Linebacker Corey Mays, who was waived by the Patriots prior to Monday night's game with the Bengals, has been claimed by Cincinnati.

The Bengals entered Monday's game with just four healthy linebackers and then lost two of them during the game.

Mays, who entered the league with the Patriots as a rookie free agent in 2006, opened last season on the practice squad. He ended up being promoted to the active roster and played in eight regular-season games, primarily on special teams. Mays also played in all three playoff games last year.

Mays was with the Patriots in training camp again this year and did not make the roster coming out of camp. He was signed to the practice squad and was promoted to the active roster before the season opener and has played sparingly, mostly on special teams.

Poor kid...LB for the Bengals, a fate I wouldn't wish on a Colt at this point. :(

A day late and a dollar short Marv.

A coaching blunder that even Herm Edwards recognizes as a coaching blunder... and that's saying something.

Good for Corey!
A fine opportunity.

I love it when Patriots' cuts catch on elsewhere.
It only improves the league.

At least he has a chance to play and make some dough.

Yup. This will be a great opportunity for some young LBs to get some snaps and make an impression in Cincinnati. I only feel bad for Mays in that he goes from the best coach in the league to a chump.

This is Marvin Lewis looking for that locker room magic wherever he can find it.

Maybe Marvin Lewis brought him in to find out how the Pats plan to play the Bengals.

Oh wait.

Regards,
Chris

I'm really happy for him. Hope it doesn't come back to haunt us someday. I wonder if this means Kyle Eckel isn't a one-week pick-up - or maybe BB just took a risk that Mays wouldn't get claimed and lost out.

In any case, this gives Mays a much better shot at real p-time and making a name (and some $$$) for himself.

He's trying to steal sig......

Oh. Sorry.

Another year toward his pension.

Good luck, Corey.

As far as I'm concerned, the Bengals can have Chad Brown as well.

Hey I wish the kid all the luck and hope he does well there, but talk about change of environment.

Eckel will go back to PS as Maroney gets healthy, but we do need a roster spot for RODNEY...

Speaking of which...why the Hell didn't we cut Chad Brown to make a spot for Eckel instead?

I called it yesterday in the gameday thread.

From Practice Squad to instant starter. Good for Corey, automatically he becomes one of the better linebackers on their team. He should do well their and probably earn some good money.

You can't begrudge the guy a chance to PLAY! He'll get reps at LB and continue as a ST maven. Maybe he'll even upgrade the character of that sorry locker room environment. It can't hurt. Whatever the effect, they'll continue to struggle for awhile.
