I recorded yesterday's game, and I'm marvelling at how accurately and quickly Simms is analyzing some of the Pats plays, and the defensive lapses that help them succeed. He seems as good at analyzing coverages now as he was when he was a QB himself.

Case 1: The first TD to Moss - Simms notes that one CB is playing man, one is playing zone in the left backfield for Dallas, and the how the Pats scheme exposes that coverage.

Case 2: The second TD to Welker - as Welker is crossing the goalline, Simms is already comparing the play to an old Pitts/Rams Superbowl play where the receiver splits the double coverage and goes deep. He saw the coverage breakdown as it happened, and replay confirmed his thought.

Case 3: The Stallworth TD - Simms is talking about how Brady moves in the pocket to avoid pressure, and how it makes him a better QB (obvious, I know), and at that moment Brady steps up to avoid a charging Cowboys DE and hits Stallworth in stride for the TD.

Pretty cool stuff; I think his insights add a lot to CBS's coverage, especially for pass-happy games like this one.

Simms was a smart QB with the Giants and he has the superbowl rings to prove it. It's not much of a surprise that a good QB makes for a good analyst. QB's need to break down defenses all the time when they play.

I love the guy for what he wrote before our Super Bowl against the Rams in 2001. I promise you he was the only and i mean only writer to give us a chance against the so called unbeatable Rams ! Other sports writers had already crowned St. Louis Champions. From that moment i always respected and read all his articles. Great win last night and for me it helped take away a little sadness from last 3 days. Lost a cousin in similar drowning accident to MH. Fragile life we live. GO PATS. Abdul

I think we're witnessing one of the few commentators/analysts that actually do some film study preparation.

1. Phil knows his stuff.
2. For obvious reasons, he's both friendly to and familiar with the BB approach to football.

I agree. I hated Simms a few seasons ago, but then all of a sudden I realized how good he is. And Gannon on the game a few weeks ago was really impressive.

Simms seems to know his stuff and I know it is his job to talk, but I bet you'd never get a word in edge-wise if you tried to converse with him. He keeps talking over Jim Nantz all the time. It's kind of funny to listen to, but I'd end up telling him off, to my detriment.

90% of your posts are either crying because of some perceived slight to the Colts, a deliberate goading of someone about the Patriots or something along those lines. Now, that would be fine for the visitor's forum, and it's exactly what you'd expect from a Colts forum, but this is neither of them. Keeping people honest isn't the same as crying over every perceived slight to the glory of Bill Polian and the boys.

It's not about backing down, and you're posting thoughtful and worthwhile posts in the "48 points" thread right now, too. However, you know full well what I'm talking about, so let's not play games over the percentage. Far more often than not, you're just as bad as most other trolls, which is why you get called out about it.

I disagree. Again, if I don't agree, and make my case, I am considered trolling. Have a dropped snippets in threads, sure, but you guys have thick skin, and do it yourselves. And, since "everybody does it", it makes it okay
