BB and Chad

It just struck me...could this conversation have helped trigger Marvin Lewis's tirades against his team? Your star receiver trots over for some affectionate banter with the opposing coach whose team is busy kicking your ass. As much as it charmed Pats fans, it does seem to fit the charges:

- looking in the mirror and seeing "selfishness"
- "nowhere in the NFL do guys act like this"
- "if you don't want to be on this team, don't show up tomorrow"

Yeah Chad should show up at Gillette instead :D

Chad Johnson always talks to opposing players. Not just talking smack but saying "hi, how are the kids.." kind of talk. This is a job to him. He's one of the few athletes that can give %100 effort with out taking himself or his job too serious. The man was having fun and talking to a friend, that's it.

There was obviously a little man-love happening between the two, on NATIONAL TV no less. I wonder if that pisses his teammates and coaches off.

My guess is he told Bill..... "Look, I'm about to Dillon my my ass right out of this crappy town. You got my back, right.... Next year, it'll be you, me, Tommy and Rand. BOOK IT" ;)

The 2008 receiving WRs for the Patriots...Cinquo Uno et Cinco Ocho !!

here is what was said as per BB

PS: Alright, it's right around the end of the second quarter and [Chad] Johnson makes a catch. He comes over to you, says something, you start laughing. Can you share with us what happened during that exchange? I've never seen that. I don't ever remember a player coming over to you at the two-minute warning to chat.

BB: Well, I just greeted him before the game. Last year I told him we were going to double cover him every game and he asked me if we were going to double cover him again today and I said 'Well, you know, [that's the] only way we can cover you.' [Laughter] So after that play he came over and, you know, he caught that swim post on us for about, I don't know, 20 or 25, whatever it was. So it was the two-minute warning and he walked over and he said 'I thought you were going to double me.' And I said 'We did double you that time and you still got us. We're just going to keep doubling you.' [Laughter] He was like 'Come on, man. Let me go one-on-one sometime.' [Laughter] I'll tell you what, that kid, he was a great guy to be around at the Pro Bowl. He's as hard a working player as I've seen on the practice field and competitively in games. He just has fun playing, you know? And I really, I appreciate that and respect him for that.

I agree on all points, but I can imagine that to a coach watching his season going down the toilet, that "having fun" and "not taking your job too serious" could be galling. (Imagine one of the Patriots' marquee players laughing though a friendly sideline chat with, say, Tony Dungy as the Colts stomped all over the Patriots!)

I enjoy CJ as much as the next guy, and from a Pats fan stand point, I loved to see him over there jawing and joking with BB.

BUT...

If I were Marvin Lewis I would bench his ass for that. There is no excuse for what he did IMO. It was just wrong on every level.

Eh, if Cincy doesn't want him, we'll take him.

Palmer was the one who screwed up on this, not Johnson, as Palmer admitted in his press conference. So, I guess the Bengals should bench their starting quarterback, right?

He was talking about Chad chatting it up with BB, not the argument between Chad and Carson...

uhh... So it was Palmer who was over on the opposing teams sideline, joking with the other teams coach about giving him some "single coverage", while his team was getting their asses handed to them?

Did you even read what I wrote? :bricks:

I did read it, but it didn't process properly. Even having read it, the Palmer incident stayed in the brain. My sincerest apologies. I will now go to the penalty box and serve my 2 minutes.

It's all good man. The Palmer/CJ miscommunication was the backbreaker last night (IMO). :eat3:

Yup, I've said for awhile now I'd take this guy on the Patriots in a second, and it's obvious BB agrees.

Imgine trying to defend that?? Moss/CJ/Welker/Watson??

Good lord. It might just take the fun right out of it all. (Not really!! :D )

Maybe Cincy will let us borrow him just for the Jets game... we can lend them a LB for the week.

emagine trying to defend Moss, CJ, Welker, C-Jax, and Watson in a 5 wide set?

Don't forget Stallworth.

I was going to say that to him, but it seemed maybe he was talking about next year? If Moss and CJ were here I doubt Stallworth would be.

In his Coffee With the Coach segment, I loved hearing BB talk about his respect and admiration for Chad. Obviously, it's mutual. But I couldn't help but roll my eyes when one of the hosts (forget who) said, "Doesn't seem like a guy you'd be friends with, but OK!" Hello, guys, BB is friends with Charles Barkley and Jon Bon Jovi. I don't think anyone believes (or should believe) BB only likes stuffy, humorless people. We all know better by now.

Marvin Lewis has an unstable personality, so yeah, anything can set him off.
