"Colts too good for prime time"

i'm betting that the networks hate dealing with Polian so when he asked they stroked him and said "you guys win by too much at home, bad tv"

If the colts are so popular why would they care if the colts win by too much?? how is that bad tv?
WHy would they schedule dallas vs Buffalo ....everyone thought that was going to be a blow out....it wasn't but no one picked it.

If the Indy primetime ratings drop it would be becasue most people tune in to see the colts lose and when it doesn't look like they will they turn the dial. Fans watch the whole game.

Fans of the two teams involved watch the whole game. But many people without a vested interst in the teams tend to turn off blowout games.

I think the Dallas/Buffalo game was scheduled because Buffalo looked like they might be a team on the upswing last year and they had not hosted a Monday night game in a long time.

Not true...NO ONE thought the bills were on an up swing.

and what i'm saying is if the colt fan base is so big then you get big ratings either way.

it comes down to this. When Polian has you up against the wall with his hands around your throat you'll tell him whatever you have to so he'll let you go. :D

The reason that they don't get many prime time games is because the network doesn't give two ****s about fly over country.

They were a 7-9 team with an emerging QB and WR. There are up starts every year.

If that's the case, why was the league "fixing" games for the Colts to win the Super Bowl?

Because the yokel finally needed to win something. With all those awesome new ads and all. Aw shucks!!!

The question and answer had nothing to do with the game against the Patriots. They were talking about the lack of home Monday night games. The defending Super Bowl champ doesn't have a single home Monday night game.

Here is the question and entire answer...

Q: Why are there so few Monday Night games in the RCA Dome?

A: NBC told us they don’t like us at home, because we tend to win by rather large scores and that doesn’t make for good TV. Monday Night is ESPN and I think we’re only on once – Jacksonville. They chose Jacksonville as the host there. That’s partially the schedule-maker and partly television and partly how they juxtapose the schedule and fit every game in. It tends to run a little bit in cycles. We’ve had our share of Monday Night games at home, I think, and this year it tends to go the other way. The one anomaly that I find interesting in the schedule – and I don’t have a stat on this, but I’m going to get it next week – is that we’re on the road on Monday Night at Jacksonville and then have to go back and play on the road the following Sunday at Carolina. That is extremely rare. I can’t remember it happening to any team that I have been with. My memory is failing me these days, so I could be wrong on that, but nothing jumps to mind immediately. It is a very, very difficult thing to do.

Monday night games are not marquee games anymore. They are mostly crap games that used to be Sunday night games when ABC used to have MNF. I don't think Indy running up the score at home has anything to do with it. I think Polian is just full of himself.

I didn't read the comment and just commented on other posts. But looking at the comment, I think Polian is just pumping up his own ego again.

I disagree they got a game because they might be on an upswing, I think the whole reason was they hadn't had a primetime game in a long time.

Remember that until last year Monday night was for marquee teams, the top tier of the leage, and Sunday night on ESPN gave the rest of the league an occasional shot at primetime. Now the nights are reversed in status.

where did Polian say ANYTHING about the Patriots in that statement? Some of these pat fans are just so eager to find "bulletin board" material out of nothing that you'll make something out of anything that doesnt even have to do with your team

thank you for posting the entire quote, i had seen it but a lot of these fans obviously hadn't, since they're soooo interested in what Polian has to say

You are on a pats board farmer boomer. Might want to take that into consideration. If we where on the second pats board (indystar) things might be different!

I don't know, this seems to have turned into a Indystar sister site lately from the view of the front page from the last few days. Still, trying to make something out of this statement which Polian just responded to is kinda a reach ya think? Don't you all play Dallas next week?

nobodys is making anything more out of than it is. It's just polian being polian.

Look, people, do I have to do ALL the work around here?! We're never going to blow this up into a genuine controversy at this rate. I'd like to pour fuel on this happy little campfire by emailing Bill Polian and suggesting that Bob Kraft's chairmanship and heavy-handed work on television subcommittee has caused NBC, CBS, and ESPN to intentionally shun Indianapolis.

Hehe . . . yes. Yes, I think I'll do just that.

What sad times are these that a Trent Green concussion, an Artrell Hawkins DUI, and a T.O. love note are high-drama for the NFL. <sigh>

Polian had to be joking. Not even he is that full of himself or is he?

It is a relatively known fact that the reason that the Colts/Patriots game is not in primetime because CBS gets screwed every year because the what is usually the most popular game on the AFC schedule (Pats/Colts) always ends up in primetime. The league decided that CBS should actually have it for once.

Yeah what people are overlooking is the ability for networks to protect games under flex scheduling. They'll definitely protect games like the Pats @ Indy or when the Steelers come to Foxboro. At least I hope they protect the Steelers game, I don't really want to wait until 8:30 for the game that day since I'll be going.

The problem for NBC is that the NFL tries to give them the best slate of games possible without totally pissing off the other networks but a lot of it is based on how the teams performed last year. Would NBC really be asking for a Saints game right now if they had the choice?

It's pretty much all Pats all the time these days, whether positive or negative, we're the team that everyone seems to talk about, despite the fact that Indy are the champs and will be until someone knocks them off.

I'd love for the rest of the country to shut the hell up about the Patriots but they're still the team that people target to announce themselves as a contender. I like 1PM games on Sunday as well, so if Napolian wants the prime time spotlight for the Colts, have at it.

Is there such a sub committee? And if so, is Kraft really on it? Pretty good little conspiracy theory!

Actually, I like the 1pm games as well. Colts actually have their fair share of 4 pm games mixed in with a Sunday Nighter, Monday Nighter and a couple of Thursday Nighters.

So, by your account the Pats were average?
Yeah, it's the new math, Indy style. Pats win by 17+ points per game, and the Colts barely squeek out a couple wins.

Therefore the Colts aren't on prime time because they are too good, and the Pats are on prime time because they are average.

I can wait until you learn to multiple and divide. Your mom will be so proud!

Since the schedule is basically set outside of the flex period that is coming up, this season's games really don't factor into this conversation.

I remember when it was gauche to win by narrow margins (see any Pats season in the recent past) and it was tacky to blow folks out.

Good times.

I think they MORE than compensate with the volume of Peyton Manning commercials playing these days. I'll bet he's pimping 20 different products on commercials these days. And that doesn't even count that, with a couple clicks, I can jump inside Manning's Mind and hear the museum-like echo any time I want.

 ..........

Oh please there are barley any colts threads on this board. Indystar is patsfans ugly, jealous neighbor.Last time I was there all the "football" discussion was in a thread with a few photo shopped stetson ads of Brady. The dumb hicks where do stupid to realize someone messed with the photo's. Not to mention the highschool gossip vibe of the whole board.

Seems to me that whole board is like a gossip board for pats news:eek:
