Just five games into the season, the Patriots have an incredible four game lead within the division. I bet that is the first time that has happened.

The combined record of the other AFC East teams is 2-13, with the two wins coming against each other (Jets over Phins, Bills over Jets).

They seem totally inept when it comes to building rosters. What did Mangina think was going to happen with his little ego trip resulting in Pete Kendall being sent out of town?

The Pats really better go 6 - 0 in the division this season, although if they've got at least the 2nd playoff spot locked up by mid december those last two division games might not be worth a damn. The race with Indy should be close though so they should still be fighting for the top seed.

I'm still at a loss for words at what the Bills just managed to excrete from their rears.

Actually the Patriots magic number for clinching the division is now at 7

7 more wins in a row and the East is officially won,That means they can clinch it on December 2nd at the earliest if I am correct - Then again maybe I am not correct,Its confusing at this early stage to figure it out.

I LOVE THIS THREAD !!! LMAO

Magic number for the PAts.... so yes, we have 11 games left w a 4 game lead. so our magic number is 7. but at this rate, we could clinch earlier than december, since the rest of the div collectively will pile up more loses than we will over the remainder of the season.

By the way, who really expected these three teams to SUCK this bad?? Its fricking embarassing to even have them in our Div. But it sure is an advantage too!!

I really miss having Indy not in the division,I LOVED the matchups when we played them twice a year in the regular season in the early days,Even when Manning was still in high school the Pats Colts matchups were the best the division had.

I expected the Dolphins to be this bad (please DO NOT lose in Miami again this year, it will be even more pathetic than '04 if it happens). The Jets had an easy schedule last year and dumb-luck low number in terms of injuries. I don't know what the hell is wrong with the Bills. Cosmic punishment for cutting checks to O.J. Simpson?

They clinched the division in April. ;)

More precisely, any set of seven Patriot wins and/or second-place team losses clinches the division. I'll leave the implications of this as an exercise for the reader. ;)

That number will go down with every loss by the Jets, Bills, and Dolphins. Odds are we are going to keep winning fairly consistently and everyone else will probably lose consistently. I'm guessing we will clinch some time in November.

I think that happens next week. because ain't no way any team in that division sees more than 6 wins.

I think the Bills have actually been acquitting themselves pretty well given their staggering injury toll.

So, if the magic number is 7, the earliest the Pats could clinch the division is in 4 weeks (Pats win all their games and all other teams lose their games.) However, thats assuming there are no interdivision games between the other 3 teams over the next four weeks. I'm pretty sure thats not the case, but if it is, that means the Colts game could be the one to wrap up the division.

I just looked up the schedule. There is only one inter-division game between the other three teams. The Jets and Buffalo play each other. However, in that time frame the Pats and Bills also play each other. So, if the Pats win out, the bills beat the jets, and the other 3 teams in the division lose all their other games, the Pats will Clinch with a win at Indy.

EDIT: Actually, I think this is wrong due to the fact that the Bills have a Bye during that stretch. We would have to wait until week 10.
