What was most humorous (to me, anyway) was watching both coaches stumble all over themselves at the end of the game.
* When Dallas started their second to last drive, they needed a TD *and* a 2-pointer to tie. So why in hell did they feel the need to call a timeout prior to the 2-point conversion? That play should have been called before the drive even began. Frankly, most teams have specific plays that they practice for 2 point situations, so the array of plays should have been known before the game even began. The loss of that timeout should have been a loss clinching event once the attempt failed.
* Why not have a RB on the field for the 2-point conversion? It adds another threat to the defense, gives you a blitz pickup if necessary and gives you a dumpoff option if necessary. I tiotally disagree with that personel grouping.
* On the on-side kick, what kind of return crew was that? How was a Dallas player able to be the first one to the ball without a Bill being (relatively) near him? It was an excellent kick, but they should have had a blocking scheme in place to give a Bill the first crack at the ball.
* What was with Buffalo's defense on the last offensive play of the game? Hey Buffalo, if the ball is caught in bounds the game is over. If the pass paly takes too long, even if the guy gets OOB, the game is over. If the QB scrambles, the game is over. So why were the CBs so far off of the WRs? Dallas (obviously) only needed a handful of yards to get into legitimate FG range. What Buffalo should have done is rushed three, played press coverage on the WRs with two layers of help over the top, both of which shaded towards the sideline. Playing this way would have:
1) Delayed the flow of the play, making it likely that a quick pass would be either incomplete or tackled in bounds or that a WR would really get open only after the 7 seconds were gone
2) Rushing three would be adequate enough to make Romo think about it, without any real chance for a sack, but quick pressure is not what this defense is about. Sure, rushing 3 opens you up to a scramble, but since Romo will look pass first, any scramble is likely to end the game.
3) Having two layers of help over the top - likely in a 3 DL/3 pressing CBs/3safeties 10 yards back and 2 safeties 15-20 yards back (sub CBs or LBs in for the safties based on available personel) - would have allowed the press coverage while still protecting the deep ball *and* letting you likely keep the WR in bounds.
* I might be wrong about this, but I am pretty sure that Buffalo had 2 timeouts on Dallas' final drive. Why not take one once you see how Dallas lines up before their final offensive play?
Those last few moments were ridiculous.
