Just watched the replay of this sequence. Helluva job by Barber to stay alive, escape his own end-zone, but good CHRIST, who do we have to blow to get a holding call there? The OL against Rodney - while Barber was stuck in the EZ - grabbed him by the jersey and then threw him down onto the field. BEYOND holding. It was an obvious mugging-holding.

That's a huge play there, a significant non-call, and leads me to the main point of this thread...the officiating today, despite being in the hands of the ordinarily capable Mike Carey, was TERRIBLE. Holding calls - not just that one - went unflagged all day.

I understand the reasoning behind not being able to reverse the "shoved out"-ness of the bogus non-call against T.O. - and it didn't matter since Dallas scored soonafter. BUT - how did they NOT make the call on the field? It was OBVIOUS that Hobbs pushed him out, the official was right there, you can't miss that call.

Any others that I'm missing? All in all, a tough day for the crew. A bad job overall.

Anyone think that there might of been a memo to the refs to let some things go this was a very hyped game they wanted a shootout!
The least holding calls the more points scored on both sides.
Or i could just be searching for smoke.

I was PISSED about that blown play...

however, I was very impressed about Barber. We need him.

The refs called so many penalties on the Cowboys that it would have looked bad if they calld even more.... What we saw was physical domination by the Pats; cheating was the only way the Cowboys could stay in it. So they cheated all game long.

I would agree.......... I ended up watching a few Dallas Offensive snaps looking for that. I'd say there were BLATANT holding non-calls on about 75% of the ones I watched. Not talking subtle ones either. Outright mugging in most cases.

That said, Dallas did get a lot of flags today so its not like the refs were calling nothing. I just think the O line was so overwhemed that they couldn't help themselves. It wasn't an easy day for them.

Thank you patsox23, I couldn't agree more. The officiating yesterday was downright disgusting at times. I understand wanting to let the guys play, but there were a lot of blatantly obvious Cowboy holding calls going "unnoticed", amongst other referee flub-ups in the game. It seemed at times that the Cowboys could've been called for holding on every stinking play. One that really stood out to me was on the T.O. touchdown where there were two different Pats pass rushers (Harrison and I believe Green) were being held.......Jarvis was practically getting his jersey pulled under his shoulder pads. The Cowboys could've easily had 200+ yards of penalties levied in this game........Pats could've won this game by 4 or 5 TDs if not for the sketchy officiating.

There's an uncalled holding on every play in any given game, more or less. I don't like it either, but it happens. The Patriots won, the officials made some good, some bad calls.

I agree with you. However, I believe the Pats v Cowboys game was worse than normal.

if you heard the cowboy players post game interviews they felt some calls didnt go their way

Yeah but when a absolutely terrible hold happens in the endzone during a would-be safety, it has to be called.

I dont think the force out is an obvious call. It is NOT that any time there is contact you give him the catch,
The force out is only used when OBVIOUSLY he was coming down in bounds, and the hit took him out, but there would be no question without it.
In this case Owens was coming down awkwardly to begin with. The contact was not a push out of bounds, and I have seen TONS of receivers that close to the sidelines not get that foot in. The call does not depend on it being TO and whether you think he would normally get the foot down, it has to be a no doubter. That one wasn't to me.

But I do agree the officiating could have been better.

I think in EVERY GAME fans of both teams think their team should have gotten more calls. Its pretty simple. When the Patriots have a big play, you are focussed on the big play. When they give one up, all of sudden the uncalled penalties are obvious on replay.
I saw penalties on almost every positive play the Cowboys had.
(The was one big catch by Witten that the announcers criticized Rodneys coverage, but when you watch the replay Witten shoved him out of the way) I saw lots of holdings that looked blatantly obvious, not called. The personal foul that led to Dallas first score looked like a horrible call.
I think in the end, 99% of games are called 99% evenly.

I just find it hard to be objective when if there is a flag on the field, when the annoncement comes and its against them, I'm happy, and if its against us I'm questioning whether it was a bad call.

a big win is great but i agree. rewatching the game I believe the cowboys live by the rule "they aren't gonna call all the holding calls against us."

In that should-been safety I'm pretty sure Rodney was thrown to the by his head.....we're lucky rodney wasn't hurt.

ona couple barber outside run there is excessive holding. I know there is holding on pretty much every play but you gotta call it on those big plays.
I was thinking of making a Youtube video of all the holding but that may be bad karma....just take the win and move on.

I think it was a poorly officiated game. the one play that comes to mind is the non-Moss TD pass. The one where he got called for pushing off in the end zone, that was laughable. I didn't see anything there. It was nowhere close to as bad as Witten pushing off on Rodney that was missed. I also agree that the offensive linemen (and TE's) hold on almost every play, but get caught about 10% of the time. The Colt's are the kings of this tactic.

I agree with what you're saying, but when it's blatantly obvious it needs to be called, regardless of the game situation. There were plenty of these on display yesterday.

Okay so I just signed up been trolling for a while. Given the discussion on the reffing yesterday I thought this was the best thread to post my question. It was at the end of the 2nd quarter and the 'boys were called for something I forgot what penalty with under a minute to play, :59 to be exact, which according to the ref requires a 10 second run off. What happened to the run off? 2 plays later they review the TO reception/dropped ball then when the ruling on the field is over turned by review the ref has them reset th clock to :51. This would be impossible, if the 10 second run off occurred then the clock could only have been set to :49 at the most which would have indicated that the 2 plays took :00 of the clock. We won so it doesn't really matter but just curious what happened to the run off? Was it a mistake by the ref and everyone else (Nantz and Simms) that it was supposed to happen and the offical score keeper over ruled them or was the official score keeper a bone head and the ref forgot about the ten seconds?

Just curious.

Good Point.
I was also wondering the same....??

Yes, I too saw Rodney get clubbed to the head.

Funny not many of you mention the blatant block to the back Rodney also took on the Cowboys long KR. The replay showed this perfectly in slow-mo. His being able to to fight through that and still make the tackle is just another sign of a true ball player.

Thanks for starting this thread. I also was muttering at the tv, "they're holding ever down". It's like it was their offensive strategy comming in to the game. either that or maybe they teach it there..."When you get beat grab under the pads, count to 2 mississippi and then let go".

I was so over it after the game, until Romo says that the game hinged on a holding call on that 4th and one. I was thinking, if bruschi wasn't held, he'd had a chance to stuff that run. Not to mention all the other non-calls. Romo almost sounded like he was coming down with a case of the "Kordells".

me and my friends noticed it too. I THINK, not sure but I think the cowboys can take a time out to NOT get the 10 seconds taken off. I tihnkt hats what happened.

on EEI right now they are saying the reffing was horrible.

There was clearly a lot of holding but I also counted at least EIGHT Pats missing tackles. Props to Barber, that was one tough 2 yard run. He seemed like the only 'boy that showed up to play.
