brady was asked about this when they went for it with 20 secs left and he showed a lot of emotion on the TD and why the cowboys shouldnt take this an insult.he said asked the cowboys.
now i want ask this. is it more respectful to kick a FG or run it up the middle giving their defense a chance to stop them ?
BB always has said this when teams did this to us occasionally that its the job of the defense to stop and offense to score. even romeo said this last week so why does hitting a FG make it more sportsmanlike. ?
i guess they couldve taken a knee but iam sure they wanted to piss wade off.

the FG is unsportsmanlike - it's piling on points for no reason other than for stats. The patriots lined up and ran a simple running play and the cowboys couldn't stop it - what's unsportsmanlike about that?

First off, they could NOT have taken a knee as that would just be a turnover... no one ever does that.

As for the FG. IMO a FG is always a last resort of a drive for when you NEED points. You ONLY kick a FG when you NEED points, you ONLY knee when you can run out the entire clock. Neither was the case, so you run it with your last RB on the depth chart.

Running up the middle wasn't unclassy. Kicking a FG would be stupid. The Pats have done this a couple times this year at the end of games. They run it up the middle. Too bad Dallas couldn't muster up the strength to stop a play right up the gut. I believe we played another team and they stopped us on fourth at the end of the game preventing us from scoring again.

Buffalo I believe. They actually stopped us.

Yeah I am sure BB thinks Phillips is a loser so thats why Pats went for it!

If they take a knee on 4th, the ball is turned over to Dallas and the clock doesn't keep running. That would have been stupid. They had to either go for it or kick a FG.

the last call was called simply so eckel could get an NFL td...that is the only reason...

bb has a lot of respect fo rthe kid, but hes not too good, and may not be on the team for too long...so why not make it fun for him while hes still here?

You could easily take a knee, teams have done it. Being up more than 1 TD with 20 seconds allows you to do that if you choose to do so.

"Taint this!, Wade"

I'm sure Peter King is probably blogging about it now

I know it's a tough argument to make as we have SO MUCH talent now but I do think that all the points we're scoring are in part because Belichick wants to stick it to the league as much as he can. He won't admit it to his dying day but as we were accused of stealing defensive signals, that would be to help the offense - what better way to show we don't, and never did, need help than by blowing the lid off the score in every game.

Shouldn't be a big deal. I think kicking a FG is actually riskier than running it right into the middle due to the potential for a block/return. Pats have done a 'kneel down' in those situations, but as others have indicated, the 'kneel downs' usually run the clock out, which couldn't have been the case here due to it being 4th down. I'm with the group that says, "Hey, Dallas... we're going to run it right up the middle. Put 11 in the box, stop us, and the game ends peacefully." Instead, ol' Wade's got his knickers in a twist because a Navy man punched one in... Too bad. Beat us next time, ya wuss.

As far as I'm concerned, running it up the middle on every down with your 5th-string running back is pretty darned restrained.

Who Cares? The Colts would have put up 50 easy on their arses and wouldn't even think about it. We need to stop worrying about the feelings of other teams when we beat them. We never got an apology from Indy when they ran up the score on us after they finally won a game at Foxboro. We didn't get an apology from San Diego either when they ran up the score on us three years ago at Foxboro. For years I've heard the Pats don't have a killer instinct. Now we do. WE SHOULD BEAT TEAMS BRAINS IN EVERY WEEK.
What do you think teams would do to us given the opportunity? It is not our job to stop ourselves, it's their job to stop us. I don't care what these teams think. Let them whine. I remember the taunts from San Diego when they blew us out in 2005. I also remember how Polian wanted his defense to break Flutie's legs. To hell with all of these teams. Do you honestly believe that they would think about our feelings while they kick our arse. I think not, and neither should we.

Games in the Rugby World Cup ended at like 65-0, 100-0... and alot more there is at stake than a regular season football game, namely national pride. Is it something about America that we can't bear to see some team win by however many points? I never have a problem with teams running up the score; it's just entertainment, after all, and these are professionals. If you have some pride, stop them.

Very well said defensrules! F*** what other fans & players think. At least for this year.

You shouldn't run up the score UNLESS your opponent is still trying to win.

Calling a time out after the 2 minute warning when we were OBVIOUSLY trying to run the clock down (Kyle Eckel was carrying!!) was a pretty clear sign that Dallas was still trying to win. If they're still stubbornly calling timeouts to get the ball back even though we have our back up fullback rushing straight ahead on every play to eat clock then why should we just give them the ball back?

Buffalo didn't call any timeouts in the same situation 3 weeks ago so we just ran the clock down.

It's a two-way street.

Don't say teams have done it, show me. When has a team taken a knee on FOURTH DOWN for a turnover? WHEN????

iam not saying we should care, just debating about this topic. There seems to be this fallacy about what is a sportsmanlike play and what isnt especially created by the media.
the best thing about this is BB never explains it keeping the media giving their own opinions
