Adam Schefter was on D&C this morning and they were talking about Pete Carroll maybe getting the SD job next year when Schefter said asked them if they knew who would be the hottest guy and they said Cowher and he said no that it would be Josh McDaniels if the Pats kept playing like they are. They asked again if it wouldn't be Cowher and he said that the "Patriot Way" was what people wanted.

Schefter has been known to go out on a limb but most of the time he's right so I found this real interesting.

I doubt this. McDaniels is too new at the job, and there are better explanations for the Patriots' success than his play calling.

Dont tell NEM....He would go into a 2 hour rant about how Josh is the worst thing since the universe was formed.

It's not fair to downgrade McDaniels for having talent now when we were 7th in the league in scoring last year when he had sh!t to work with.

I've said for a while that I think McDaniels will be a hot candidate - and soon. My gut feeling is that he will decide to learn from Belichick longer; but HC opportunities can be fleeting so you never know.

This would be persuasive if we hadn't said the exact same thing about Eric Mangini two years ago....

Exactly, McDaniels will have had more experience at OC than Mangini did at DC if he goes next year.

Hard to grade him, his job got alot easier with all the talent he has this year..

On the flip side, if Mangini's grand New York adventure continues on its current trajectory, that might help convince McDaniels that the grass isn't greener!

I'd have to give him some credit for last year though.

Yeah, I wonder how he is using his spare time these days.

"It's not because of Josh- it's because of Randy."

wait a minute..isnt it all because of defensive signals being taped and known in advance ? how will mcdaniels fare without it on another team ? Someone ask schefter that. ?

Schefter has always seemed to downplay the whole "videogate" thing.

Well if he were chosen as some team's HC, it would put NEM's theories to the test.

It's pretty easy for an OC to look good when you have Tom Brady, Randy Moss, etc.

I think Ragini is the last coordinator to leave BB unblessed.
Let Josh hang out here for a bit, and try to make a go at 19-0, form the best team ever etc.
The team comes first.
After that episode is over he can be a HC, or even take over for BB when all is said and done...

I don't see/hope JM leaves so early.
USING BB that way the rat did for self-promotion.

The true test of a coach or coordinator is not how well they can adapt when they have Randy Moss and Tom Brady - but how well they adapt and cover up deficiencies when they have, say Reche Caldwell and Jabar Gaffney as the #1 & #2 WRs.

NEM was right about McDaniel's playcalling last year (and anyone who knows me I never think NEM's right about anything) - as far as the job he's done this year, he's done a good job... but I also think that I could do a great job as an OC with Randy Moss, Stallworth & Welker in the WR spots too.

I can't help but think that most GMs would look beyond this one season to determine if McDaniel's has the mettle to be a head coach... that's a position that's much more than X's and O's... it takes leadership, ego, and confidence... and I don't know McDaniels well enough to say that he does or doesn't have that.

So while I'd say that he's no where near ready for that step, there are going to be a lot of openings, and one of them is likely to offer a position to McDaniels or some other Patriot coach.

So Josh McDaniel will be the hottest coach sought after?

I guess that means the Rats have already decided that this is Mangina's last season.
