Someone from the Heinz Field crowd spit on Branch as he was exiting the field on the cart, and Branch pointed out the fan who did it to stadium security.

"You wouldn't think anybody would spit and stuff," Branch said. "Especially on the players. That's the last thing you want to do to somebody."

Even though I hate Branch with a passion..that is truly poor...Wonderful Steeler fans..I am glad he picked out the person and hopefully they dealt with him sternly...I know the Pats would do that.. TOTALLY uncalled for!!

I agree that this kind of conduct is completely unacceptable. However, let's not categorize all Steelers fans based on the embarrassing behavior of one. Unfortunately this kind of behavior happens in ALL stadiums.

No, let's. I've been to 6 stadiums and Pittsburgh was the only one where the fans threw chicken wings at us.

I have the (mis)fortune to currently live in Pittsburgh. I can tell you that the steelers fans that really know football are very good fans. The problem is those fans are in the very small minority. The rest of them are mostly ignorant about football and are usually drunk before the game.

Whatever man. My heart bleeds for you....really. You can point fingers at Pittsburgh fans all you want if that's what makes you feel better. I've attended Pats games at Gillette and witnessed fans throwing full beers, sodas, cups, etc. at fans wearing the opposing teams' apparrel. I'm a Steelers fan, and I didn't wear my jersey to the Pats games (eventhough the Pats weren't playing Pittsburgh), simply because I'm not an idiot. I realize that, although it shouldn't be that way, parading around in a rivals jersey will only invite problems.

I certainly would never condone or defend this kind of behavior, nor would I ever say that "Steelers fans would NEVER do something like that!" You know why? Because I live in a little place called REALITY. This type of thing happens at EVERY NFL stadium! Including your beloved Razor.

So, sorry you had an unpleasant experience at Heinz Field. I definitely don't agree that this type of behavior in "the norm" in Pittsburgh, and hope you'll come back to see another game sometime!

It's definately "the norm" in some cities more than others, and I'm sad to say that NE is one of those cities, along with Pittsburgh. Obviously my experiences, and the experiences of people I know, are anecdotal, but put enough of them together and you see a pattern. Fans in Green Bay & Cleveland welcomed us with open arms, in Green Bay people were coming up to us and telling us that we're great fans for making the trip to support our team, etc. In the meantime, almost everyone who I know that's gone to Pittsburgh has been involved in a fight they didn't start. There are lots of knuckleheads in Pittsburgh, more than in a lot of other places.

Ever been to Philly? The worst fans I've ever seen. Regretably, the old staudium in Foxboro was consistently the scene of some of the worst fights I've ever seen. I once sa a Mass state trooper wade into a fight there to break it up, only to get his lights absolutely punched out. When the cops are getting $hite kicked out of them, you know its a rough place.

I've not been to all the stadiums, but the Patriots fans have absolutely no room to point fingers. They (we) are some of the worst in the many games I have been to. I wonder if I have ever been to a game where I didn't see a fight breakout in the stands. They should have breath-a-lyzer tests at the gate. Stupid drunk idiots.

Been there wearing Pats gear. I wasn't in the black hole, but I had a lot of fun. We got our butts kicked back in 2002. The fans were fine. They gave me some good natured crap like fake high fives and such. I am very loud, but they didn't care. Saw a few drunks projectile vomitting, but nobody gave me any troublesome crap.
