I was just listening to Mike and Mike in the morning and they were reading Sal Palontonio's new book titled " Most overrated/underrated. I been a Patriots fan my whole life but was a little to young to remember him. So I'm asking some of you old timers what you think about that. How was Tippet as a player?

Bite your tongue. highest two-season sack total by a linebacker in NFL history, 5 straight pro-bowls, 3-time NFL Linebacker of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year (1985), All-American in college, and was a top-ten finalist for the Pro Hall of Fame...

No, he wasn't over-rated. The fact that he isn't in the HOF right now is a travesty.

He was both a beast and a class act. One of the few players to be proud of having had on the New England Patriots.

I was watching it on ESPN2 I thought he said most underrated for tippett?

I agree..if anything Tip is UNDER-rated..as LT played with a great defense...teh Pats defense AROUNF Rippet wa snot as good at all, so it makes what he did even more remarkable....
Was this from the Sal Pal book??? I am guessing it was....

Tippett was strong enough to bull rush a tackle and fast enough to go around him or to cover a tight end down field. Tackled with anger. Best linebacker in team's history IMO and it isn't close.

I can't believe anyone woudl choose Tippett as anything but underrated. Before his injury he was Lawrence Taylor's equal.

And he got most of his sacks lining up on the String side, not the weak side... :rocker:

i definetly remember seeing him as underrated.

Just saw him in a panel of ex-Pats, doing a Q & A on leadership. He was remarkably good on the topic, so if you have a school or business that needs a speaker on that topic, I'd recommend him highly.

Also, after the panel, there was an autograph opportunity. His line was clearly the longest. The other panel members were Grogan, Brock, and Nelson.

He also had Favre and Dieon Sanders on the overrated list for their position. So a part of me believes this guy might be an idiot. I just never got the chance to see Tippet play so I was wondering why he would say that.

Tippet was definitely the most underrated! Oft mentioned as such by players who played with and against him at the time.

Considering he never got the attention he deserved because the league was so in love with Lawrence Taylor (although rightfully so), I would say Tippett was underrated. In fact, I think he never got the attention he deserved. He should be in the HOF right now.

Jeez you guys are all out of whack here. He has Deion Sanders as UNDERrated.

Favre is very overrated. His gunslinger thing only worked once, 11 years ago, and that was against Drew Bledsoe, WITH Reggie White making things easy.

He is durable, but not a very smart player.

Tippett was a god.

That sounds more like it. I don't know how Tippett could be any more underrated. Ask any non-Patriot fan who are the greatest LBs of all time or even the 80s and I doubt a majority of them would even mention Tippett when he is arguably the best OLB other than LT during the 80s.

How can Deion Sanders possibly be underrated? I'm not saying he is overrated, but he is considered the best CB of all time in a lot of circles. How can you be any better than the best of all time?

In Tippet's defense, I believe is very underrated. In terms of class, intelligence, athleticism, and leadership, Tippet was definitely in LT's class and could have put up some monster stats had he played for the Giants in the mid-80s.

I love the idea that it takes "old timers" to talk about Andre Freakin' Tippett. We're not talking pre-Grogan days or anything. Good Lord.

His motor never stoped .Outside of LT No one better than
rushing the passer.
