soccer worldwide. good luck with that.

How about 7pm London time?

That means it starts at 2 PM Eastern time. SB's usually start around 6:30. Good news is the networks will fight this.

This is a brutal idea. I am a canuck and I don't want it up here, even though I want it up here...:)

The NFL is an American sport, and the Superbowl is an American Day, in my eyes. It is almost like a pseudo holiday really, even though it is on a Sunday. Leave it there for the fans.....this London idea is a dumb one

This has been talked about longer than Goodell has been comish. Even Mr Kraft has been pushing hard for this foreign market. It's all for the money and no other reason. The players don't want this and the fans don't want this, but the NFL pushes it anyways. I think it is wrong to pursue this for many reasons.I'm not sure what fans can do to stop this as they seem hell bent to get this done....

There's such a simple solution to this crap.

Have the useless pro bowl in a different foreign city every year.

The players get the European vacation for the wife and I really don't think the people in Albania are going to know the difference in the quality of football.

They'll never do it, it makes too much sense.
