As a New Jersey resident, I feel ashamed. There are more Jets fans that are imbeciles than are found in the general population, by at least a 3:1 margin.

Who said that?
It's what I've been reading on this site. Right now on another thread it's being discussed as to when a memo banning it went out, and another this year reiterating the original memo of 06.

Wow, there are so many reasons to throw this one out. For one thing, he should be suing the Jets since his tickets are with them. He has no contract - implied or otherwise - with the Patriots, so how could their behavior be judged to be outside of acceptable? If a player's flagged for an offsides, does that give fans standing to sue because the action was against the rules of the game?

This guy's about to find out that the rules of football and the provisions of contract & tort law are very different, hopefully he gets slapped with sanctions - like attorneys fees, for this bullcrap. This reminds me of the guy suing god in Nebraska.
They shouldbe suing the NFL if anything, who then would turnaround and hit on the Pats if in fact they won the suit.

But they won't. For one thing, there wasn't any crime committed.

Ah, OK, I didn't know if you were confusing it with last year's banning from local TV cameras on sidelines, which there was also a thread about (I think I deleted it).

No, there was no memo banning it last year, the commissioner doesn't have the authority to impose new rules. It's been illegal for decades, there was a reminder last year about it, and after the Patriots were caught another one went out.

Sorry, but you are wrong. It has not been illegal for decades. Just like signal stealing is not illegal. NONE of it is ILLEGAL. Its against the rules and there is a difference. OH, and btw, there were no RULES against it for decades either.

Reminder, memo what ever pujo.I been reading MEMO/06.(which was never enforced, until 9/9/07) I can only go on the info thats available in general here and from radio, TV, and print I'm not going to wast my time looking up some obscure rule, when the general consensus is that it wasn't illegal until last year. And by the way while I'm thinking about it it wasn't Godell that was behind this it was the competition comm.

Ok, illegal in this context obviously means against the RULES. Obviously we didn't expect the FBI to take the cameraman away so I don't mean it's against the LAW.

Second, videotaping was illegal as far back as 2 decades ago, and coaches like Jimmy Johnson admitted they knew they were breaking the rules when the videotaped.

On signal stealing, you're correct, there's no rule against it to this day, but the issue here is videotaping.

You're not even making sense, you sound like the average Wal-Mart shopper right now.

General consensus doesn't matter, the only thing that matters is that it's been illegal for at least 20 years. It wouldn't even make sense since the commissioner can't create a new rule, by memo or otherwise. Competition comittee? Are you just taking swipes at everyone without any regard for how little sense it's making? Why don't we blame the Supreme Court next? The competition committee doesn't make rules either, they recommend them to the entire ownership.

I'll say this loud and clear: the only way to pass a new rule in the NFL is if 24 owners vote it in.

There was a time when I had respect for the Jets and their fans.....what a f$cking doo-baggie, Does he actually think the Pats need an advantage to beat this piss poor team.

He should sue the Jets fans. The only time they make any noise is when one of their star players gets injured.

F the Jets!

Is it me, or have RATS fans become more and more whiney as the season progresses? Just like their ratfink coach, don't look at the poor product the Mangina put on the field, he's great! Let's get the Pats because we envy everything New England. It must be hard for a bottom feeding fanbase that the RATS have, to want something we have, and they'll never get it.

Losing does that.

Just checked out Jetsinsider.net.

The NY fans are pretty embarrassed.

I LOVE this!

OK it was the supreme court i tell ya. they'er behind it. Its a vast conspiracy to destroy the Patriots.
I'm not taking swipes at anyone.
DaBruinz posted that it wasn't against the rules, I have more respect for his football knowlage than yours.
Now for the second swipe,I made a simple statement about what I have read. You came back at me like I insulted your mother,or some illegal aliens. I have to come to the conclusion that your TRYING to start an argument over nothing.I have better things to do. So go start a fight with somebody else. I'm sure Quigy is up for a good joust. Maybe if you ask he'll come out and play with you. ;)

Good, put Mangini on the stand and ask him about his time with the Patriots.

Ok, here we go:

2007 rule changes: http://www.giants.com/news/press_releases/story.asp?story_id=25050

2006 rule changes: http://nflexperts.scout.com/2/556118.html

2005 rule changes: http://patriots.scout.com/2/425806.html

2004 rule changes: http://football.about.com/od/nationalfootballleague/a/04rulechanges.htm

1994-2003 rule changes: http://www.jt-sw.com/football/pro/index.nsf/Documents/0-rules

That's as far back as I'm going, but clearly it's not a new rule in the last 13 years.

Geez, does anyone else think that Mangini regrets opening this can of worms?
