Alex Smith has a separated shoulder

you have a link saying it's separated?

From the AP recaps:
Matt Hasselbeck passed for 281 yards and two touchdowns, Bernard separated Smith's shoulder with a sack on the third play, and the Seahawks remained the best in the West with a 23-3 victory over the struggling 49ers on Sunday.

ya great logic.... where you're drafted determines your value... tell that to brady

CASSEL HAS NOT SHOWN ANYTHING IN THE NFL. SCHAUB HAD prior to being traded. Stop making a fool of yourself.

Second round picks haven't shown anything either. John Beck or Cassel ? You pick. Beck's college experience vs. Cassel with 4 years of NFL coaching behind Brady - it's a close call.

Alright everyone while Schaub certainly had mnor eopportunities to perform than Cassel he wasn't exactly setting the league on fire. I will agree that Cassel will not be worth close to a second rounder after this year, but going by his number Schaub wasn't worth a second rounder either.

Schaub started only two games with the falcons.

In the time he played for the Falcons, Schaub completed 84 of 161 pass attempts for 1033 yards. He had 6 touchdowns and 6 INTerceptions. He was sacked 12 times.

I think hype and college reputation had a lot more to do with Schaub's trade value. If you remember, he only had one start (the one against us) and he was already proclaimed a great option to trade for/sign as an exclusive rights free agent. Nobody is talking about Cassel. He barely played in college, there's almost no performance info on him.

Cassel (right now) isn't worth a second and by going only on his stats in Atlanta Schaub wasn't either.

Until you start 5 games, (or 100 in Brady's case), it does determine what your value is. What film is there out on Cassell for another team to study? Break out those High school VHSs from 1999.

I hope Alex Smith makes a full recovery next offseason.

FULL, I say, to clear my conscience.

But I want the Pats to have a nice high pick, both for obvious reasons and also to stick it everybody who rejoiced at the penalty.

Besides, until the injury the 9ers had good game luck this season.

Of course, I'm assuming having him sit will be bad for the team's short-term record ...

They have two wins, some bad opponents and a respectable defense, they'll win enough to not be TERRIBLE. Now, if they were 0-4 right now like they could be that would be different. We're looking at 8-8 best case for them I think.

I think SF is headed for disaster. I see 5-11 written all over this. My draft itch is starting early.

Could be but with a solid defense and what should be a solid running game they'll scrape out a few. Of course, every game will be losable the way they're looking right now and the lack of a passing game can quickly shut down a running game.

It still grinds me to the core that we had our #1 stolen but we could have a lot of value, by pick or trade, with this SF #1.

I dont wish injuries for any team. But i do wish losses for the 9ers.

as far as I'm concerned its 2 down and 7 to go. A nice 7-9 record will get the Pats a nice pick around 15 which is a good place to pick a good value like we did when we grabbed Ty Warren at 14

My surealistic moment.................

SF chokes on the tailpipe......goes 4-12.

Lotsa folks need QB's early. We grab McFadden.

Best (realistic) case for me is we're in the late top 10 (around 9 or 10) and trade it down for a low #1 and a #1 next year. Get the gravy train rolling again. Although if the right guy is there . . . Super Bowl winners rarely get a chance to get the first 6 years of a young stud.

Say it with me. James Laurinaitis.

The guy is going to have a cult following.

Technically we traded down to 14 and let Chicago jump us to grab god awful Michael Haynes i believe.

Right. We don't want SF to go 3-13 because Top-5 picks are curses, not blessings. If we get any better than #13, we should probably try to trade it for a #18 and a second pick.

they gave a 2nd rounder for matt schaub... i'd say chicago is depserate.

Cassell is not even worth a 6th rounder - He has shown NOTHING in the very few times he has played which was mostly garbage possessions...
Second rounder? - What are you smokin?

While I agree that a late top 10 is the most likely outcome, I believe we'll stay put and pick a true blue chipper. How many times does a team as deep as we are get a chance to pick this high?

I'd say its a blessing to have a top 10 pick and trade it for whatever pick you want lower in the first round PLUS something extra like a 3rd rounder or something.
