The Pats are blowing teams out because of Moss, but they’re undefeated because of their depth.

Boy, isn't that the truth? Thumbs up to the FO for a masterful job this past off season. Talk about having a finger on the pulse of your team, and a strong understanding of what needs to be accomplished from a personnel stand point.

To me, that quote says it all - except that I would venture a change: to me, it should read:

The Pats are blowing teams out because of Brady and Moss, but they’re undefeated because of their depth.

Wait, I thought we weren't supposed to like Felger.

I get it. Because it is a positive topic.

Yes and no. It's always easier to enjoy an article if it is positive about your team, however I like to think I respect an author enough to enjoy their writings as long as they back up their views credibally with analysis. I always have thought Felger and even Borges for that matter were skilled writers, but often their views are a little jaded and opinionated as they seem to get more notice and acclaim when stirring the pot. Even still, I have felt Felger's writing is usually fairly supported regardless if positive or negative... it's his radio personality that drives me nuts. He reminds me of Colin Cowherd who seemingly would rather talk to himself all day as it is his best opportunity for him to dictate the direction of a show. In his articles his soap box is usually harder to find.

This article brings forward respect to the likes of Hochstein, Green, and Sanders when almost every other article talks of Belichick, Moss or Brady. For that matter I think it is a great article.

Felger's an idiot.

The Pats aren't blowing teams out.

They're crushing them.

And you can all thank BB and Cameragate for that.

You're both wrong. They are annihilating their opponents.

You are both not quite right. What has happened is that the Pats have risen the Black Flag over the NFL. Traditionally flown before going into battle, the Black Flag gave the troops one message; no surrender and no quarter.

This space has harped on the depth issue repeatedly over the past few years, mostly because when it comes to winning championships, it’s hard to find a factor that’s more important. The Patriots of 2001-04 taught us that.

Everyone has injuries. Every team looks different in December than it did in September. Often, it’s the second stringers that prove the difference. The Pats are blowing teams out because of Moss, but they’re undefeated because of their depth.

First of all, this is misleading to the point of being FALSE. And it's also sleazily self-congratulatory. It's an I-Told-Ya-So couched in "it's 'cause they didn't have depth!" They DID have depth - there was just an outrageous amount of injuries. At some point "depth" can't be sustained and that is a huge part of what happened the last couple of years.

Of course the WR situation ended up being really crappy, I'm not saying things were perfect, and I'm not saying depth isn't important and that it isn't contributing to this season's success. I'm just saying he's making a phony argument and the context he has put it in is typically Chachi-like - like he's the smartest guy in the room. Smarmiest maybe, but smartest? No. In that world, HE'S the "dog."

Notice the praise for Gay? Hmm. If Gay can stay healthy he makes for a nickelback that is nearly as good as our starters.

So shiva have you given yourself over completely to the Pats yet? Join us, come on over to the dark side. :rocker:

Felger is a baffoon. He is so wrong, so often, about the team that he covers.

He spent all preseason belittling everybody that was praising Moss, and what he could bring to the team. He was the only expert that could see the real Moss dogging it before he got hurt, and thought we were all idiots for thinking Moss would be productive.

Now, he's Moss' biggest fan? He's a fool. Can't stand his lack of skill at assessing the team he's paid to watch.

regrettably, Commissioner Goodell has issued a brief mandating that vanquished teams no longer allow their cheerleaders to lament publicly

You can choose your friends but you can't choose your family.

We're your family now. You're a true brother to us, once you accept the Patriots Way. Come have some kool-aid. Shiva is such a sad sounding name. How about Brother Tom? Wouldn't you like that? Yes, yes, now you see... you've been kept from the light of victory all these years. Would a real family do that to you...?
