Wade makes promise on Romo
During his conference call with the New England media, Cowboys coach Wade Phillips was asked about QB Tony Romo's five-interception effort against Buffalo.

Phillips' response? The coach said Romo would never throw more than two picks in a game again.

Maybe, there's shrouded message to the QB in there? Or maybe this wasn't the week to say it -- in their last two games, the Patriots defense has recorded five interceptions.

shouldn't Romo be making these promises? not someone on behalf of him?

Let's hope for the foot in the mouth.

That's kind of a weird thing for a coach to say.

Unless he plans to bench him after two picks, he can't guarantee it. Even Manning and Brady have 3+ pick games once in a while.

He's either being very very optimistic or talking about a short leash.

I am so not concerned about this game anymore. Patriots win.

Guys in Texas should know:

"Don't mess with the bull, you'll get the horns."

I want a link to the full conference call.

And that's the difference between coaches like Son of Bum and Bill.

What an idiotic thing to say.

I swear wade is slowly evolving from a Coach to a cheerleader. He gives a fist pump to everything.

That's one of the dumbest things I've heard that turkey neck fat man say.

What about tipped passes etc...?

What a ******.

The Cowboys need to be humbled!:violent:

Eh, sounds just like an offhand comment made to the press, a bit of hyperbole, and nothing more.

I did chuckle at his remark that he didn't think that Romo meant to throw all those picks...

You all should have heard him on Buffalo radio last week going off on officials and the Bills ownership. It was embarrassing.

Never is such a powerful word. It's one of those handle with care words, especially with something as volatile as pro football. Wilson is a moron.

TAKE IT IN CONTEXT PEOPLE. THIS IS THE MEDIA SPIN MACHINE.

Full quote:

"I think he learned from it, too, and I don’t think he meant to do those things," said Phillips. "I don’t think there’s going to be a problem with him throwing five interceptions a game. I’ll be surprised if it ever happens again, or if he ever throws two in a game. Yeah, minus five in the turnover battle, I don’t think anybody has ever won except us."

"I'll be surprised if he ever throws 2 in a game" translates into a promise? Get the facts first. To be fair, the media outlet reports the promise, but clearly the text below does not support the conclusion above.

Romo had 3 games after Thanksgiving last year when he threw 2 INTS, vs NYG,NO and vs Philly. Even the best throw 2 Ints in a game but to 'be surprised" if he threw 2 in a game almost sounds ..naive???

If Romo throws 5 interceptions again, Jerry Jones will fire Wade and start coaching the team himself. Heck, he might even fire Romo and play the QB position also.
