All of the discussion of the "Original" 81 and the "other" 81, plus Russ Francis's (another 81's) comments on it, got me inspired to post this thread:

Who was the best number TWELVE ever?

Please be prepared to argue in support of your choice! :)

you say who was, and I said Staubach. brady will be the best though when he retires.

Brady already has better career stats than Staubach - more TDs and more yards despite playing in only 99 games vs 131 for Staubach, and a much TD to INT ratio. And that doesn't even take into account playoffs - we all know about Brady's phenomonal playoff record.

Player G Comp Att PCT YD Y/A TD INT
Staubach 131 1685 2958 57.0 22700 7.7 153 109
Brady 99 2013 3222 62.5 22947 7.1 163 80

note: I corrected the # of games played for Brady - they had 101 which probably counts the first two games of 2001 in which TB was active but did not play.

I know those other guys have good cases, especially Staubach, but I'm a homer and I reserve that right.
Before Tom's through, it won't be close, though.

What no Matt Cavanaugh .

Tom Ramsey.

Chris

lol - don't give up so easy man, argue your side! :D

Well, there is always the chance Brady could miss the rest of his passes, and throw a lot of interceptions. I highly doubt that will happen, but I just think that you shouldn't compare a player who is playing to a player who is retired. You never know what can happen in the future for the player because anything could.

But after brady retires with all the records because he has moss, it will be clear that he is better than not only any #12, but any #18 too.

not that I don't agree with the result, which I do, but what is the point of a poll like that on a Pats fan forum lol?

lol - it is a long time between games! Actually, a lot of our posters are objective. If we posted the same poll about #80, I don't think too many of us would say Troy Brown was/is better than Jerry Rice or Steve Largent, no matter how heroic he has been for us in 2001-2004 and how much we love the little guy.

no doubts at all...
