Once again get a couple of players who put up big stats, and the media gets stars in their eyes.
They had a very good reg season last year, then won nothing in the post-season, hardly what the 'best talent' will do.
Can we please allow teams to sustain success before the media annoints them?
Now, they are exposed as a team with a bad !B, awful secondary, and an OL that played well for a year, and now is playing poorly. Oh, and they have the worst WR corp in the NFL.

"Most talented team" has never been and never will be the team that has 3-4 guys that put up good numbers.

chargers are a classic case of believing too much in their own hype. They arent bad in talent but think too much of themselves and less of the opponents and chit chat a lot. And then they realize they are 1-3.

They "DO" have the talent....they just don't have the TEAM.

Thank you God for coach Belichick!:D

10 Words of why the talented chargers are 1-3

Norv Turner and the complete overhaul of a coaching staff

I do expect things to jell for them by mid season once the staff has had many weeks to improve but will it be too late for them to become an elite team again?

They have way too much talent to continue the putrid play and that secondary is getting lit up like crazy, that is a big reason as well.

Still think they will go 11-5 or 12-4 and win the west but we shall see what happens in the BIG game for them next week at Denver

Depends how you define talent.

To me, evaluating the talent of an NFL football team is primarily about the 6-8 'worst starters' and first 6-8 guys off the bench.

The team that is the best in those areas will win most of the time.

In other words, winning isn't about the best 3 guys on the field at any point in winning the game for you, its about how much the worst 3 hurt you, help you, or hold their own.

The greatest RB ever couldn't succeed if the line canb't block. The greatest QB ever will struggle if the OL cant block or the reicevers are bad (plus he will struggle if the RB stinks and no one care about your run game)

Same thing on D. If I have a great player on one said and a terrible one on the other side, my great players impact is taken away because the other guy gets picked on.

The Chargers, IMO, have a few guys that are among the best at their position, but the have a lot of weaknesses that have been exposed and keep that 'talent' they have from producing. Thats not a talented team in my opinion, its a 'media darling'.

Watch the 'experts'. Clayton is a great example. He will assess a team by naming 3 or 4 guys. "How can you stop LT? If you overcompensate for him, you cant cover Gates. Merriman can control an offense.
He will consistently do this, as if to say you could put 3-4 guys out there with High Schoolers, and they would dominate.

It is so far from true.

The Chargers are a stark mirror of the 2006 Patriots, gone bad. No ILBs, no WRs, and Rohan Davey at QB instead of Tom Brady, coached by **** Kotite instead of Bill Belichick, and GMed by Bobby Grier instead of Scott Pioli. What more could you want?

Steven Cooper = Monte Beisel

The Chargers are very soft up the middle, surprisingly so.

Line play demands the most coaching of all positions, IMO, especially O-line. The change in coaching is really showing through this year. it's the only thing that really changed for the Chargers. They gave us all we could handle last year, and now they suddenly have no talent?...I don't think so.

Chargers can blame their front office for this season's failure.

Two words .....

You have a point...to an extent. The Chargers do have some weaknesses which are mainly in their secondary. Their D-line & linebackers are great across the board. They are suspect at WR's, have a good O-line, great tight end & great running back. Of course the key to any offense is the QB and right now, PR is showing he is very inconsistent. If Rivers play turns around, the Chargers will be back in the saddle...if not, they are doomed.

Cam Cameron goes to Miami and suddenly Ronnie Brown looks like pre-2007 LDT more often than not. Coincidence?

Correct me if I am wrong. (And I apologize as well if so) But weren't you saying you expected the Patriots to go 12-4 as well in another thread?

Let me understand this:
You expect the Chargers to go 10-2 or 11-1 the rest of the way, and the Patriots to go 9-4?
Are you saying you think the Chargers are a better team than the Patriots?

*****Again, ignore if you were not the guy who predicted 12-4 for the Pats.

You know it could set an NFL record for Pro Bowl appearances by one team going from 7 players in last years pro bowl to 0 this year if things don't change

Tomlinson is not scaring anyone this year.

Exactly. If we switched coaching staff, ownership and front offices the day after the last SB, what do you think our respective records would be?

They "DO" have the talent....they just don't have the TEAM.

This may be the most insightful comment I've read in weeks!

EXCELLENT POINT!

I admit I was the guy who EARLY in preseason said 12-4 but That WAS a prediction based on the fact that the team was made up of a few players who came in and the team to me overall was not a sure fire bet that all players would come in and play as advertised.

I must admit I am surprised that almost all but Stallworth have played as advertised and that post was some time ago so things change as everything in life usually does.

Anyone can predict early and change thier opinion,Based on what has happened so far they should win 13 to 15 games but we shall see,Theres always the injury factor.

But like most on here they ARE going to lose at least 1 game,16-0 to me is not realistic, possible yes - Realistic no
If it was last years schedule we had instead of this years I think 16-0 would be much more a possibility,Indy,Dallas and Baltimore are the toughies we face down the road.

No problem, I meant the guy who last week predicted 12-4 in a 'undefeated' thread.

You really can't give someone a hard time for a prediction. It's all just a guessing game anyway...and who knows, the Pats still could go 12-4 with the injury factor and all.

I don't think I said that,If I did I must have been drinking at the time :eat3:,although like I said injuries to Brady can change things dramatically,Take NOTHING for granted as I learned in life numerous times in my 42 years here on earth.
