Seymour, Chad Jackson and Troy Brown can begin their practice windows today. Were all 3 to return, that means 3 cuts from the 53. I don't think that will happen. Given our RB injury status, Kyle Eckle no longer looms as a certain cut. It's interesting to speculate what will happen. All I can say is I think it likely that the Pats will likely take a bit more time bringing Big Sey back.

EDIT: I forgot that Eddie Jackson CB is also on PUP

I don't think Seymour is ready and I don't see aplace for another WR on the roster, so I doubt anything happens. Barring a WR injury, Sey might be the first move, but his medical status is a complete mystery (as usual).

IIRC they can also wait three weeks to start their 21 day window. It makes more sense to wait the three weeks to guard against injury ( to the existing WR)and if they start practicing by the end of week 9, you've got until week 12 to IR or activate them. This seems the most prudent and practical way to handle the WR and protect if one of the big three were to go down, assuming that either or both of Brown/ Jackson were ready to play. It also ignores the fact that Welker and Brown play the same slot position.
Food for thought.

heard on weei today pats players..think rodney and wilfork...that they cant wait for seymour to be back...that seymour is fresh and ready.

I agree that they are going to take their time with Seymour. When he is ready I don't think anyone is going to lose sleep over cutting S.Thomas or L.Smith or even Kareem Brown (S.Thomas was active over him the first few weeks when both were healthy).

The Troy Brown issue is going to be interesting. While Washington has done nothing on offense, he hasnt been asked too. He has made numerous tackles on special teams and seems to have carved out role for himself especially with Mitchell being hurt and Baker being a healthy scratch for most of the season. While every fan knows how much Brown has meant to the organization is there a role for him this reason? I certainly don't seem him getting any WR snaps and with his age and injuries its hard to believe he will be playing special teams. So with Gaffney and Washington doing little on offense as well the question would be who they have more confidence in if there is an injury. At this point I would hang onto Washington and Gaffney.

I don't think you see eddie or Chad Jackson practicing until week 9 just so they can keep their options open with them until week 12. Troy and Seymour will probably begin practicing as soon as they are able which I hope is this week.

In my eyes any of the fallowing players could find themselves without jobs soon:

Santonio Thomas
Le Kevin Smith
Jabar Gaffney (least likely of the bunch in my opinion)
Kelley Washington (has his his own problems with injuries and staying on the field)
Mel Mitchell
Rashad Baker

I'd have Eckel on that list but with the injuries at RB I think he sticks around. None the less my list has 6 players on it and NE might only need to cut about 3-4 of those guys depending on who they activate from the PUP.

Mitchell, Baker and Washington are all good special teamers but let's not forget Eddie Jackson is a special teams ace and a good backup CB (Saban liked him a lot), if healthy Chad Jackson can play on ST coverage units, return punts/kicks if needed, and play WR.

Let's say they cut Le Kevin Smith or Santonio Thomas in order to make room for Seymour, Baker or Mitchell to make room for Eddie Jackson, and Kelley Washington to make room for Chad Jackson or Troy Brown....sounds fine to me. Now would they activate both C-Jax and Troy? That's the major question in my eyes. Some of these guys might not get activated for a few weeks either.

What about Eddie jackson??? he's also on PUP or????

Chad Brown has already been cut. I would agree that he's worth cuting more than once but the NFL doesn't agree with my 'rule interpretation'.

And I'd forgotten to list the inimitable Eddie Jackson CB who is also on PUP

I believe he is on PUP, but I don't expect him to beat out anyone on the team now, or even Chad Jackson, for a ST role.

Yup, I addressed him. I actually think he could be a nice special teamer and CB for the Patriots. His ACL injury came before Chad's and wasn't expected to be fully healed until October, so he might be about ready to go. We'll see though.

Ha, sorry I forgot they had already cut him.

You are implying (whether you mean to or not) that when a player returns to practice they need to cut someone from the 53. That's not true, they have up to 3 weeks after a player returns to practice before they add him to the 53, and it's only then they need to clear space. The injury situation might have changed before they absolutely need to cut someone.

If they activate people now rather than waiting I think will be so that they are fully ready for Indy.

I did not intend to imply that, as I know the PUP rules and that's why I said "can begin their PRACTICE windows." Sorry for any ambiguity.

BB was circumspect (what a surprise, eh?) when asked about this on WEEI today. As you folks have posted previously, he emphasized that he still has a few weeks window to decide to START the 3 week clock on the various puppies. The situation is rife with possibilities and unfortunately will be driven heavily by the evolving injury situation.

I would think Chad Jackson goes on IR since the WR corps is so deep that there's not much purpose to bringing him back this year.

Providing that Watson isn't badly hurt and doesn't get re-injured over the next 3 weeks, Marcellus Rivers is probably first to be cut since he was the odd man out back when Rodney was re-activated.

I'm thinking the same thing with Chad Jackson but word on the street is that Jackson and his agent don't want him on I.R.. The Pats should keep him around because the injury bug is going around the NFL.

I think it was said BY his agents to the Pats and the media...so quite well known..like a lawsuit if he was put on IR? A bit more than the street....we'll see what happens with him...I would say shelve him..he IS getting paid..so I do not think he should complain at all....

Chad Jackson has more upside than Kelly Washington. Also, I don't think Rivers is going anywhere. As we saw with Watson yesterday, a third TE is a necessity, not a luxury.
